If an influencer doesn’t dislike any fragrances, I don’t trust them. My assumption is that at worst they’re lying, and at best they have an extremely broad palette (and I don’t) so I can’t use any of their recommendations.

I also don’t like it when every new release is a “must have”. Some get it for free but it’s hard when you have to fork out $200-400 of your own money. I always listen to multiple RUclipsrs, read Fragrantica and reddit reviews before committing.

@@niklaus009I've been doing some of the perfume subscriptions, where you get enough of a perfume to last you a month. That's really helped me decide what to commit to after having watched all the reviews. If you're only going to wear something for special occasions too, you can just reorder it when it's almost out without having to commit to buying a full bottle of a 200 perfume. I'm making much better purchases now. Rather than accumalating a huge collection of stuff I never wear. 😂

To me, an unsafe blind buy is the price point. Blanche Bete, MFK, Amouage, PDM, all designer Prive/ Private collections etc… for that kind of money, there’s no room for the slightest bit of mediocrity for me. I need to love it.

  • @sashanoel8766
    @sashanoel8766 8 месяцев назад +7

“Normalize not liking” perfumes… yes!!! We need to remember that olfactory perception is SUBJECTIVE and your opinion does not have authority over someone else’s opinion about it. To each his own. Blanche Bete gets me SO many compliments from BOTH men and women of all ethnicities. Honestly one of my top fragrances. Lactonic/white florals really love my body chemistry. Most niche fragrances don’t require body chemistry to smell good and usually don’t change from person to person but lactonics do. I’m typically very warm so is heats up on my body to where I’ve been told I smell alluring and hypnotic. I never thought lactic would ever smell good on me, but they do so take all of it with the grain of salt.

I LOVE how subjective scent is. This video was such a great idea and your message/disclaimer is so true!! I would have to add to the list all Montale/Mancera perfumes... I've tried a handful of them, and unfortunately they've all been scrubbers. I've tried macerating, different weather, clothing vs skin, and nothing has worked for me. I wanted to love Velvet Vanilla so much, but there's a synthetic note that just pierces through all of the notes that I cannot get on board with. And this is unfortunately the same for all of the other scents I've tried from them. Such a great video!!! Thanks for shedding some light on normalizing disliking big name fragrances.

Black Orchid is the fragrance that made me commit to no longer blind buying anything. It was a scrubber for sure, one spray almost choked me out, and it made my head hurt. I couldn't get it off my skin fast enough. Oh god, it was horrible. So strong, and to me it smelled like a mixture of alchopop vomit, stale cigarette smoke, cheap sex and regrets. I gave it away.

I also think that maybe people have not tried too many perfumes. Because if D&G Devotion is a "scrubber" for them, then maybe they haven't tried a wide variety of fragrances. 😬🤷‍♀️ ... and there isn't anything wrong with that either. Fragrance is so personal and your taste can change over time. I'm just getting into fragrance and the first thing I learned is not to blind buy because there are fragrances that are so expensive and raved about that I have tried and could not stand. At first I thought there was something wrong with me but at the end of the day, it's perfume and personal preference. Thanks for your review!

I like Coco Madamoiselle, but I recently discovered that I LOVE Coco!
Love Libre Intense, and Le Parfum. I never tried the OG. I also still love the original Opium, a fragrance from my 30s. 😊
I actually get a body odor smell from BR540!😳
My scrubbers are: Initio Side Effect, Mancera Red Tobacco, and all of the Angels and Aliens! I detest them all!😂
This was fun hearing about the opinions of others. I thoroughly believe in people being able to voice their dislike of fragrances without fear of censure! Thank you.

I must be overly tired and easily amused.
My inner child giggles when i hear ”scrubber parfume”
( ”scrubber” has a specific meaning in British slang ).
    Great video!
I wish there was a video with influencers insulting each others fragrances ( regardless of how they actually feel ).
    Roasting each others tastes.
A relief from all the ”panty dropper” routines.
Thank for a bit of nuance! 👍

I honestly love this topic. It’s very annoying when people get triggered by someone else disliking a fragrance they love…some ppl are too much. I agree with some of these to a point: Oud Satin Mood isn’t necessarily a scrubber, I can tolerate it, but I don’t like it, it’s just a mess of a scent. Black Orchid is a weird one for me, sometimes I love it, other times I hate it…more often than not it’s a hate. BR540 is one that I love the opening of, but after a few minutes I hate it. Chanel no5, is a no on me, but I like it on others. Vanilla Milk is good on paper, but on skin something comes out that I just can’t deal with. Good Girl is a scrubber, I have no idea why it gets hyped, imo, it’s awful. The others, I either don’t know, or I like/love. The worst fragrances I’ve ever smelled are probably Santal 33 by Byredo and Ambre Fétiche by Annick Goutal.

