You could get even higher amperage with two secondarys in parallel with one turn each and then wire those in parallel. It would lower the voltage, but with the thickness of that cable, I don't think you would loose to much more to heat.
People should know about the high voltage capacitor that should be discharged before randomly cutting wires. Even after it's been unplugged awhile, it can still kill you. Be safe.
chachavessel True but I would never assume that... Resistors burn out sometimes and I wouldn't recommend anyone risk their life on an assumption of competency of the manufacturer.
Awesome fabrication work, well done. I have an old school spot welder from the 50's, it's an amazing machine, my son has a new one and it's already fried. This spot welder in the video is very similar to the old one I have. They work incredibly well, just don't over do it, allow time for them to cool or they will fry. Thanks for sharing that video, really well done.
Love these videos, make your own spot welder all you need is a mig welder, a lathe, a grinder, a plasma cutter power drill, power driver, pillar drill, drill bits, taps, a metal nibbler access to a metal store and your away.
Reading through some of the comments on the "DIY" bit. Ok so maybe not so DIY, you need a few (very nice tools btw) to build this. But SERIOUSLY your fabrication skills are just fantastic - not to mention those awesome welds! Keen to see more of your projects. Keep up the good work!
I just like learning how other people address the same kinds of challenges in their projects, as I do in mine. No matter what you're building, you've got parts that move and parts that don't. They all have to fasten, slide, hinge, rotate etc, with respect to each other. One guy's spot welder could be another guy's banana straightener. They could share the same hinge or seal or cooling scheme design. Thanks - Lumpy
thats bad ass!!-dude idk why ur channel doesnt have over 100k by now.. always look fwd to seeing ur vids.and theyre always awesome!! shared it on f.b. and g+
+fuckin kazars Sorry that this video was unable to hand you a welder with no effort, intellect or tooling required. Fabrication is on the most basic level making the tools to make the tools to make the part.
+fuckin kazars This project isn't for you. It's for normal people that can figure it out. This is just how he did it. The wiring is the only necessary part, make the rest out of wood. If you need someone to hold your hand and explain how to do things differently, them you don't need a spot welder. You wouldn't know what to use it for.
+Viru Sinstall technically speaking, a spot welder is used for a certain task (usually, welding thin pieces of metal) so it's not really surprising if you need a welder to create that. you could make one of these with bolts only, even if it's a pain in the ass, take far more time to make it and it's not as strong than welded passes, but it should look good, leave some external rust and you're in post-apo setup :p
your channel just blew my mind away! for about a whole hour i've been watching your videos and i think i will watch all of them! You're truly a craftsman!
Awesome Project and great video but DIY my ass. You are a skilled tradesman with an entire machine shop at your disposal. Shit I can't afford an anvil not to mention a plasma cutter.
+Robert Nun'ya Yes this is DIY! As long as you have a welder you can make this, everything else can be done with hand tools, hacksaw, file etc. Actually you probably don't need a welder and could assemble most of it with bolts and pop rivets if you thought carefully about the design. Yes it takes longer with hand tools, however it is possible. A grinder makes it faster. I don't have an anvil (yet) I just find other heavy or correctly sized item in my garage to bend/bash around. A true DIY person finds a way to get the job done rather than wishing they had more tools. :-)
PiKey YEEEUP👍 , Buy ALL THAT OTHER SHIT, SO U can save a couple of hundred $$$ @ HARBOR FREIGHT🤔 GUY had way to much time on his hands, & wanted to SHOW OFF his cool shop to the rest of us... So now i know what to do with our old MICROWAVE that just broke, I just find somebody who's got all this cool stuff that I don't and say HERE, knock yer self out😏
My favourite machine build so far, will definitely have to try it when I get another transformer. This should save a few thousand pounds on buying a machine, thanks

