- India has launched a major push to sell Africa weapons as part of its ambitions to boost its defense sector. On Wednesday, the Indian military invited army chiefs from over 30 African nations to inspect domestically made helicopters, drones and artillery. As well as boosting EXPORTS, India also wants to become less reliant on imports, including from Russia - as it faces off against China on their disputed border.

India is doing great in Defense, IT industry, Pharma Industry, Space Programs, Food Production. Good Luck India 👍
India defense: buy weapons. IT: outsourced project from us. Pharma: copy medicine. Space: base on Russian tech. Food prod: export when the per capital yield. The Indian yield is only half of that of china, how come it exports while china imports? It’s exports 25% of the rice market!
We are so much behind in defence and space industry.

I find it surprising that your New Delhi correspondent could not answer your questions correctly. To the Q about why India wants to hike exports and why choose defense as an industry over other sectors - the American, European, Russian and Chinese pathway should be able to provide you an answer.
India sees this as a viable sector is the simple answer. As it tries to bring down its own imports and design and manufacture more defense items for its own forces, it also looking to export the same in order to amortize development cost and learn from different use cases. Also, India brings in a lot of core strengths in defense.
Due to its inherent advanced capabilities in Software development, Rocketry (Space Program), Chip design and AI algorithms, this translates into cutting edge defence products in the field of Radars, Missiles and Aviation. Significant investments into the field of Missiles, Aviation, Radars and Artillery have resulted in world class products at fairly down to earth prices.
And like every sector, earning forex is now a key mandate, just like it is for Germany, France, Italy and Spain. India is not choosing Defence over any other sector, but like every big country with a lot of capacity and sectoral strength and variety, India is also focusing on the defence export sector. Its called adding value to the export list and shows how far India has come over the last 77 years.
Hope this explains your Q.
Absolutely marvelous explanation in respect of balanced ,fair and sensible approach. Your second paragraph especially makes it digestible to hard naysayers who can't even admit that Indian polity is so much mature wise and experienced in handling the overall country's development ,Forget about the technological innovations and low cost proven solutions that Indian R&D especially DRDO can provide with efficient Indian private OEMs and vendors. Actually the final question asked by the Anchor is semantically wrong. She said and I am paraphrasing "Why emphasize on defense sector over others?" You see, it's not "over other sectors"...we are making everything priority now and Defense sector was far behind the other industrialized sectors for quite some time. So, it's time it catches up with others.
Btw India is giving emphasis on all “other sectors” as well along with defence. India is one of the biggest weapon importer. If they could, they would fulfill domestic needs first.
that is the stupidest sentence i have ever read in my life. they cant build stuff for themselves but they can build stuff for others? no wonder they're no good at building anything, at least china gets practice due to economic industry, BUT all their products are still garbage, whats india's excuse? "hey africa wanna buy our garbage military equipment we have literally no experience at building"?
i wouldnt buy a flash light from india, it will be made with dodgy chinese parts and put together incompetently.
India now purchase most of its weapons domestically but fighter jets and other high-tech weapons we still have to import
