a little tip, if you accidentally touch the glass part of the lamp you can clean any fingerprints off with isopropyl alcohol and lint free cloth. the oil on your finger tips will create a hot spot on the bulb burning it out.
They should have the engineers who designed that headlight setup work at a dealership changing nothing but headlights for a month, I bet that system would get changed real quick!
You can change them from the fender well
My Ram 2018 (1500) has an access door built into the wheel lining. Something to check before a project start.
Hank, wish you would have showed us how to get that third lower headlight bolt out!
The headline assembly is probably one of the most expensive single components on the vehicle! And you broke it!😵💫
Should've used a Cresent wrench!
I hear ya!
Useful tip if you ever come across any of those push pins that are stuck take a rag and put some kind of silicone on it such as tire shine etc ..... that way you don't spray it all over your paint and cause other issues if you were to ever have it painted
O hank you broke the ram sorry buddy good to see you again see you soon buddy
Wow Hank, After seeing everything that you had to remove just to get to the bulb - I appreciate the simplicity of both of my Ford F-150s. With all of the deer running around, It’s really important to have good headlights. Usually where you see one deer - There’s two or three more close by waiting to jump out in front of you.
David price has it right the oil in the finger print will be a hot lines and the bulb will shatter when it is super hot. Old time bulbs didn't shatter, these new types are super hot.
Don't you just love engineers. I'm so glad I have a older truck. In less than 5 minutes to change bulbs. You did a great job a lot of people would have lost their cool.
I hear ya
Have you ever thought about getting after market lights? I have a 2021 Cummins and I have the XB LED headlights from off-road alliance and I love them. They’re a little pricey but they look damn good
It’s also flatbeded though with a weld rig. So I was dumping a ton of money into it anyway so I just went all the way
Hank how is Gena doing don't see her any more I hope she is doing great
She’s doing great. Thanks for asking!
Hank , did the same thing on my Ford and had to go from backside via the wheel well but still a pain. After that my son in law wanted the same lights and had the pain times two.
Enjoyed this video Hank. That was a lot of work to change the headlights. Your big truck made you look short. Lol.
Yep
Good ol bodyman tool hard to find but uber useful
Dang Hank you are getting so many subscribers don't forget us OG subscribers thats been with since the early days of Hamilton Ville farms. 😊❤
Never. Lol. I appreciate you 👍
That's how I learned to change my Tail light assembly in my Nissan Pathfinder watched youtube. Paid $450 once and got the assembly online for $90 and did it myself next may be the headlights.
It’s a job changing headlights on a new ram
My 2009 is a lot easier to do
Thanks for sharing the video 👍
Have a good one
I hear ya
Since the old ones still work, I would wrap in some t paper and place in the glove box (if new trucks still have them) for a spare Hank. Your always out doing someone a favor as your one very kind god fearing man. I'm a watching you right close on the skid logger as its a good old lady who has run afoul of time and hard work. I really do like the old stuff as it was so much easier than computer for guys like you and me who are "computer challenged" Keep smiling as it ruins a haters day!
I did that actually! Good call👍
Love the videos Hank. My 2021 Ram 2500 has an access cover on the wheel well to change the headlights. It took me about 15 minutes for both. Does your not have it?
My neck hurts just watching you change a headlight.
I try to use the Kelvin scale for lights. 5000-6000 is the white I like. (Usually HID) After that everything else looks weak.
Hi hank from west Alabama love ya
What a pain in the keester just to change a bulb. Take it to the shop/ dealer, and that bulbs are now 250 bucks lol. Thanks for showing us.
I hear ya
@@HamiltonvilleFarm I've got a 2020 2500 with a brush guard, can't imagine having to take all that off lol. Thanks for the reply and all the best!
It would be helpful if you mentioned the year and make of the vehicle. Your presentation of information is quite good. Take care -
2019 ram 2500 gasser.
It's very, very, very frustrating anymore to replace a simple bulb in a vehicle anymore. No matter what manufacturer, it seems like you have to almost disassemble half the front end or rear end of a vehicle to even be able to see a simple bulb. My daughter had a Suziki suv that required removing the entire grill and bumper cover to replace the headlights. I had a mid to late 90's Olds Cutlass Ciera that required removing the grill to to get to the turn signs. I can't wait to get my 85 Ford truck back on the road. Everything is soooo easy to get to on it. My Ford has enough room to sit in the engine compartment to work on it, and with having a straight six, 300, it's got even more room than the V8's
Yep!
