It has that being a kid , driving around on a Friday night with your friends , stars shining ,streets lights glaring in your eyes ,laughing singing along to the music blasting from the radio kind of vibe. What a decade it was. ; ( i miss it.
80s production was the true definition of talent and limitation. The young ones today try to get this sound, but it was those limitations in tech that got us the best music of ANY generation. Great reaction.
My girlfriends high school prom was the same weekend as the US Festival(1983) and we lived in the city where the festival was held. By pure luck the prom was at the same hotel that some of the bands were staying at after they performed! Sure enough, Flock of Seagulls came to the hotel after their performance at the US Festival, heard the music, and eventually came on stage and played a few songs with borrowed instruments from the house band! A memory forever etched in my brain!❤❤❤❤❤
Being a Brit 80's kid was amazing growing up then. Nothing will ever be the same, but channels like this help to keep the memories alive. Keep doing what your doing Cat. 🥰
This song is a beautiful mix of sound and vocal perfection. There is no other way to say it. The feeling you get from hearing this song is just pure joy.
I love this song! Played it like 15 times on repeat on my way to work today! I'm a Gen x/ millennial born 1983. I'm youngest of 2 older brothers and raised a lot by my grandma and dad. Anyhoo, I agree the 80s music was amazing! So true!
Fellow Xer here. I feel the nostalgia! This is one of my favorites. When I listen to it I cannot help but try to dance reliving the days when I would hang out at some clubs in NYC.
I think paul reynolds look, dance moves , style and vibe really captures the essence of the early 80’s new wave scene! This song really does transport you back in time!
Only got onto this song a year ago. Im 48! Your right, it's the sound. It transends everything. The guitar is exceptional, followed by the keyboards etc. Notice minimal lyrics ti not complicate things. Love this no end!
I remember buying their debut album when it first came out in the very early 80's.....me and my friends were blown away by the production and musicianship definitely an all time classic
Great tune from a great band paul Reynolds amazing guitar is lush, personally transfer affection from the Listen album was mine and my girlfriends favourite tune definitely worth a review I was 17 she was 20...were still married 37 years later ....😳😂
Great sound & song. Paul Reynolds gave it its title because he said it sounded like a Space Age Love Song even though its not included in the lyrics. I remember when I bought new records I always checked the B-Sides to see if they were any good. The B-Side of this is called 'Windows' and its almost as good as the A-Side. It's on RUclips you should have a listen. They have a new recording of 'Say You Love Me' out now in 2021 as a new single on their channel.I think its brilliant. They also have a version of this song recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018. The original members reformed to record it & a couple of new albums.
I remember in senior High School, a classmate brought his big boombox and played FOS cassette during our Drafting class (Teacher allowed us to play music during technical drafting work.) And I'm just blown away hearing FOS for the the first time. The electronic drums, deep bass/low-notes and the chorus effect on the electric guitars is just FOS signature sound.
Cat couldn't agree more! As one of the very few male aerobics instructors back in the late 90's of Aotearoa, these kinds of songs were our template. :-)
I was instantly intrigued by this song when it came out. The sound was so unique and soothing, while uplifting at the same time. Yeah....the hair. That was also intriguing. The first thought......why? LOL. Then you admitted to yourself......hey....that is kinda cool. Not for ME, but on him, in a punk rock band...it works. They got back together when they were "old" to perform in a small venue for nostalgia, and the person who organized it also looked to get 2 guys in the band to settle their differences and just make music again. Well, not only did they settle their long time differences but they also became a part of each other's daily lives again. That was moving. Also, the singer with the hair........was now BALD!!! That was an adjustment too. It was great to see them perform again. The video is on RUclips and is required viewing, in my opinion.
Gen-X, and recently stumbled upon this song again from the algorithm. Can't tell you how happy it has made me to be able to enjoy it again. The style of the 80s was WEIRD (believe me, I was there), but, the music was so great. Seeing it come back as it has, deeply gratifying.
Here’s a little nugget of joy. The lead singer with the wild hair is completely bald now. Who would have guessed? The good news is they reunited a couple years ago and can play and sing as great as ever!
The sound he got on his guitar was AMAZING!! I've played guitar for years, and it's very hard to get as sound (not style) that sounds unique to you. U2 has that sound too. I actually wore my hair pretty close to that in 1981.Their first two albums were a feast for the ears!!
@@transmit13 You have a great ear!! I loved the Chameleon's and use to blast their albums until I got a headache or the smoke wore off. "Up the Down Escalator" was one of the first songs I learned of theirs. The reverb made it a b*tch! You are right about U2, I was referring to the sound the Edge had with his effects, not the music.
Just came across this Gen x ended up watching for hours ha. I turned 11 in 1980 in Birmingham England 🏴 I was so privileged to grow up in this decade lived by Duran Duran got UB40 in my family and enjoyed all this great music. My kids have grown up with 80 s music and love it now as much as me. Keep bringing it. By the way your a beautiful woman too so bonus xxx
There’s so many reaction channels out there on RUclips but yours is great. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone who truly loves 80s music as you on here, it really comes through in your videos. Keep them coming! From a fellow 80s fan over here in the UK 🙂
I love this song....just has a gorgeous sound. Fond memory of this tune: driving into San Francisco on the Oakland Bay Bridge, low fog streaming across the top deck heading toward the iconic skyline....and this song comes on. Perfect. This is their best tune, along with 'Nightmares'.
Most of the music and songs from the 80s are so great because they were written, performed and sang by artists that actually have talent and care about what they created.
In 1988, they came to Athens, Ga to play a fraternity house party. The university had just implemented a rule regulating party size that was regulating the crowd size to about 300. Well, about 4,000 people showed up. The band played two songs before the police stopped everything. It was legendary.
You can see how AFOS took you back Cat ! . These days Mike Score has less hair, even back then his hairstyle, amazing as it was, looked, as we say in the North of England "looked a bit daft "!. My g/f called AFOS, A Flock Of Geese....!. I now only mention it about once a week !. Love you channel. Hi from England !. Cliffyc
I love this band so much and song, I am only 38 grew up more on 90's but watching t.v. VH1 had Big 80's, then and #1's opened my scope on the 80's acts like this Devo, Numan (Tubeway Army), The Tubes, The Cars. Also the 70's Pink Floyd, Robert Palmer, Morris Day & The Time, Ray Parker Jr. and many more I huge wide range even some late 60's stuff like Iggy Pop and The Stooges and Floyd's early Psychedelic Rock music.
Being right at the beginning of Gen X, I kinda had the best of both world - being a teenager and young adult during 80's New Waver and 90's Grunge :-) I'm still waiting for that time machine to be developed
I have loved Jennifer connelly since the 1,st time I saw you over 40 yrs ago now 72 n still in love with her she is perfection rocking out with flock of seagulls I mean what happened to them they were great
We love it because it takes us back to a wonderful time of youth. A period that invites nostalgia, wistful memories, experiences and feelings that will never be repeated again. A pure longing for those days past. Am I right?
Wow, hadn’t heard this song in so long and it immediately brought me back to when I saw them play this live in 1983- They were amazing (as were The Fixx and The Police, who also played)- Thank you so much for reminding me!
My friend and I were talking about this song one day, about where we first heard it. He told me he heard this while playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. I told him I heard this when I was watching a movie from the 80's that had either Jennifer Connelly or the girl that played Ferris Bueller's girlfriend as she and some other dude were skating around a Target store.
They did a great job capturing the feel of the 80s. The optimism and drive to push forward as a species. We were starting to open up to our global connections as a species and we had real enthusiasm in it and there airy and open notes and fun and lively beet was just so on point. They where is I recall one of the first five on MTV with Video Killed the radio star being the first and I was watching it live. :)
I'm a 'baby boomer'(the last year before 'Gen X')who heard this song on the radio when it came out-the track has stood the test of time and maybe will transcend it at some point...
Hey! I just discovered your channel...Love your reactions, especially to the 80's classics! I have a request. If you don't mind, can you please do a reaction video for "True" by Spandau Ballet? It's my all time favorite song :) Thank you for paying tribute to these undeniable classics!
The emotion Paul Reynolds puts into those 3 little notes on the guitar... I still get chills 40 years later.
Paul Reynolds in my opinion was one of the best guitarists at this time. He was definitely a reason for the sound.
I agree...
This is the deep 80's!!!
You can't get any more 80's than this.
🙂
🤜🏾💥🤛🏾
🤝🏾
I was 12 in '83... im 51 now. I still listen to this song. Good times! 👍
Same
I was 13 with ya.
I was born in 69, of course i spent my teen years in the 80's... so awesome... i wanna go back...
I must say it is my favorite love songs ever
Probably listened to it 1,000 times!

