    What Ryobi needs to do is bring back a metal deck mower again. My plastic deck mower works good but it feels like this generation’s plastic Tonka toys. I want my generations metal Tonka toy…lol!

    Excited about these new Ridgid batteries! Hoping that they will also release 6.0Ah to 12.0Ah batteries line up and then move into more outdoor equipment since this provides more power. Additionally, increase to 40v or something like that will be good too!

    What's up, Clint!? Great video. Only part I wanted to correct you was @ 6:56 time stamp you mentioned that the 6ah 40v Reeobi was the smallest of the 40v line. But you are mistaken, my friend. I currently own a 2. something ah and 4.0ah 40v.

    I haven't seen the video yet, but I hope RIDGID doesn't come with another Drill Driver combo. If new tools come along that are somewhat different from the tools that already exist.

    I ain’t sold on the whole tabless thing. It doesn’t make sense how it’s better (as some people claim) then pouch cell packs. Though I do believe that it’s better than standard cylindrical cells, I’m gonna wait and see how it compares to pouch cells.

      I dont think its going to be better than flat/pouch cells, i dont see them claiming that. They are claiming better than their other 4ah cylindrical cell. I just dont know why they went to this instead of pouch cells like everyone else. Cheaper i guess?

    • @2down4up
      @2down4up 2 месяца назад +1

      @@jacksmith2315 My apologies, I should’ve been more clear. You’re absolutely correct, they as in the brands are not making that claim. When I said they, I meant a bunch of other people I’ve spoken with. So the reality is my “they” are just other random people no more qualified to speak on the subject then I. Personally I think the pouch cells are better, they, other random people I’ve spoken with disagree. That’s all I meant. Like you I don’t quite understand it either but the only thing that makes sense to me is exactly what you said, cheaper then pouch cells, and better then normal cylindrical cells.

    • @jacksmith2315
      @jacksmith2315 2 месяца назад

      @@2down4upno need to apologize bud. I just wasnt sure who you were reffering to as they. Whether it be Ridgid or other brands as well. Honestly, regular people was actually the last thing i thought of as they.
      But yea i really had no idea people were saying the tabless cells were better than the pouch cells. This is the first time Im hearing/seeing this. Idk how they could be better than pouch cells. Cylindrical cells are cylindrical cells regardless. There is only so much amperage, voltage, discharge, mAh, etc the specific cell can have/give. Yes, tabless may not take as much away from the cell, but it cant give you more out of the cells because its not there to give. Pouch cells actually give you more of everything. Idk, Im no expert, but it doesnt make sense to me how tabless can be better than pouch. The only way to make cylindrical cells put out more is to use a better cell that has higher specs. Like you cant make an lg 18650 better than a samsung 21700 because the 18650 is tabless and the 21700 has tabs, as long as you are getting the ratings/specs out of the 21700 that is has to offer. Now if the tabs were severely decreasing what the 21700 had to offer, than yes, but just going tabless isnt going to add anything to the 18650 to make it better than the 21700.
      Now maybe if the tabless had some way of making some rows in series and some parallel instead of all the tabbed packs being all parallel, than yes i could see how that could improve them, but idk if that could actually work because then your changing the nominal voltage and would burn out the tools. Idk.

      @@jacksmith2315 Damn! A civilized and intelligent conversation on RUclips! I have now seen it all lol! All kidding aside I 100% agree with you in everything you just said. In addition most battery packs are square or rectangle ish. Using square/rectangular pouch cells to fill a square/rectangular pack is a much more efficient use of the space. Additionally pouch cells can have darn near any size connection the manufacturer wants thereby eliminating a potential restriction when under high demand. Using pouch cells in modern shaped packs eliminates much of the wasted space between cylindrical cells in the same housing. That extra space can lead to greater capacity, better charge and discharge rates, and overall greater power density in equivalent packs or equivalent power density in smaller packs and so on. I live around the DC area, the DMV as some people call it. Much like other heavily populated cities, we have a ton of electric cars and most of them are Tesla. Of course Mr felon musk made a huge deal over the tabless batteries that he doesn’t make and therefore it’s much easier to accidentally bump into people who know about them. But I don’t think they know the whole story beyond what musk told them.

