- Richie Havens plays 'Freedom - Motherless Child' at the Bethel Woods Center on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, in Bethel, N.Y., days before a festival commemorating the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. Havens was the opening act at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Video by Ted Shaffrey.
What a crying shame there wasn’t more people there to see this man perform. He played with the same passion as he did at Woodstock in front of 450,000 people as his did for these few. A true performer and artist .... and MAN. I THANK you Sir for all the beautiful music you made and that you gave us.
Agree. 100%.
yes, a statement, he doesn't show disappointment or anger at all, if he felt it, he knows where to put it, how to let it smelt, and play~~~~ maybe with special love for the ones present.
Thank You Sir!
He actually aged really well
Thank you Richie, i feel like we are all fools, just sitting around, and we often don't realize the magic moments of our lifes
Such a pure and gentle soul. This made me cry.
This peacefull man was an american guru. I learned so much from him and his life n vision. Blessings 📿☝️
And now you are free ❤ Rest in ✌
what a gentle yet powerful soul he was...Rest in freedom, Mr. Havens.
the man who never cuts his strings///////ha ha ha ha love this dude.
Amazing. Up there with his Woodstock performance. Richie......you are a one off....God bless you.
Thank you Richie Havens this song is what pulled me out of it
It's a goddamn crime that those seats aren't filled. This man is a living legend. What a beautiful soul.
It's a different world now. We have so much technology. Who needs to go to "live" venues today when we can sit at home and watch everything on our electronics. Yes, it's a different world, but not necessarily a better one...
I was there on the 15th I didn't know he was there the day before . This man was underrated . I was there few years later at his memorial service. yes a very nice man
He played a festival here in Seattle around the same time, we made up for any empty seats. Folks were climbing trees to see over the festival seating at the Seattle Center.
I witnessed him at concert. Holy god,I cried so hard my face hurt .incredible,..that wouldn't do him justice
heart and soul of MUSIC.REAL STUFF
I watched the Woodstock VHS in the scariest place. And this song stayed with me as a positive experience. I felt I could have freedom. I felt that I could live free from vice.. I'll never be free from vice. Not of my own steam. It would take more than my own steam to be free from vice
I hope u r okay. Please listen to his other song. The Well. It cleanses. Ur. Soul . Blessings.
Matt~
if you were able, to allow this Beautiful Man’s Soul, save you from your personal nightmare and transport you ( your soul ) to a place where, ‘you’ believed you could be free,
That is Real
It is The Truth
Seek it🌚🕊
A child's cry goes unnoticed.
So sedate... I would be kicking my chair over and grooving to this!

Music and Man--Aged like a Fine Wine.

Aloha🌺
This is the first guitar I've ever seen with 2 pick guards.
He killed that joint bro. Awesome
I saw and enjoyed so much being 10 feet away when he played the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Had to have been 20 years ago. Saw Doc Watson and Dr John same day I think. Fantastic. that festival was much more wide open and less outsiders back then but I do see why people travel around the world to see it.
Beautiful. Thank you. I Love him. I agree with you all other than Detective Oso who sounds like a......Never mind.!
Beautiful voice n Passion 😁😁😁😁
Saw him play in Dublin many moons ago, what a privilege.
Amazing song.
if only Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix had lived to be there too
Thank you Richie for holding the fort down at Woodstock with your Freedom music.
I went to the 40th anniversary with my brother, who went with me to Woodstock in 69 and brought my son and his friend, It was wild but this was much earlier on Friday than when we got there
