    Notes
    Listening to self talk is like learning a new language. It takes practice and repetition.
    The 6 Key Points are:
    1. Select the topic you want to work on most first.
    2. Listen everyday.
    3. Listen to self talk in the background when you’re doing something else
    4. The best times of the day to listen is while getting ready in the morning, while driving in car, and while exercising.
    5. Listen to self talk before you go into a meeting.
    6. Focus on each topic for about 2-3 weeks, then you can move on to another topic.
    7. Set a goal to Listen to self talk for 15 minutes a day and do that for at least 21 days.

    What self-talk do you recommend for wishing things were different than they are? And YES, I have accepted the reality of the situation, but I can not shake the despair and grief around it. I'm dealing with my mother, who has a terminal illness, and she is no longer able to communicate. I am her caregiver and will be dealing with this situation probably for a couple more years. Every day, I live in stress and despair. What am I supposed to say to myself in this situation?
    I'm just asking for the self-talk portion, and not any advice on the situation. I have plenty of advice already.

    Dear Dr my question i make my affirmations tape or listening other self talk tape thank you the answer!

  • @AlvaSudden
    @AlvaSudden 3 года назад

    When you say it's like "learning a language," remember a LOT of people have tried to learn a new language and not done very well. This sets up a feeling of failure in my mind right away when I hear it. I learned a language but never felt confident or fluent and always feel badly about that.

    • @shadhelmstetter
      @shadhelmstetter  3 года назад +4

      CR R, Thank you for your comments. Everyone learns to use their first language by hearing it spoken in the background of their lives, and they learn to use the language as perfectly as the people around them were speaking it. Listening to self-talk in the background is very similar to learning that first language, by listening to it in the background. But learning new self-talk is easier because we’re already speaking the basic language-English-we’re just adding new vocabulary and phrases. It might help to know that for more than forty years, many tens of thousands of people have learned positive self-talk very successfully in this way. Also, keep in mind that the focus here isn’t on passing a language test, it’s on changing your thinking over time. CR R, thank you again. I hope that helps.

    Dr . Shad, I downloaded the new app. It's awesome. I noticed there are programs directed towards woman and young ladies. I am wondering if you plan on making programs geared towards men?

  • @Pelhambaysixexpress
    @Pelhambaysixexpress Год назад

    Hi Shad is there a difference and/or an advantage between listening to a full program vs listening to the 10-18 minute sessions apart at different times throughout the day. For example I listen to the weight loss session on the self talk + app and on that session there is a 48 minute in length program and there are 3 sessions that are broken up into (3). Is splitting it into the 3 weight loss sessions of staying with (session 1) , sitting down to eat (session 2) & saying no (session 3) a better idea to let the mind absorb the self talk better?

    • @shadhelmstetter
      @shadhelmstetter  Год назад +1

      I recommend focusing on a single session at a time, although there are many people who listen to two or three in a single listening period. The key is to do what is most comfortable for you, but without overdoing it. When people try to listen to too much self-talk too rapidly they can go into overwhelm and may even stop listening because it was just too much. Remember, the purpose of listening to positive self-talk is the same as that of learning a new language. When you approach it in that way, it makes sense to take it slower and stay with each session long enough for it to begin to be wired into your brain. That’s how language learning works. Let me know if I can help you in any other way, and keep being incredible!

    Hi Shad, I have two quick questions for you, I hope you’ll answer. First, I don’t know if I have understood well what you mean when you say “you don’t have to really listen”. Even if I don’t hear the words that I’m playing in the background because I’m thinking about something else or I’m focused on something else it will still work? Second, I don't have to do anything else but listen, right? My brain will make sure that everything that I listen to will became an actual fact in my life, right?

    • @shadhelmstetter
      @shadhelmstetter  Год назад +1

      We learned our first language by hearing it in the background of our lives when we were young. Learning positive self-talk works the same way. With repetition, the brain wires it in, and it becomes part of our language-but in this case, our ‘success’ language. Regarding your second question, there’s nothing magic about it. Listening to positive self-talk changes your beliefs about yourself, and that changes your attitude, and your attitude changes your actions, and the right actions change your outcome. I hope that helps. All my best to you!

    Sir is selftalk should be in one's mother tongue?

    • @shadhelmstetter
      @shadhelmstetter  Год назад

      Listening to self-talk usually works well in a second language. Many people even use self-talk listening sessions to help them improve their language comprehension, so while they’re practicing English, they’re also wiring their brain to think in the positive.

    Is it ok to listen to multiple subjects for a good amount of time per day. Example, an hour of self talk directed towards all areas of your life?

    • @shadhelmstetter
      @shadhelmstetter  6 лет назад +7

      Gar O Brien, It’s better to focus on one key subject area at a time, at least once a day for a minimum of two to three weeks, and then move on to another topic. Your brain will wire in the new messages stronger by listening to the same programs repeated each day.
