Correction: sorta the chord i play at 3:37 (Cmaj7) is also played at 4:22 part instead of what i played in the video(C#). It will sound closer to the record rather than what i played + thats what josh plays. so it will go like this for the outro : F#maj7 x2 - Cmaj7 x2 - F#maj7 x2 - Cmaj7 x2 either chord works depending on what sounds better to you though, just thought id throw that out there! AND one more thing, in the beginning ish when hes just playing one single chord and rotating between the 3 chords, do an upstrum for those not a down!!
This video was the reason why I was able to perform Kilby Girl live on stage with the Backseat Lovers on June 6th 2023 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Thank you so much
This is crazy cause I saw a video on TikTok a few days before you commented this and ngl got a little jealous. But seeing as you came back to give credit makes me very grateful just knowing I was able to help you do that. Happy for you bro thats fucking amazing. You got to live out my dream 🤘😭
Bro i would hate to waste your time but I just wanted to say: I started playing guitar a couple months ago and i'm in school so its hard to find time to practice, but when I get my work done I get to play for a bit in one of the practice rooms during study hall! Playing along with these tutorials lightens up the whole day and it gives me something to look forward too in the middle of a tough day, so thank you for making my day always a bit brighter!! Keep being you brother :D
Ahh, a man of taste i see. Thanks so much for making this video, ever since my friend introduced me to the song i've wanted to play it so desperatley. You're truly talented
I know im so late to this video, but it was amazing. I found the backseat lovers a couple months ago and now im obsessed- Getting my first guitar soon and i can't wait to be able to play this
If anyone wants simplified chords you can play an F#maj7 by just holding doing the bottom 3 strings on the 2nd fret (capo on 4th) and for C#maj it’s just an A chord (4th fret capo again obviously)
@@t2factor18 you mean the top three strings? Im not confused here i’m pointing out your mistake. If you held the top 3 strings and didn’t play the bottom two then yes that would technically work. but considering this is a rock song that is a shitty way of playing that chord because you’re not getting the lower notes. additionally this doesn’t make it easier for beginners because it’s hard to mute or not strum the bottom two notes.
Thanks so much! I absolutely love this song so It would be nice to try and get the whole thing memorized. The instruction was just enough for me because I had prior knowledge of the song :) Subbed!
that first C# is fucking impossible, how do you keep your pointer finger on all three 😅 (Im still rather new, been playing for a year now on and off) Update: I GOT IT HELL YEAH
best to play their songs with a clean tone, preferably a fender amp of some sort. I would look into a Yamaha thr10, you can get the tone for this and more for $300 ish
New to guitar and I'm not too sure how the strumming pattern goes. Can't pick it up by ear. Wondering if you can just write it down as I'm not too sure what I'm doing lol
3:38 are you palm muting to play this part? I would mute with barring finger but it’s not possible with the capo. I find when I try to mute with my picking hand it sounds kinda messy. Help pleaseeeeee 🙏
for the intro when you play the E: 6 A: 6 i usually play the second half of it with E: 4 (no finger cause of capo) A: 6 so it’s E: 9 A: 8 for 4 bars, E: 6 A: 6 for two bars, and E: 4 A: 6 for two bars
Good tutorial but I wish you put the notation in relation to the capo. Normally, that wouldn't matter, but you didn't really stick to the capo-relation-notation the entire way. For example, the chord progression during the intro and verse is how you'd you play chords without the capo, but when you get into the part after playing the palm-muted intro again, you play (A 6/8-6-0-6-0) where the 0's should be 4 if you were to keep the actual frets that are pressed without a capo, or the (6/8-6-0-6-0) should be (2/4-2-0-2-0) if you were playing in relation to the capo, if that makes sense? Great tutorial, but if you're using a capo then make sure the notation sticks to one style of either being notated in relation to the capo, or the actual frets to press without the capo
@@dylan5784 It was still super helpful and one of the best for this song! I was trying to help a buddy that just started learning the guitar and he was confused so I explained to him about the notation. But still great job!

Yep it is a C#maj7 and not a C#. The rest is spot on.

