Join me for an update on the much-anticipated Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows! This new tower is an addition to the existing Disney Vacation Club component of this opening day Disney World resort. Members have been eagerly awaiting information about whether this resort will have resale restrictions and points use restrictions AFTER resale. It looks like today we got our answer, and I cover the good, the bad and the overall implications of this decision.

While I don’t own at Poly, this is exciting news for existing Poly owners and all DVC owners! Good job DVC with not making this a separate association with resale restrictions.

One more huge benefit is existing members can add on 25 points. Since Copper Creek, minimum add on is 50 points. I don't mind paying $5 to 6k for an add on vs. $12,000.00.

As a resale Poly member, I’m happy to hear the new tower is joining the existing association. I’m wondering if going forward the resort will be overall harder to book (I’m looking at you GFV in early December - own there as well) and the increased traffic on the monorail. Time will tell! Yeah, I think the existing Poly owners are the real winners here. I agree that it may become harder to book, but I also felt that our Poly 11 month advantage wasn't really doing much for us. Now it may be a lot MORE of an advantage for us Poly owners. Thanks for watching!

We own resale at OKW so this makes me happy. We were thinking about adding on 150 direct but with the current OKW incentives I think we’ll just do that as well.

I am so happy to have additional room types made available as part of my Poly Home resort. For all the reasons stated in these comments this is good news. My only regret is that DVC chose not to offer a 3 bedroom villa at the Island Tower. I was going to buy more points to stay at a grand villa, but I am reconsidering unless those new penthouse 2 bedroom villas are really fabulous.
That's a shame about the 3 bedroom... but many of those rooms in the new Island Tower at going to have AMAZING views! That would be a big draw for me. Thanks for watching! Have a wonderful weekend!
If it was its own, we would only be superseded at 11-7 months with tower owners. Now all existing Poly owners will have that advantage. If it was its own, presumably some resale owners would have been blocked out. As a direct owner (not at Poly), those two things would have been better for me. I see why they did it, you just asked for the opposing view point.
I appreciate hearing your perspective. It’s true that it will be harder for direct owners to compete for the tower at the 7 month window, since you have all the resale owners with you. Thanks for pointing that out.
The DVC tower to the left of the Polynesian Resort completely clashes with the Polynesian Resort design and theming.
I can understand that perspective. I'm hopeful that it will be more of an Aulani vibe.
Poly owner. This is great, but hopefully, they don't move around points too much in order to make the bungalows cheaper.
Yeah, that's a good point. At least there aren't very many bungalows, so hopefully it won't have a huge impact if they ever do it. At least this would give more units to spread that across.