1:18 can be done with a Hacksaw, you wouldnt even need to use material as large as they did. 1:25 isnt a TIG, its a MIG. That aside, you can do that with an MMA Arc Welder too, its just a bit more cleanup. 2:20 instead you could V-notch it at the point you want to bend it and weld the gap, not a smooth round bend, but a sharp bend, still gets the job done. 2:55 Sure a Drillpress is nice and all, but i cant count how many holes ive drilled with a normal battery drill because it was easier/quicker than running back to said drill press with some heavy piece of steel. Center punch or cross notch it, hold the drill steady and apply not to much pressure. 3:44 Slam it in your drills chuck, and go to town on some file or sandpaper, easy way to get a taper, or just buy two pt-31 plasma electrodes from a hardware store, their like 25 cents a piece and you would even end up with an easy to replace consumable. 5:28 The Plasma Cutter wasnt necessary if they would have planed for that foot pedal, so you could corner drill and hacksaw that easily. 6:01 Tinsnips, sheet metal scissors, heck even one of those scissors for chickens and turkey would be able to cut that stuff. 6:15 a brick would be enough. Just some examples, you dont always need the tools you see people using, quiet often their just the more easy or convenient way of doing it. Ive bought a lot of tools in the past thinking i would need specific tools to get something done.
Mate you no nothing about tools do you. He designed and built it himself didn’t he? That’s DYI. Just because he used quality tools does not make it any less DYI it just makes it easier, faster and a better quality result. He could build the same thing with a hacksaw and stick welder but it would not look as good and would take a lot longer. What I can’t believe is that you took the time to go back through the video and write down at what time all those tools were used just so you could write a complaint. Why don’t you use all that time to go and make something and put it on RUclips and show us all how good YOU are. Sorry mate but people like you are such fucking losers in my book. 🇦🇺
Yeah I'll just get right on that and buy a welder, pipe bender, microwave oven, 2 gage wire and variety of other equipment and make me a spot welder! Or maybe I should just spend a hundred bucks or so, and buy a ready made one that I know is going to work without all the hassle.
And then use it to make a.....a fuck it, skip the spot welder, just buy whatever you were going to make in the first place. Way easier. More your speed, too
if you watch the videos almost all equipment in his shop was built by him. besides all poor bastards like me like to see how to make something useful from nothing.
Very Nice! I'm glad you decided to cool it as many people choose not to cool their homemade spot welders. I would consider putting a shroud around and behind the fan so that way it doesn't suck in the same air as it tries to push it but ahh what do I know i'm just some kid! Love the video!
..awesome video...noticed that both secondary leads run through pieces of steel tube and throughout holes in steel plates. Also the electrodes are mounted within fully enclosed steel rings. That will give 6 one-turn selfinductions. If all fully enclosed one turn selfinductions are cut lenghtwise (In the direction of the current) a hacksawblade thick cut will do, the selfinduction effect then has gone, giving at least about 120 amps more current in the secondary circuit. The weld-on-time then can be lowered which will result in a better weld. (Same heat generated in less time= better weld).
You know the man's got skill if he's laying welds that fast and good. Also are you german because everything you make is alaways so beautifully overengineered
Excelente video, excelente idea, da gusto el manejo de los equipos y herramientas.Espectacular idea de reciclaje del horno de microondas. ¡Los Felicito!
With all that high-speed welding and heavy metal in the background, I thought I was watching "Made in Poland". You see a lot of spot welders on RUclips (and this is a particularly stylish one, I might add)... but I always cheer if they pull the old secondary coil out instead of cut the top off the transformer. Nice TIG work there!
Gotta love THAT! Mine is of very similar design, but the timer and cooling fan are the coup de gras. Will be re-configuring mine in the near future to incorporate those features. Thanks for the tips.
just ran into your channel on my way threw some how it made videos. dropped a sub cause this shit is dope man. thats what i like is channels all about over built over done EXTREME and just plain does everything that it was never intended to do in the first place kind of stuff.