I don't think it's even a taste thing with a lot of scents nowadays - I'm absolutely sure that modern aroma chemicals are why so many new hyped up perfumes are scrubbers - I'm one of the people who only smell chemicals in Bake, Devotion etc. I genuinely don't know what those smell like to other people because I can't percieve what the notes are supposed to smell like - it might aswell be Cif bathroom cleaner as far as my scent receptors can tell - Good Girl smells like creosote to me and apparently it's something called Veramoss (it's in so many modern perfumes!) And it sounds like Vanilla Milk might have that same chemical in it too - it's honestly everywhere but so many people can't smell it!

When I tried Rosendo Mateo 5 for the first time I thought is the worst perfume I ever put my nose on.
Here I am, a year later I got a decant again, and I don’t know…I kinda like it 🙈 Its not as rubbery, more sweet and mysterious.

Black opium the original is my signature if I had to say I have one. Everytime I wear it there is always a compliment from a man on how good I smell. It never fails me EVER! If you want attention then that's the one you wear because its really grabs attention of men. People associate me with that scent too. I have le parfume and love that one as well! I get more compliments on the original to be honest because its louder and more people pick up on it which is followed by a "you smell like vanilla or you smell so good!" I dont mind people don't wear it or like it because at this point it smells original again because no one is wearing it like they used to. She's my ride or die, a guaranteed you smell good. If you didn't like the original then try the le parfume, shes real good too.

Marc-Antoine Barrois ganymede extrait, i was gifted a very generous sample of this and ............ oh my goodness i couldn't scrub it off fast enough. I was wearing a wool sweater at the time and sprayed some onto the sleave. Now for context i try to not wash my wool sweaters( i prefer to hang them on the line and let them air out in the cold air) I smelled Ganymede on my sweater for days and days until i finally had to take it to the dry cleaners. I just can't get on with this scent. Straight up curry. I love to authentic curry to eat, not to wear as a perfume. Sorry not sorry. Happy New year!

As much as I try not to take it personally, I must confess that it's harder on ones that I feel so strongly about like Blanche Bete. It's such a standout imo and I get tons of compliments when I wear it. Totally with you on Delina Exclusif. I absolutely love it but I strongly dislike regular Delina. I really wanted to like the new Dolce and Gabanna. but mannn it smells nice for a sec in the opening then it smells like someone dumped a bowl of that syrupy canned fruit that people put in jello moulds on me! I felt like I had spilled it on my hand! Its just weird. It was almost shocking how it turned weird on me. Body chemestry is so facinating and that is why fragrance is so personal and you cant follow the heard on every one for sure!

I don’t think Devotion was a scrubber personally but I do think it has a super gourmand scent. Some people really don’t like the realistic dessert smells. To me it was a bit lactonic and too foodie for me. Vanilla Milk on the other hand was actually atrocious hahaha to me anyways. I’m not a fan of lactonic scents as I just said but that perfume nearly smelled fermented to me. If I smelled that on someone I would straight up gag

I can’t help but wonder if some of these perfumes are literally formulated differently and therefore, have different reactions from different people. Perhaps those that love certain scents got a good “batch,” and those that hate the same scent got a bad “batch..” Or maybe a supplier of a certain note was switched and it made all the difference.. or maybe a batch sat on a hot truck too long, or a cold truck too long. Just my thoughts because it’s hard to imagine professional perfumers would intentionally make horrid scents 😄

Two perfumes that i can think of right now that were absolute scubbers were This is Her by Zaldig & Voltaire and L'interdit (the whole line). YSL Black Opium, YSL Libre Intense, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle & Amouge Guidance are some of my favorites. Libre Intense & Guidance are top 10 for life. Guidance was a blind buy. Valentino Born in Roma Intense was also a blind buy and it is not my favorite. I wore one spray on my wrist and smelled it all day at work. I am going to try wearing it below the knees next time to see if I can stand it. Not a bad scent but way to much of something. I tried Tom Ford Black Orchid on in store and before I left decided it was not for me. If I ever find it on a major sale I will probably pick it up. It was a little more masculine on my skin.
