IF YOU DON'T WANNA GO THROUGH THE HELL OF MAKING THEM FROM SCRATCH LISTEN UP 1. Get biscuit dough (Pillsbury worked best for me) 2. Cut each circle into quarters 3. Fry in flavorless oil (canola is best) 4. Take out AS SOON as they turn golden brown 5. Top with honey and powdered sugar 6. Enjoy!
I recommend cottonseed oil over all for them (reason why is because cottonseed doesn’t burn the dough as fast, that’s just my opinion and what we used when working at cafe du Monde
@@littleremyfoodtry to not drop it, of course the oil will splatter (real) or you can use a hazmat when frying so you won't get splattered by oil (lol, but it's real too)
Visually, it reminded me of a dish that is condisdered traditional in my country. It's called "Baursak". It's made in a special way, and when you fry them, they fill with air, and look like fluffy pillows. They're nice and salty, with nothing on the inside. We would buy, like, 2kg of them when I was younger and eat them with everything 😂
We use an old family recipe for our beignets where you make the dough the night before and let it rise over night in the fridge. The box style doesn’t make the beignets fluffy or soft enough but an overnight rise with a yeast dough tastes JUST as good or better than cafe du monde.
as someone from Louisiana who loves our food SO MUCH I wish we had so much more attention! Our Cajun french culture should be shared with the world!Just dont recreate it or mess it up.Like gumbo, the original recipe is perfect so i wouldnt like if anyone adds anything! If they want they can though.
@AlyviaLangley127 omg I would love to share our specialty with the rest of the world. But most of us is seafood which shouldn't been eaten inland (for safety) or just not available or the same outside the southern states. I lived in Florida for a bit, and you couldn't buy redbeans. It was crazy!
@littleremyfood trust me it's worth it. If you want the best experience down here come during Marti Gras but don't go to the big parades find a side parade and you'll probably have fun.
Cafe du monde (a famous New Orleans cafe) sells a batter mix in stores in Louisiana, you can try looking up their recipe or ordering some for yourself if you find the box mix online
So I looked it up and theres some being sold on Walmarts website. I live in Louisiana so I’m not sure if it’s available to be shipped out of state though

thiisss relates so hard! frying is the absolute worst, I will have to one day try and conquer fried chicken again, but these weren't too bad. My husband had to coax me into adding more oil, and reassured me everything would be fine. It was ok 😅
they're so fluffy, because they create a hole in the center. The donuts are coated in LOTS of powder sugar, and when warm they're perfect. I think it depends what sauce you use with them. Chocolate and caramel sauces are my favorite
If you ever get the chance to go to New Orleans, go to Cafe Du Monde in person and grab them, they’re wonderful. One of the shops (I think it’s in a park but I can’t remember off the top of my head) actually has a window for you to see how they’re made when you’re in line. One of my earliest memories was actually looking into the windows to see the people there take a portion of dough and just huck them into the oil. Anyways, again, highly recommend going in person, there’s a special magic in being there and seeing it made.
I made these from scratch exactly how tiana made it and they came out SOOOOOO DELICIOUS!!!🤌🏼🤌🏼I dont even have experience in baking lol I just felt like making them

The trick when deep frying is to make sure you’re not afraid of the oil. It can sense fear and weakness, and will respond accordingly
That makes sense. I definitely react. I've had far too many burns in my lifetime unfortunately
