Really evoked so many memories for me I left Walsall when my whole family moved to Devon in 89 I now live in Ireland...but you drive past places I used to walk as a kid from school at st Mary's the mount felt so strange to see it all again
Hi, thanks for watching! Yeah, it only takes a gimps of an old road or house to take you straight back there! New roads keep popping up, and I guess the traffic is a bit worse, but otherwise, I think everywhere around there is still pretty much the same! Glad you enjoyed watching and hopefully you will recognise some of the other places we've driven through 😁👍
I think the general layout is the same, it's all the islands, lights, filter lanes and one way streets that makes it a nightmare lol We were using Google maps as one of the GPS systems and half way through it just froze - Google crashed and we had to completely restart the phone! lol I'm not saying it was the area or route, but it's never happened before or since! lol
Walsall is awesome! Thank god for GPS. I love how organised & historical the place is. True middle England. The costs to live have become ridiculous. It all seems based on what certain people earn. Pricing out the grafters.
Hi, thanks for watching! Yeah, absolutely! The roads are a nightmare compared to what they used to be, that's for sure! lol The centre seems worse to drive through now they've changed all the roads, compared to how it used to be. Maybe it's just because there's more cars now. Google maps is a godsend! lol
Walsall is hard to get around now if your not used to it. The one way system is a bit chaotic. Also Arboretum lights doesn't happen anymore. Council said they can't afford it.
You would think they would make money from the lights! Same has happened with all the fairs, carnivals and fun runs. All towns are claiming not enough money, even though they generate a lot of profit! Madness! Yeah, the one-way system is bad and the lights seem to cause more traffic than anything! Always seems to be the way when councils roll out new 'improvement' initiatives! The 2 mill bus station didn't look like a 2 mill bus station either - 2 million for a tin roof! That must be some mighty fine tin! lol Thanks for watching and commenting 😁 👍
They sold all of the lights years ago (my mate bought loads of them), so even if they wanted to bring it back they can't unless they invest in new lights.
Lol, why does that not surprise me! 😂 Half our councils would sell the cats eyes out of the roads if they could, let alone pass up on the chance to make a few quid selling off the arboretum lights! Makes you want to clench your teeth when walking past the council offices in case they come running out after our filings! 😆 Half the motorways have turned their lights off as well - a lot of the sections where they're turning them off are places they've not long fitted new LED lampposts as well. That was a worthwhile expenditure! 🙃
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I was born in the old Manor Hospital almost 65 years ago and was bought up and worked in Walsall. I left 17 years ago and am shocked by how much it has changed in that time. I hardly recognise the place now. An awful lot of the original buildings have gone now. It was much better and nicer when I was growing up there. Spent many a Sunday afternoon in the Arboretum and always went to see the illuminations every year. I lived in the Coalpool area until I left. If I hadn’t come across this video I would never have known what it looks like now 😊
You missed the turning into Tower street then you turned right up bridgeman street back to where you came from on the ring road. Walsall Gala baths is in Tower street. Next to the civic centre and public library..
I think the baths are still there and thinking about it, I'm sure I saw something not long after filming saying about their brine bath! I know they had the two pills years ago, but doubted the maths were even still there, let alone still have both pools running!
@gBritain 23:30 on the right as you turned in is the Walsall swimming baths, it also has a gym unless your talking about a different swimming baths that i don't know about.
Very high diving board at Walsall Baths if I remember right - and the water was really cold, but the brine bath was extra warm - they could have done with mixing the two, or back then at least! lol
I have a distant memory of Walsall Village or Walsall Town or something like that. I'm not sure if it's from something back in history (more Dick Turpin era than Roman invasion), or if I've just confused it with somewhere else Even when areas become cities, it's not uncommon for parts of the original centre to keep a version of its original name - no idea if it's just locals keeping the names going or if it's done purposely as a nod to the areas heritage.

It's more like a maze around there nowadays! Lol
The swimming baths used to Def be on the right

M6 can be like going to a casino - it's always a gamble lol
Some days it can be OK, other days, not so much! Lol
You could have turned right next right after you said no right turn
And you can park in the car park. And yes it's still open
Very high diving board at Walsall Baths if I remember right - and the water was really cold, but the brine bath was extra warm - they could have done with mixing the two, or back then at least! lol

Did you really ask is Walsall a city ?
Do your research.
I have a distant memory of Walsall Village or Walsall Town or something like that. I'm not sure if it's from something back in history (more Dick Turpin era than Roman invasion), or if I've just confused it with somewhere else
Even when areas become cities, it's not uncommon for parts of the original centre to keep a version of its original name - no idea if it's just locals keeping the names going or if it's done purposely as a nod to the areas heritage.