Very well made video, can't understand people criticizing the fact that they can buy one on the cheap and not learn by doing the work themselves.I suspect that their age groups are in the younger bracket. However I would like to know what specs you have for microwave ovens. Here in Europe we have 220 volts and about 800 watts, I tried to make a metal melter but it will only heat up 6mm rod to a dull grey(sorry gray)and doesn't therefore really work. Please tell.Continue the great videos, thank you
Impressive Spot Welder, we all like it...............specially the relay part. But I don't know much of the timer relays........there by would like to request you to upload the circuit diagram for connecting the timer relay. Also, would like to request you to send me a link for purchasing this particular timer relay along with it's accessories like it's base connector etc.
The best dyi vid that I have seen in a very long time. I just wish you had all the right equipment to work with . And like John Hanrahan said your hole saw is bad ass? Also first time I have seen someone tap threads with drill press . Never too old to learn . I am going to the shop to try it with my 50 year old Craftsman tap & die set that is in the original wooden case. Then I will be looking at the rest of your videos .
1- What sheet thickness you can weld?
2- How many welds before it must be stopped to let it cool?
Dear Make it Extreme person, this video is fantastic! True art in construction and design!
Thanks, pierre (from New Mexico)
+pierre5325 Thank you very much pierre! :)
You could get even higher amperage with two secondarys in parallel with one turn each and then wire those in parallel. It would lower the voltage, but with the thickness of that cable, I don't think you would loose to much more to heat.
I don't know anything about welding machines, but I found it extremely professional. Very good!
People should know about the high voltage capacitor that should be discharged before randomly cutting wires. Even after it's been unplugged awhile, it can still kill you. Be safe.
+BirdsEyeView microwave oven caps have a built in resistor (parallel) to drain any "left overs"
chachavessel
True but I would never assume that... Resistors burn out sometimes and I wouldn't recommend anyone risk their life on an assumption of competency of the manufacturer.

These guys know how to biult a spot welder. You don't think they know about high voltage capacitors.
he said "people" should know, not "these guys" should know, he's talking about people who would try and build their own, obviously.
Wow...the result is a robust and professional spot welder made of scrap metal. Good idea, great video!
You are a man of many talents. Stunningly creative.
Thank you! :)

That would be cool. Its gotta be possible right

DIY spot welder.
Step one: get a welder.
+Viru Sinstall you need a welder to create a DIY Spot welder
smh
+Viru Sinstall grant thompson did one that is less awesome looking but doesn't require a welder to build
+fuckin kazars Sorry that this video was unable to hand you a welder with no effort, intellect or tooling required.

The moment he took out a welder I gave up on the diy part.
You can get an arc welder for very cheap, something like £50
yeah awesome, only what he's using is not an arc welder
and the what about the:
- Multi cutting chop saw 1:18
- Tig welder 1:25
- Bending machine 2:20
- Colomn drill 2:55
- Metal lathe 3:44
- Plasma cutter 5:28
- Metal chipper 6:01
- Anvil 6:15
1. Angle grinder
2. stick welder
3. use straight stock
4. normal drill
5. a file and a vise
6. angle grinder and cutoff wheel
7. angle grinder or sheet metal shears
8. a chunk o steel
WuTangcl you don't need a mig or a tig welder to weld properly
WuTangcl 1:25 Is not a tig welder 😂😂 it is a MIG welder, its completely different
I may not comment on every video you make...but I think each of your projects are very well done, designed, and functional! Keep it up!
+Heavyboxes Thank you my friend! :)
How to make this without a welder and angle grinder oh yeh and plasma cutter?
+Ville QQ you mean more extreme? cast/forge? :D
So much better than previous ones I've seen on RUclips. Great work!
+Live Free and DIY Thank you! :)
CLICK BAIT!! This is NOT DIY, try title: "Building spot welder WITH Pro tools"
A DIY doesn't consist of owning Pro power tools like:
- Multi cutting chop saw 1:18
- Tig welder 1:25
- Bending machine 2:20
- Colomn drill 2:55
- Metal lathe 3:44
- Plasma cutter 5:28
- Metal nibler 6:01
- Anvil 6:15
Ive bought a lot of tools in the past thinking i would need specific tools to get something done.
dude. that was a lot of work just to make up a new definition for DIY. he made it. It's DIY.

Hell, if you can afford a shop equipped like that, just go buy a fuckin' spot welder! ... DUH!

Please tell.Continue the great videos, thank you
beautiful workmanship! Nice video!
that is one hell of a beatiful weld
Impressive Spot Welder, we all like it...............specially the relay part. But I don't know much of the timer relays........there by would like to request you to upload the circuit diagram for connecting the timer relay. Also, would like to request you to send me a link for purchasing this particular timer relay along with it's accessories like it's base connector etc.
wow very well built good job!
+kenoalbatros Thanks!
As always, sick build .....
nice skills, awesome weld joints and good video editing
+bahopik Thank you very much!
Awesome! I saw a lot of Versions of a Spot welder Like this one. But that one is by far the best!
