THE TRADEWINDS - Not A Blade of Grass

- There is no doubt in the pride of being a West Indian in such Tradewinds classics as "Caribbean Man", "Boyhood Days", "Where Are Your Heroes" and "We Are The Champions". Other compositions such as "Cricket in the Jungle", "Civilization" and "Copycats" make you step back and reflect on the Caribbean way of approaching life, at home and abroad. Other very popular songs, written by Martins, include "Mr. Rooster", "Wong Ping", "You Can't Get", "Not A Blade of grass" and the 1997 release "Gie Dem Shiv" which is a tribute to Guyanese-born West Indian Cricket star Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
RIP Dave Martins. A staple of any West Indian household growing up. What a loss 🙏🏾

Still applies today, which is sad because it could lead to war, which noone wants, its very sad.
With what’s going on now with Venezuela this song is so appropriate.

Love this song ❤🙏🏻🇬🇾🇬🇾
Beautiful song 🇬🇾❤️
We are a peaceful people
Struggle as we struggle
And we don't look for trouble
Just ask around
But when outside faces
From foreign places
Talk about taking over
We ain't backing down
We ain't giving up no mountains
We ain't giving up no tree
We ain't giving up no river
That belongs to we
Not one blue saki,
Not one rice grain,
Not one kuras,
Not a blade of grass
This land is all I know
We're going to make it somehow
We will bend like a bow
But never break
Our fathers came here
And they lived and died here
And we ain't moving nowhere
Make no mistake
‘cause we ain't giving up no mountains
We ain't giving up no tree
We ain't giving up no river
That belongs to we
Not one blue saki,
Not one rice grain,
Not one kuras,
Not a blade of grass
We love the open country
Of the…
We are a peaceful people, struggling we struggle
this is what all Guyanese r proudly saying across the world "Not A BLADE A GRASS!!!
We not giving up a blade a grass, we can goto war for it. The U.S.A and the whole Caribbean got our backs, bring it.
Not a blade of grassss ❤❤❤
It's like when this song was written and sang they knew what Guyana would have to face
This song was made in the 70 when Venezuela was claiming essequibo. This is not their first attempt

Dave Martins and tradewinds are very creative musicians, in the year 2923 it’s too disastrous to see this being a help against Venezuela.
He was a carpenter a fisherman a teacher a king.Your musings have not fallen on deaf ears with Canada trying to shake off the monarchy.Peter Carlos Hinds.

For everyone claiming Essequibo.....Running up to 1899 Venezuela was fighting to keep the Orinoco river. They accepted the decision because they got what they wanted which was robbing the British empire of more land than Venezuela deserved. Yes go ahead and nullify the 1899 court decision and return to the original dispute. Return the entire Orinoco region to us including Guayana city... we all know it belongs to us.
That would be justice for the sovereignty of Guyana.
Jajajajaja that drug you consume is very strong friend hahahaha
Fort Kyk-Over-Al was a Dutch fort in the colony of Essequibo, in what is now Guyana. It was constructed in 1616 at the intersection of the Essequibo, Cuyuni and Mazaruni rivers. It once served as the centre for the Dutch administration of the county,
Britain acquired Essequibo from the Dutch... learn your history and get over it ... is we own. Venezuela won the case in 1899 and got the whole region of the Orinoco. Is wah more dem want?
💯
Not a blade of grass
What you sow you reap.Peter Carlos Hinds.
not a bloody blade a grass!!! SKN must not lose it's land to wicked foreigners!!!
ESSEQUIBO BELONGS TO GUYANA 🇬🇾
If Venezuela wants to have good relations with Guyana, it must recognize and accept the Paris arbitration award of 1899 that currently defines the border between the two countries and respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Guyanese state. ✊
Falso, Venezuela no tuvo representación propia en el Laudo, y ese territorio se lo repartió Inglaterra como expansionista, mientras Venezuela luchaba por su independencia.
Where can I get this cd? Can't find it on eBay. Fantastic band , really tight sound. Would love to hear a dub mix of some of these tracks !
if some 1 get this cd hit me up 1 love,,,,,
Rip
these boys are good they will bring down the merrymen
its unique how venzeula and guyana are south american countries but are also reconized as caribbean countries as well. venezuela is more tied to the spanish speaking caribbean (puerto rico, the dominican republic, cuba) and guyana is more tied to the english speaking caribbean (jamaica, trinidad and tobago, barbados etc.) however the simularites end there. essequibo belongs to guyana not venezeula. the spanish never ran it. it was the dutch and then the english who ran it. my friends dad is from essequibo but will never call himself venezuelan. not tryna start beef cuz i have venezuelan friends but essequibo belongs to (us) guyana. saying essequibo is venezuelan? lets call trinidad and tobago, aruba, and caracao is venezuelan while we're at it too (sarcasm intended)
They're consider "Caribbean countries" due to their relation of cultures which links them despite their respective geographic location. Similar to why Brazilians aren't consider Latinos, even though their language Portuguese has its roots in Latin which denotes a Latino.
Raoul Simon i agree with u except for the brazilian part. they are still Latino. and is still culturally apaprt of Latin America. they are just not Hispanic bcuz they dont speak Spanish.
Sorry I should have said Americans don't consider them Latinos. Generally when they speak of a Latino its thought of someone who solely speaks Spanish. I have some Brazilian friends who would say they are in fact Latino.
Guy! I respect your point of view; however, I lived for 18 years in Caracas, Venezuela, and I want to let you know something: IS NOT an issue there! I mean, in Venezuela everyone knows the Essequibo is no Venezuela anymore (If it ever was). But no president wants to step on history as the president who "gave up", that is the reason this case is going on still. You´re right! there isn´t presence of Venezuela there! people speak english, they sing the Guyana´s anthem and respect the "Golden Arrow Head", you know! It is Guyana! and everyone knows it...
LuisinMenG well in that case sir, i respect your opinion. but trust me man, there are some Venezuelans who WONT FOR THE LIFE OF THEM, let go of the Essequibo issue
Haha venezula must come when it ready let it get buss rass......translate that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahahahaha yesss bro
