    1. IIRC all of the united cards offer trip protections. So you should be fine if you need to change or cancel. Not sure gow liberal or strict they are with reimbursements.
    2. United also offers a baggage subscription for $350/year. That can cover you if you have no united card or you only have the gateway card.

      Alot of times people are flying once or twice a year so the subscription is not worth it for them, also while the cards all over trip protection, its not instant for the claim and also not everyone has a credit card. I do have the United Card and use that perk but not everyone does.