  • @GoHerd2001
    @GoHerd2001 2 месяца назад

    If I need to go out for 30 minutes and do a quick clean-up, I grab my Ryobi 40v 18" saw. If I know I'm going to be out there for a while (more than an hour), I grab my Stihl 18" gas saw. Same chains and the power between the two is pretty negligible - at least when the battery is at full power. Once the battery drops below 50% you can feel the drop in power. Thankfully, I have a handful of 40v batteries that are all 6ah.

    • @ToolReviewZone
      @ToolReviewZone  2 месяца назад +2

      Great possibility Louis. I think they git some push back from the consumer base when they discontinued them, so they probably have to do something to make them happy again

    • @jacksmith2315
      @jacksmith2315 2 месяца назад +1

      I still dont know why they got rid of the octane. I know they had a problem on some packs the bluetooth constantly scanning and draining the batteries, but all they had to do was get rid of the bluetooth if they couldnt figure out how to stop it from scanning. Thats one thing kills ridgid. They are constantly changing line up names so its not making customers comfortable they can put out a good product and have to keep changing it because of flaws. Even if its not because of flaws, it doesnt give customers the warm fuzzies when the brand cant stick with one or two line ups. Like gen x4, gen x5, gen x5 brushless, stealth force, octane, job max, just brushless, max output. Customers going in HD amd constantly seeing things change the name every year or two just doesnt instill much confidence in the brand. Had they just stuck with octane but removed the bluetooth, customers would be much more likely to stick with them. Especially since the octane was such a great line and even gave fuel a run for its money and in some cases out performed fuel. Maybe thats why they dropped it, couldnt have a cheaper pro-sumer line out performing the pro grade line.

    A minor nit-pick re the Ridgid battery description. "2X faster cutting". Actually, if an 18V battery is running maintaining 18 volts, it's going to deliver the exact same power. Remember Ohm's law.
    Batteries do have some internal resistance, and it's when that internal resistance causes a voltage-drop, that it delivers less. Thus, if we put a voltmeter across the voltage-output terminals of a battery and run the tool, and compare how much the voltages drop below 18V -- that's how you can compute the actual power-delivery of a battery. I'm just not believing (not having done the measurements yet) that the previous 18V batteries dropped SO MUCH voltage that these new ones have that much legroom to improve that much. Going to a higher voltage, is how you deliver more power.
    Off-hand (without actual evidence) - I think the copy-editor went unhinged on these claims.

    Tab-less cells aren’t going to give 3x more power. Bosch’s new pro core batteries have tabless cells and they do a great job explaining how it improves battery function.

    • @jacksmith2315
      @jacksmith2315 2 месяца назад

      Yea doesnt make sense to me either. You cant extract more from the cell than whats there. Especially with LiIon, they would just blow up. The pouch cells are the way to go at this point. Maybe its because w the tabless they are using better cells so they can still charge more but doesnt cost them as much as the pouch cells so they have a higher profit margin.

      @@jacksmith2315 there’s is a benefit I just can’t remember how Bosch describes it. They went from 21700 cells to tab-less 21700 cells, same cells just tab less🤷🏻‍♂️

    Im not a pro with chainsaws by anymeans, how does and 18" bar cut 32"? Put the tip in the middle and then use the top of the bar one side then the bottom the other? Or like starting at one end, then pulling back, like using it as you would a circ or recip saw? If thats the case, why would it only be 32"? That just doesnt make sense

    Rigid has said that they were coming out with tools before and batteries before and never did also they also had other reviews with other people stating about these batteries or batteries that are something like these and they never came out if you years back just because something is a good idea doesn't mean that it works it has to be practical in the working field that means that somebody has to have their hands on it and actually use this product if it's never made or if it's only one of them made and they just show you one product and you never get it how can you report on it it's like everybody saying that it's Easter when it's Christmas time it's one of those things that people don't think about but tool companies are known for saying one thing and doing another that is our opinion
