The mayor is the only sane person in our city government. The board of supervisors is full of insane old hippies.
Breed is right. Violent crime is way down and far below the national average. What we have a problem with is petty crime mostly targeting tourists. Yes, it's a problem, especially for such a touristy city. She's been trying various strategies for a couple of years now. The Board has blocked literally everything so far.
But don't worry, at the very next election we're getting rid of all of these clowns. This is the end of the road for the crazy Board.

And now that Whole Foods (Market and 8th) has finally closed because of the looting, the hoard is all over the Tenderloin, at the moment, instead of down on Market near their former hot spot.
So, I can hear London's tone deaf attitude especially well. So many things could be done. How about forcing the 24 hour (in)convenience stores and donut shops and the rest to close at 10 p.m.? How about unmarked police cars patrolling the neighborhood to catch these moronic muscle car drivers stunting all day long? How about taking everything the dealers have every single day until they leave... if the city won't prosecute them? How about bringing back the penal colony? How about real restrictions for receiving any kind of welfare, and having it docked to pay fines? How about deporting anyone living on the street who is from out of state... or demanding their home state pay for their stay?

Hard to change the perception, when it's based on reality. I felt so bad for a customer of mine He was a tourist from Brazil and had 3 rental car windows smashed during his 5-day stay. on a different occasion, we had almost every customer in our parking hit with smash and grabs in a 5-10 minute window. Meanwhile, my rent is high, My insurance is insane, and out of the 5 break-ins I had the cops did nothing. Even when we could locate unique goods of ours being sold by people matching the video footage of the break in the cops didn't want to do anything because they were hawking the goods in Berkely.
