There was an emphasis on poetry and crooning. Chivalric romance was looked at as an art form. It doesn’t have to do with men without means hoping to seduce women. Even kings engaged in this type of romance through romantic poetry to implore women of the court to having sex with them. It’s about the art of seduction rather that survivalism in a dating market. Romance and survivalism aren’t the same in my opinion. Now, I can agree that romance is being used presently for a scheme to survive or to deceive unwitting women, but that’s not it’s origin. It doesn’t have to do with desireless men. This is why Disney movies are set in a medieval setting and invoke medieval romance.
“Kings” engaged in that for selfish reasons. To get the woman pregnant in hopes that she would have a son to take his spot as king. Also known as “legacy”. Which doesn’t exist for the majority of people anymore. It’s all about perspective but I’m not gonna sit here and act like queens and princesses were truly “loved”. They were part of the plan.

i asked my Uncle what was his mistake... He said marrying Clara. He finally free from her. She died a few years ago. He is not thinking about being with women anymore. 60 years of marriage was enough for him. They didn't have sex since after his youngest son was born. She always slept on the sofa and he always slept in the guest bedroom. And that bed in the master bedroom got spider web on it.
