    I’m under 140lbs. , and I have been doing this since the Goldwing hit the dealership in 1975. Technique is paramount. Lately with my aging body I have added a piece of 1”x board under front wheel, which truly makes it 50% easier. Teaching others is rewarding. ✌️

    I really hope you find this comment as it is filled with an enormous amount of gratitude! I have literally watched and attempted around 5-6 videos trying various techniques to no avail. I actually finally gave up and came inside and decided I was done for tonight. Then I watched two of your videos and after this one I decided I might as well try one more time... Maybe its obvious to most but I had no idea how the lifting up was meant to work as leverage with the foot pushing down...and being a shorter lighter weight female trying other techniques that never explained this, I was beginning to think the bike was going to get the best of me.
    Needless to say I went out and tried your technique and finally conquered the center stand... ! It actually worked so well I was able to do it multiple times in a row no problem...
    Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it so thoroughly and simply. You are an excellent teacher!

    Thanks for helping those of us who need it!
    I just installed a center stand on my 2016 Honda CTX700D, a lightweight at only 518 pounds. I was only able to get the bike on the stand one time after numerous attempts, and even pulling a muscle. Your technique is something I will be trying. I'm a noobie rider so I don't have much experience.
    The only reason I can come up with for why the board method works is that it reduces the distance the bike has to rise to get on the stand, due to the thickness of the board. I bet most others got it right away, but I didn't. Duh. So using a 1" board instead of a 3/4" board should make it even easier. There is a comment below in this regard.
    I'm 72, and just got my license in March. I'm in good shape - but not strong like bull.

    Hi. 70 years old, 2 spinal operations, 6'2" and 208 lbs.
    On smooth level ground it's easy to put my 2019 Goldwing tour on the centre stand. However, if one wheel is in even a slight dip, it becomes exponentially harder. My garage floor is uneven so to save my back I use the wood block method. It almost climbs up on it's own!
    A good video, thanks.

    I'm not able to put my Bandit 1200 on center stand without help, I have been using this stand on smaller motorcycles effortlessly. I was also thinking of putting board under wheels. This video taught that instead of both wheels I need to put under rear wheel only. Can suspension setup different from stock settings will need change in technique too?

    • @californiahikebike
      @californiahikebike  3 года назад +1

      Glad the board technique helped. Basically any optional setting that lifts your bike higher makes it easier to roll up onto the center stand.

  • @macmccune21
    @macmccune21 3 месяца назад +1

    The board technique seems to highlight if the center stand was a half inch shorter it would be much easier. There would still be clearance under the rear wheel as well.

      Thanks for stopping by and glad to help! My suggestion would be to ride both bikes (Or any others you are interested in) and base it on feel rather than which one is easier to roll onto the center stand. I've ridden both and my preference is the torque and sportiness of the Beemer. But I ride 2 up a lot and that factors in as well.

    • @jimmyt55
      @jimmyt55 8 месяцев назад

      Beemer is a taller machine… at 5’4”, just couldn’t get comfortable, so my Goldwing will be my last bike, bound to outlast me (I am 69 years old)

Had my 1200 Goldwing nearly 3 years and i still struggle to get it off the centrestand while on the bike? Once in a while it goes real easy but i can never pinpoint what i did different...A film on this would be really good.

      Easy there hoss. I made this video as a direct request from folks in a forum. Feel free to read some of the comments below. Some shorter guys were blaming the difficulty on their height. Can you center stand your bike on gravel, not a hard surface?

    • @californiahikebike
      @californiahikebike  3 года назад

      I've done it before depending on the size of the gravel. I did it on pea gravel before wiping away the gravel to settle it on the harder surface below. I don't think I would try on larger gravel as there is not a sure "footing" to keep it steady as you roll up onto the stand. For instance as you start to roll up one leg slips off a larger piece of gravel and tilts the bike away from you.....resulting in pucker factor. Not sure I would do it in most circumstances on gravel.

    • @reddog8145
      @reddog8145 Год назад

      Ooooh no don’t try this on gravel unless you want to practice picking up your bike. You need a hard surface for the centre stand

  • @reddog8145
    @reddog8145 Год назад +1

    Getting off the centre stand I stand on the left, make sure the side stand is down, take hold of the handle bars as you do when riding, left hand left grip , right hand right grip , front wheel pointing forward and push. As the bike drops off the stand I squeeze the front brake. The bike naturally leans slightly towards you and once off the stand you can gently put it on the side stand. I only do this on level ground, not on anything facing down hill. It’s the method thought on advance and police motorcycle courses. It’s better than sitting on the bike rocking like a demented badger. But otherwise good vid on technique

    • @reddog8145
      @reddog8145 Год назад

      @@californiahikebike Well my demented badger, I’m 5’8 & 95kg, which I’m trying to reduce, weight not height that is. Your quite right about needing good boots though trainers are a no no. I put my bike on the centre stand in my garage after every ride, mainly to enable me to check the oil, so your advice is spot on about getting it onto the stand. By the way lots or people who review the bike say you can’t get a full face helmet into the panniers ( saddle bags ). I have a size 56 Schuberth and have no problem. If you put the helmet on it’s side, visa facing towards the front of the bike and the bottom of the helmet facing back towards you, you can fit the helmet in no problem, also still leaves room for some other bits you might want to store.

    Its easier to put the Gold Wing on its centerstand if you're wearing proper footwear when riding a motorcycle..low top sneakers are too soft and flex into your foot from the load...yea, you can do it with sneakers but not as well as with boots on your feet.

    • @californiahikebike
      @californiahikebike  3 года назад +2

      I asked Eric about that because I agree. He said the Sketchers he is wearing has a fairly robust, firm sole. For me, it's uncomfortable even in hiking boots so it's always riding boots.