Good job and God bless yall
Nice video
Mmm ford superduty not bad at all. 4 screws on top. Put the top of the grill out about an inch. Then long screwdriver to reach the five bottom tabs. Just push them in a bit and they pop out. The grill comes out in one piece.
Hey Hank. Remember when a headlight change only involved two or three screws and change the whole light? Two minutes at the most. Progress?🤣
I know right!
That’s ridiculous to have to do all that work to change a headlight bulb! I know there are some advantages with the new versus old vehicles like fuel injection, diesel power pickups, etc. but the older I get the more disdain I have for newer vehicles from the prices of them to the difficulty in working on them. Makes me appreciate my 1966 f250 with a 300 six cylinder four speed. I can literally sit on the inner fender apron and work on the engine of course the truck has been in the family since 1970.
Did you change those bulbs without a cressant wrench ???
😂
Excellent video Hank :) also Sylvania excellent bulbs products & if want know in Walmart in Auto service section sell to also excellent prices and quality too if want know ! Plus some vechile can be hard change certain parts and found that in my Auto Mechanics and Body Restoration job I do for job for past 29 years ! Also you need Fork Tool take plugs out Hank and save from breaking them need keep one machinery shed in tool chest on hand come handy and hope see for miles to with new headlights at night driveing of repairs to anything! Also always smart thing Hank do every light change in 2 same time and save from blow out second bulbs 💡!
So just asking isn't there a door in your fenderwell just ahead of the tire . This is how I change headlights in my ram 3500 .
Didn’t notice one…maybe
I don’t think the 1500 /2500 have the access door
It's the body oils in ya fingerprint that causes those bulbs to fail. Gee what a mission to change a bulb I am lucky enough to be able to change mine from behind the light fixture under the what we call the bonnet (hood). Nothing to remove other than the dust cover. I guess the newer the vehicle the more difficult things are for the average owner. Made for good viewing though. Safe travels
You gotta disassemble half the car these days just to get to anything. As always…good video Hank! 👍
Hey Hank I definitely recommend you get some led bulbs for your truck, super bright and last for long time
Right on
You may be doing the head lights again , most of the high power head light bulbs have a shorter life span than the stock bulbs , in case you didnt know . The shorter life span bulbs can get you killed on a bike , in the dark , when the light goes out ......
Good job BFF!
👍
Your gonna be spotin the moon if you keep breaking clips and mount bolts !
What a palaver Hank. OK maybe acceptable with xenon or led, but halogens burn out too often for all that to be necessary.
Hank that was a pretty short will it start video! 😁
you helped me narrow the field too. I’m looking at new trucks and Dodge is gone! No way I’m having a truck I have to Disassemble to do some basic maintenance on.
I really do like the truck and this was an optional upgrade. But it was definitely a pain in the rear. So if you’re happy with the stock lights, then I’d still consider the Ram. But there are a lot of good choices out there. 👍
Ick, way too many bolts for my liking for just headlight housings. That's one thing I loved about my old 2004 Silverado. The entire grille section was held on with tight fitting, steel friction fit clips and just came undone with a slight tug. The headlight assembly was held on to the inside with a big plastic bracket which was bolted into place. The headlight pods then slid into place on the bracket with some prongs at the bottom that caught a lip. After that all you had to do was tilt it back and slide in a retaining pin. It was so simple not even an adjustable was needed. Though I will say that the screws that held on the rear light housings sucked as they were just junky philips screws. I had to drill them out at one point as they were rusted into place and a screw just kept slipping out. At least your Dodge has some real screws for the back lights. :)
👍👍
All that is not necessary there is a accessible way in the inner fender well its a service port to change headlight bulb
Wooow Hank.
👍😂😎
Fyi you're rear window decal works :)
Right on!
I hit a deer with my wife's 2019 RAM 1500 4x4.................$6,000 damage to the front left corner. Just replacing the LED lighting assembly took the mechanic one whole day, and that did not include all of the other damage (which took 7 days). There is NOTHING easy to work on, on the 5th generation RAM's.
