  • Since the release of the new Epilog Fusion Edge, I have received a lot of questions about how it stacks up against the Mini 24. The Fusion Edge is the replacement for the Mini 24. The question I have received most often is, is it worth upgrading to the Fusion Edge? Let's find out!

    I would have liked to see a comparison of vector curve quality at different speeds. I have an Epilog Helix. I used perfect circles to gauge the difference in vector speeds for a project several years ago that I needed to shave as much time as possible off of. Knowing if the same project can be vector cut faster on the Edge would be a very huge deal when bidding large projects.

    I have actually had much more issues with our new 50 watt fusion edge than the Epilog mini 40 watt. That older model machine was a tank.

    Both great machines but the Fusion is easier interface, faster, set up is easier and a camera for better alignment and you can capture parts with the camera and extrapolate them to make jigs and inserts for packaging etc. . Job Manager is also a great addition to the interface to organize and save jobs. I work on this entire line it is a great upgrade to an already great little machine.

    If your purpose was to start an arts and crafts laser engraving business out of your house which is what my wife and I want to do, what would you do differently than when you started and what would you get today? Do you have a video on that? Great content...Keep the videos coming.

      That's actually how I started. My first laser was a full spectrum hobby laser that I bought used off of Craigslist. Then I found an Epilog Mini on Craigslist a year or so later and bought that. If you are buying brand new, I'd look at the Epilog Zing. It's a great entry-level machine. I don't have a video on all of that but hope to make one.

      yucelyilmaz1 you will need to pick a vector software to use. The most common are Illustrator, CorelDraw, and Affinity Designer. That’s the majority of the learning curve. You can run it out of your house. I do it in my garage.

    What's the difference between something like this and a glowforge?

    • @MakerExperiment
      @MakerExperiment  3 года назад

      This machine is Epilog’s middle tier machine. The machine that would be the closest model to compare is the Epilog Zing. That being said, there are a lot of differences. The type of tube, the bed size, the motors, the housing is all metal, speeds and a lot more. I don’t have a Glowforge to put side by side but if you’re going to compare them, look at the Epilog Zing.

    could you have set the power to 67% on the edge so that you are matching power that by theory would make them both same power (40w) or at least giving you same power at 100% on the mini. so if you running 50% on mini would it not make the edge to be at 20/60= 34%? that would give you closer accuracy for visual appearance of end result on your materials.

    • @MakerExperiment
      @MakerExperiment  3 года назад

      Engravings by Jay if the goal was visual appearance, yes. The reason I did it this way was because I had concerns that people would think I was fudging the numbers because the power didn’t match. However, you are correct that you could alter the power on the edge for visual appearance.

    • @engravingsbyjay349

      oh also on the front panel could you easily replace with either quick release fasteners in place of current fasteners? or replace with thumbscrews like used on back of a PC to make removing side panels quickly?

    • @MakerExperiment
      @MakerExperiment  3 года назад

      Engravings by Jay it should be possible. The main thing there is to verify the threads match. I’m not sure if they list the thread size. Keep in mind, this is a beta unit and not the final production unit so they may change this.

    I would have run them at the same power, not the same percentage. (for example: 50% of 40W is 20W, 34% of 60W is 20.4W)

    • @MakerExperiment
      @MakerExperiment  3 года назад

      The purpose of the test was to see the speed difference of the machine. The power influences the looks and ultimately you want to change that but to understand how much faster the machine really is motor wise, the percent would have to match.
