      Thanks, Matt. It's a fast growing species for sure. Even in a pot!

    Great species to work with, great colours in spring, summer and autumn. Thickens up well and grows fast. Yours is looking fantastic, very natural. Good to see Cooper as well.

      The colours are fantastic, aren't they? I only bought this as someone on a radio gardening show talked about it as a favourite tree and made it sound interesting. I'm so glad I did. Cooper seems less camera shy atm. Maybe he's gotten used to it. Or just given up!

    Hi Sid, I’m with you 100% on producing trees that you like and not what someone thinks is correct. Great looking tree and very natural.

    You've done an amazing amount of development on this Parrotia in only 3 years Sid! This tree really reminds me of a tree growing in a ravine. Erosion exposes some wonderful windy roots, and the branches sweep out reaching for the light. Oh, I can't wait for the leaves to break!

      The same Sue. The new leaves come out pink at first. It's done all its development In a pot too. Imagine if I'd had room to grow it in the ground!

    The tree has come on well Sid over the years it’s been in the training pot a nice trunk, I agree I like trees to look natural. Today I repotted my Irish Yew I am a long way behind you with repotting the trees this year as it has been too cold for me, I feel the cold now I am in my 82nd year but I keep going looking forward to some warm weather. It’s great to see the buds swelling and in some trees the leaves are popping out. All the best to you and Cooper keeping you company.

      Thanks, Joe. I'm looking forward to some warmer weather myself. So is Cooper. It's cold here today, so we're staying in. He is sleeping on my lap as I type this, snoring up a storm!!
      Keep well.

    A belting tree mate! I agree wholeheartedly with your view on bonsai conventions. I like to help trees to be the shape they seem to want to be.

      They do seem to have a preferred shape don't they? All you can do is let it out. Don't try to fight it it

    I remember watching the first video that featured this tree. It's quite amazing the growth that it has put on during that time. The roots are great, very natural and something that you would find in any wooded area. As for the rules, only nature can make the rules, human intervention can and does in many cases enhance the aesthetics of a tree, but it's nature that made and designed it in it's rawest state. Rules are there to be broken, as they say, so if it suits the owner, actually the keeper, who is to say it's right or wrong. Great video Sid. Take care mate.

    This tree may not be a classical bonsai style and the roots may not be classic nebari, but I think it works. Great looking tree! Really looks like something you would see on a walk through the woods, especially growing on a streambank. Great work!

    I’m just curious why you didn’t remove all the old soil. Won’t the rootball retain moisture at a different rate from the new substrate? Thanks

    • @SidsTrees
      @SidsTrees  7 месяцев назад +1

      The new mix is almost identical to the old (minus 3 yrs of dirt dust etc) as it's the same recipe. I've never noticed it being a problem with other trees. Most trees I've killed in the last 30vyrs have been through overworking them!