That happened on my Ram , I changed the bulb next day it went out. I found out that there was a circuit board behind that light fixture it went bad, put a new one in and problem solved.
I had a 2014 Nissan Sentra and changing the headlights was just about as difficult. I sure miss the days of sealed beams. They really want to make it as difficult as possible on us....lol. Good job Hank! 😎🔧
Omg my girlfriend had an Altima and I had to about take out the entire trunk liner to get to the fuckin bulbs.
I've used those before, and they only last about a year, so you will be doing it again!😂
Hope not! Lol
😂
You did it the hard way lol took me 30 min for both without taking grill off, there's an access cover in fender well and the 10mm bolt and headlight assy slide out
Why not led ? They last along time mines been in 4 years and only had to replace 1 tag light bulb.
Yeah I probably do that later. Maybe.
Get yourself a CHILTON MANUAL for you're truck or car! That way you won't end up with BROKEN PART'S.
I had a Mazda pickup and had to take the whole grill etc off to change a head light LOL
I miss glass headlights on vehicles. Everything today is just plastic junk.
👍
👍👍
I got a warning from the Indiana state police last week for not using a turn signal but I did use my signal and it does work I thought at the time maybe the bulb was out but when I got home there’s nothing wrong with it
Love that dodge
Been good so far!
👍👍👍 brother
You forgot to add blinker fluid
I think I prefer the old trucks they never die. These new ones have way to much cheap ass plastic for me. 1978 was a great year for Ford trucks !
Yep
It is utterly absurd that auto makers design vehicles such that even the simplest of routine maintenance is ridiculously hard to accomplish.
Yep
Is that a combination lock I see??
😂
The oil from your finger's will make the bulb burnout
Wheres Willley?
As a dodge tech you do not have to pull the whole front end off to replace the headlight bulb
That's what college creates, a bunch of engineer designers that got their head so far up their ass they can't design anything right. Thumbs up for college everybody!
Hey Hank Hammilton ain't my first
time to the channel not likely this line is from White line Fever Instead of Hamiltonville farm that, you should have, a Trucking company called Hamiltonville farm Trucking company that, would be Awsome Hank and,Gina Hamilton
👍
Are they made in transylvania? 😆🤣😂
SMH . . . That's ridiculous. I'll keep my 2005 F-150.
If you touch the glass on the bulb the bulb will burn out faster because of the oil in your hands
It causes the bulb to get too hot
I have a Dodge and YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMOVE THE FRONT END TO CHANGE THE BULB
pretty sure if that was a chev you need to pull the engine or so other crazy thing to change those lol have you seen watch wes work 10 mil ratchet wrench he lost his God bless
Lol
It has been a long time since you done some body work
😂
Did you sale the 310 or pay someone to hide it from you !!! Had to ask ! I’d sure like to use it for a month ! Your just too far away to back it here !
Lol. It’s still beside my tree.
wth hell u did not use a cressent wrench to fix the lights lol
Lol
Chevy cars been that way for years
😍👍
What a terrible design where you have to dismantle half the truck to replace a globe.
Knock on wood I’ve never replaced any light or bulb on my 2009 Tundra… so it’s obvious
Lol i mean, 🤫 it is a dodge. 😉
just kidding..... it happend man i brake stuff all the time just by thinking about working on my trucks it seams like
Lol
What a pain in the ass.. having 2 different lights..
Yep
Is it not ridiculous how much them fake chrome plastic pieces cost anymore.and like you said god forbid you try it in cold weather cause youll bust it up for certain and it could be a piece important to holding the other plastic parts.i miss when all trim was real stainless steel or chrome even if dented you could just pound it out.try that with todays junk!!now youll have them brite whites blinding me,even on low so dont be shocked when i turn on my bull bar light bar to return the favor.just kidding i wouldnt be that rude.!!!!!snookie pa.
👍
Them headlight bulbs are actually junk
That's what u get with a modern vehicle so bloody annoying how much u have to remove to do a simple job give me a 1979 1.3 escort for working on any day bloody modern shit 🤬😠
❤❤❤👏👏
Lol it’s a dodge
👍👍👍👌
👍👍
Should have bought a Chevy
He wanted something reliable
what a hilariously dumb design
Yep
