  • Finally figured out how to remove and repair the sunroof headliner on my 1995 Mercedes s500. Came out amazing. I failed many times trying to do this and finally decided to dive deep and rip the wood headliner down and see how it was engineered. Final results are amazing.

My 1997 C280 headliner sagged. I finally ripped it off and have just kept the shade part open. Thanks for your video. I might give it a try?

Pete, if you were my neighbor, you'd never have to buy beer ever again. My '99 S320 sunroof headliner just peeled off too. Happens to almost all of them. Funny that they did such a great job on the rest of the ceiling but outsourced the sunroof to somebody's cousin in Austria with a drinking problem!

If you can take down the headliner it will be easier to work on. Not the easiest thing to do and won’t allow you to drive if you get stuck in middle
Also thank you. I plan to do a follow up video soon. I want to modify it more.

The headliner and sunroof are pains in the ass. I'm having issues with mine. The little plastic gear wheel in the front under the heardliner is stripped, so my headliner has to come down to repair it....so no sunroof usage for us!! BTW, I can't keep my eyes off those rims!!! JEEZ they look good!! Keep up the good work!!

The rims are my motivation to revive this car completely. Totally wish I had a shop. I would drop that headliner tomorrow and swap out the gears. Let me know if I can help at all with that project

Hi Pete, Great job fixing the sunroof headliner. Did you ever get a chance to cut those two vent holes and put the very fragile vent grilles back on?

Hi Pete I have a 1997 Mercedes s500. I was changing out my oil tubes like you show me how to do everything was going well until I put the screw in and I tightened it too much and it broke.

Please help where can I get another screw from. I tried Mercedes and they kept trying to sell me a home Depot screw. We all know them Mercedes require specialized screws please send me a website where I can get the screw from.

I have a ton of those screws if you mean the ones that hold down the covers over the tubes. Send me a message on instagram. I can help out

Hasan that is one of the smoothest and best built cars ever. If it wasn't for maintenance cost they would be unbeatable. But high cost means less people wanting but makes it more rare. Reason I will never buy a Camry. Just no fun

You have to remove the glass first, then the metal rails; then you can slide off the sunshade upwards out! I did it and you do not break nothing

Awesome. Appreciate. My whole thing was broken when I purchased so I did what I could to save as much as possible. Still works great.

Totally wrong. You do not have to remove the glass panel at all. Slide tue cover back. Then remove long black plastic trim piece that runs the width of the glass panel. Then remove the two side bellows as these are what pull the sun cover panel back. You don’t need a single tool except maybe a plastic trim pry tool for the long black piece. One the pieces are removed slide the glass back with the motor the panel should then be able to be pulled forward and then lifted out the top of the roof. This is nice cause when the sun cover is being re upholstered the glass roof can still open and close to keep the car secure, dry, and drivable.

Also everyone don’t do a hack job like this guy did. That wood is just going to warp in the sun and eventually start snagging on the headliner material near the Edgar’s of the sliding panel. You can get a nice panel from a junkyard or just remove your panel and get it professional reupholstered for a couple hundred bucks. Don’t do what this guy did and make your nice car look like it was butchered.

And 4 years later in the brutal Florida sun it’s still perfect. A lot of people just need to get something to function. I 100% agree removing the headliner is the way to go but your talking a lot of money and or a ton of time. I don’t make these videos for people who have tons of money and will have a shop do it. It’s for a quick option.