I don’t think I need to explain how to play the other chord but if you’re incompetent it’s an Em chord
that definitely does not play and F#maj7
@@cameron8619 capo 4th fret, hold down bottem three strings 2 frets higher. F#Maj 7. the notes in that chord is an F#, C#, F, Bb.
Hope this helps

Hey man, any chance you could write out the strumming patterns? I feel like i'm not getting the down right.

what effects are you using to achieve the tone?
We will never know:"(((
I love playing this song on drums so naturally now I gotta try learn it on guitar. Thanks for this! 🤘🏻
at 4:03 the tab is mislabeled, the 11's should be 13's
Thanks Dylan!
this is such a good tutorial
im glad someone thinks so because I honestly hate it, I feel like I need to redo it

Amazing tutorial, needed a backing guitar tutorial of kilby girl coz my band will perform this song in the annual fest.😢

Down Up (Mute) Up Down Up (Mute) Up Down Up (Mute) Up Down Up Down

Could you also do a tutorial on the second guitar? That would be great because I can’t seem to find tabs or anything.
fr!!
What is the amp settings/ effects cause I only have a combo amp and I can't get to the perfect tone
Can you do pool house or watch your mouth. Their my favorite songs from them.
pool house yes, watch your mouth is actually the hardest song on the album for me, but i’ll have pool house out soon :)
Hi Dylan, could you do a tutorial on Diversity by Beach Fossils?
thank you jumpin right in, i hate lookin at ttls and u gotta skip like the first 12 mins of the vid ta get to tha actual thing
Maple House tutorial!! 🤙🏽
Nice video bro ;)

Hey what settings are you using for your amp??
What pedals did you use?
can you make a heavy tutorial pleassse I'm beggin
possibly, heavy is one of the few I don't know a lot of :/
great tutorial! I'm struggling to pick the palm muted part fast enough, any tips? if I go too fast I end up double hitting the a strinv
just keep practicing slower and itll come quicker than you realize :)
1 year later, use your pointer finger to mute it
3:38 are you palm muting to play this part? I would mute with barring finger but it’s not possible with the capo. I find when I try to mute with my picking hand it sounds kinda messy. Help pleaseeeeee 🙏
the tabs at 3:55 are wrong says 11th fret when u meant 13th
oh dang yea you’re right, good catch!
does anyone know what the picking in the chords are?, cause they spam it in the song?
Can you do one for pool house aswell?
Next on the list :)
Could you tell me the amp settings or any pedals you use to get this tone please?
Could you do Out of Tune?
Finally my god
But why there is no outro, it’s such a vibe, is it the same chords like in other part of the song?
Is this in standard tuning?
yes
Love the tutorial man what is the specific guitar called btw ?
fender telecaster
Are those the noiseless pickups?
Samarium Cobalt Noiseless
can you do just a friend by backseat lovers please🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️
ey man where did u get the guitar
ok but G#M how can i put my finger on the 4th fret of the e string if my capos there??
for the intro when you play the E: 6 A: 6 i usually play the second half of it with E: 4 (no finger cause of capo) A: 6
so it’s E: 9 A: 8 for 4 bars, E: 6 A: 6 for two bars, and E: 4 A: 6 for two bars
hmm ima give that a try! thanks
Thank uuuu

what kind of guitar do u got?
Im thinking of getting a jazzmaster fender so i can play mild orange songs but also want to do the backseat lover songs

yo dude could you do a lesson for pictures ? that would be greatly appreciated
definitely! been working on that one recently

Reverb
thousandth like :)
That one part kind of sounds like that older song for the 70’s
What kind of reverb is used in this song?
Coming from my Orange Crush Pro 120
anyone have the strumming pattern for the part after the palm mutes
what guitar does he use?
how long did this take you to learn?
at time of recording about 8 months and since this video i feel like ive learned even more so almost a year ig
Pretty sure 3:55 is 13 13 13 15 and not 11 11 11 15
yea tab mistake! this was my first go at it
what guitar is this?
Tabs at 3:55 are not accurate
U don’t show us the strumming pattern big poo poo
