One of the few Anime that manages to hook not only casual anime fan but also history buffs, and tank nerds altogether
I just can't believe how much respect it has for history. Completely beyond modern biases. Just pure love for history
I had a roommate that is a tank nerd, has thousand hours in WoT but barely ever touches anime. I suggested GuP to him and he actually liked it.
For History buffs, don't really care with all of the character as long as the tank action acceptable.
Me who is all 3, I see this as an absolute win
You're completely right I watched Potential Historys series on it and decided to check it out and I really liked it
Fun fact. Nonna's Japanese VA (Sumire Uesaka) speaks fluent Russian, did her University thesis on the beginnings of the Red Army and has a fond fascination with Russian culture, history and music.
And that's her singing Katushka in the Japanese version. (Which makes the choices with the dub very odd)

God I love "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"! 100% one of the best renditions of the song!
Agree
Disagreed. Don't want to be the killjoy, but most of these songs are pretty tame renditions. Where is the fire? Sounds like a brass band of 15 people + strings.
@@ausnahmenwerfer5570 how about the instrumental of farewell of slavianka of sovietoad? intended as a meme joke but got all the crisp WAV...well rip cant ask for more orchestra cuz of the plane crash then again circulate the definitive versions of any if yall know
I prefer the Irish Rovers version. Also really surprised it was in Antz.
That sounds a lot likes song from strike force hero’s.
Girls und Panzer is one of the best shows I have ever watched period.
It is fun, wholesome with a lot of great characters and deep underlying messages.
The show's production quality is huge.
Just the effort they went through for the music is insane.
But it pays off. The music is a large part in each school's identity.
For a lot of songs, the GuP version is the best one out there.
I wish they could give the proper name for the performing band, so I would shamelessly add all these marches to my playlist while remaining a closet weeb
@@MDzmitry
I totally get you.
GuP is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me too.
I've never watched any other anime. I only got into it because of the tanks but then developed a love for the show as a whole.
That it is a show about teenage schoolgirls makes it especially awkward...
underlying messages 🤨
i agree that the show is great but i mostly find it fun i dont really seen any hiden deep messages in it
@@epileptickykanal1883 typically the protagonists are outgunned by vastly superior tanks and more experienced commanders. Yet they frequently use interesting tactics to beat those commanders. Essentially, “The enemy has memorized the playbook. So I threw it away and now we gamble that they don’t know how to react to a completely random-seeming technique that’s actually well thought out.”
Furthermore the main character goes from being terrified of tanking because of her past to becoming a confident but humble leader who still would make the same decisions for her crew of the situation arose. Overcoming one’s ghosts and demons.
It might not be super deep, but there are some things to take note of.
I'm pretty sure you love tank driving 300KM/H and denying the existence of physics.
One thing I appreciate about GuP is that the songs they used weren't necessarily the Nation's civilian songs, it was the *Soldier's* songs. Like soldiers doing their duty (Battle Hymn, British Grenadiers, Yuki no Shingen) or dreaming about the girl you left behind (Katyushya, Erika).
>dreaming about the girl you left behind
kind of funny in the context of the show
There is always the exception (funiculi funicula)
@@juanel2742 not in GuP but the Italians have Faccetta Nera I guess (lol)
Or soldiers going “im really hungry, but we have onions”
And, of course, Tetris (Korobeiniki)
Katyusha: A song about a Russian woman sending a song to her husband fighting in a war.
British Grenadiers: A march that's sound terrorized opposing armies when a bunch of madlad professionals in red coats chucked bombs at you.
Erika: A song sung by a bunch of upbeat German soldiers singing about this beautiful girl back home named Erika
Funiculi, Funicula: A song about a town in northern Italy that was psyched to get an elevator to go up and down a mountain...
Reason why Italy lost the war #14354363, no effective war songs to motivate the troops.
Chanson de l'Oignon - French grenadiers rubbing onion on their bread to which Napoleon said, "Very good, there is nothing better than an onion for marching on the road to glory"
Panzerlied - Literal armor marching to the frontlines
indeed Finiculi, Finicula wasn't a military march. It was a neapolitan song (so south Italy) talking about the first Railway up Mount Vesuvius. It wasn't used during the war.
Yuki no Shingun: A bunch of Japanese soldiers, dying of hunger and cold, being resigned to the fact that the higher ups want them to die anyway
@@adequate253 Panzerlied is the only song of those above that mentions the "honour of dying for their country". In this I have to side with Gen. Patton: "You don't win wars by dying for your country. You win wars by making the other bastard die for his!"

It’s so cool that they made the effort to sing Katyusha.
It's because Nonna's voice actress, Sumire Uesaka, is a massive Russophile and speaks unaccented fluent Russian- she really wanted a chance to use it given the show's themes. Her Cossack Lullaby performance was ad-libbed too- the script only called for her to sing any lullaby. Clara's main purpose to being added to the cast in der Film is for moments to talk in Russian. She's actually phoning it in during all the times too, adding more of an accent to sound more recognizable and cuter to the Japanese audience. It's a recurring punchline that Katyusha herself understands very little Russian (Clara as an exchange student aside, the rest of Pravda are Japanese girls from Hokkaido) so Nonna and Clara often have asides, often to Katyusha's mockery, behind her back but figuratively in front of her face because she can't understand them.
@@gtf234 very little aside from when she sings katyusha
@@dionjaywoollaston1349 Likely not even that, it's more a case where she learned how to sing it but has no idea what the words mean. Not uncommon of a practice, ABBA being kinda famous for not having any clue what they were saying in Dancing Queen despite their flawless pronunciation (which Katyusha's actress cannot pull off, but hardly a thing to fault her for)
@@gtf234 Tbh I've literally done that with both Chanson and Katyusha now so... yes. Common enough practice.

Girls and Panzers = Girls+Tanks
J'adore cet animé ⚔️🔥
45:19 I just keep coming back to this section, it's... Utterly beautiful. Going from the uber-triumphant call of Chi-Ha-Tan Academy, as they've finally figured their shit out, to that ***glorious*** rendition of Ooarai's anthem.
Many people have stated this, but I feel it bears repeating: this final track, and **especially** this last Hoo-Rah just feels incredible. It's heartwarming, it's bold, and it feels like a finale. We're not giving up without a fight, and what a fight it was!
7:16 Im so glad my country is being represented like this.
Germany: I have the best motivational songs
Russia: no it's me
Finland: 1 is enough
England: where there is little, there is quality
Italy: what are morale songs?
Don't know if I have to make an elevator or an pizza joke XDD
Never watch GuP and start watching GuP right after listening this songs.
Best decision ever
