  • In this episode of the Stevenson Weekender Sailboat build I create the bottom hull of the boat out of 1/2 inch marine plywood following the plans from the build manual. I then attach the bottom hull to the keel (that I made in the last video) using TotalBoat 5:1 epoxy.
This is my first time building a boat. I'm a do-it-yourself guy and don't claim to be an expert. I love creating new things and learning new skills.
The plans for this boat can be purchased at www.stevproj.com.

I would have totally forgotten to keep the saw in the correct orientation on the other side. Looking great! Your dad would be proud. Next time I will bring a chair and supervise. Every time you say epoxy I’ll take a drink!

Ha! That’s a deal. I didn’t realize I had said it that much. TotalBoat would be proud.

Fo anyone wishing to advise to build any other boat - Let the man build his cool boat! Yes, there are many other better boats out there, like aircraft carriers for example, but he wants to build this boat. I also bought the plans maybe 3 years ago and will commence building my weekender boat sometime in the future. I have sailed dinghies, halcats, hobiecats, Huner 21 boats just to name a few. Each of these boats have their great personalities but the weekender will just add to that list of good and bad boats. And it the windward performance of my weekender is not good enough for me, then I will just use her to reach and run under sail and motor to windward.... no problems there! But what's the rush anyway to get back to the hard? Just more sailing. PS, Love the cats! LOL!

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m also excited to eventually see how she sails. Have a great day!

Great job, all I can suggest is when it comes to applying the fiber glass don't overlook using pealply. It will save you hours when it comes to finish sanding.
    Just a thought.

Looks like you're still less than 10% in, as for cost. So I still urge you to abandon this and build a better design instead. See my more lengthy comments in Episode 1.