What a romantic song & the guitarist was a true innovator. Great pick. 👍
I love the version with Jennifer Connelly roller skating around Target in Career Opportunities.
Yes! Me too. I was tempted to play that one instead. Prettier visuals 😉
Takes me back to the old school days and that makes me happy 😊
Me too! Sounds like you and me grew up around the same time.
hello girl, upload videos please. you have those eyes that take me to heaven. I swear, I love your eyes girl, you are fantastic.
The memory of this song at dances alone brings happy feelings of high school.
Wishing?
Yeah,... and remember when MTV was know as music television because it actually had with music with video?
Being a teenager back in the 80's was magic...by far the best era imo.I ain't heard this song in ages thanks for bringing back the memories 👍🏻
"Do you like A Flock Of Seagulls?"
"Not as much as you seem to."
- The Wedding Singer
One of the coolest hair styles ever LOL
🤘🏻
They reformed recently and released an orchestral version of their album. The More You Live is another great track
I haven't heard that song for a long time I didn't know who sang it .... grateful to your channel and to your person ...
One of those 'driving' songs that I love. Cruising down the local strip near the beach with not a care in the world. Love it!

The real 80s trade mark sound 👍 long time I didn’t hear that song , thank you 🙏
Far out, like totally for sure ! For those of us who grew up in the 80s we were so fortunate it was totally awesome ❤❤❤❤❤
Totally
Flock of Seagulls is on my play list! I Love the 80's !
ahh Flock of Seagulls i love this song.
Flock of Seagulls was my first concert, back in 1983 or 84 in DC - The Fixx opened for them! Amazing show ;)
This song came out while I was in college, brings back so many memories, such great music we had in the 70s and 80s

Like several others have said already, the guitar in this is amazing. The guitar really sings and for me is what makes this song so memorable!
Like the guitar solo in Keep on loving you by REO Speedwagon. That solo by Gary Richrath to me is what made the song
Good reaction. Saw them live 1981 they were brilliant especially Paul Reynolds.... what a guitarist!
