I think Moto Guzzi really nailed it with this model. They understood the market and gave the riders a nice, practical, comfortable machine, without compromising their style and italian charm.
I'm only half way through, but this review is providing two orders of magnitude more than anything I've seen to date. This is what bike reviews should be like.
Moto guzzi is slowly becoming my favorite motorcycle manufacturer. It’s very German in it’s attention to longevity and very Italian in it’s attention to aesthetics and charm.
First reviewer in general that I’ve seen who accepts the characteristics of a bike rather than call them shortcomings or negatives. Cred where it’s due, this guy reviews bikes the honest way.
I love my guzzi and love seeing whats new in their lineup for 2020. Looks like its gonna be a home run once production catches up with demand. I love that Guzzi sticks with what they know best, the air-cooled adds such a nice bit of character to their bikes. The v85 is no exception, this bike is sharp.
The bikes engine mapping is restricted until first service, this is shown when over speed indicator lights flash during engine run in. The engine comes alive after service remapping, and is a different bike from pre service. I absolutely love riding my V85TT travel, and hope to do some serious miles on it.
I do not believe that the mapping is changed. Mine was not after the first service. Only the threshold that starts the LEDs to flash due to the rpm is altered. But you can change this whenever you want on your own. And I did so.
Sounds like more than enough bike fr the majority of occasions. I enjoy a bike that doesn't want you to ride at 10/10ths all the time, enjoy the ride! ✌
Good review. Guzzis are not for everyone. And they are not like other motorcycles, especially the older carb'd models before the factory got into flywheel lightening. And thats how i like it. A reccommendation for anybody serious about test riding, turn down any 50-100 mile test ride - you won't like it. Take one for a morning or afternoon, or preferably the whole day, long term.like Jamie, and, if you're different from the crowd, you'll get it, and sign on the dotted line. Greatest motorcycles made in the last 50 years. Period.
Great review Moto Geo, really nicely done, and I'm so pleased you liked the bike and gave it such a favourable review. In the real world, I don't think that many people would be frustrated by a lack of power - it seems to have plenty of shunt, and anyway it's always going to be more rewarding to able to use ALL of it, rather than only SOME of it on some 160-180hp rocket. Guzzi may have a long and illustrious racing pedigree, but their line-up nowadays isn't designed to hurtle you towards oblivion at warp speed; and a big engine in a softer state of tune, albeit with gobs of torque, is going to last well and not be some temperamental, high-maintenance projectile only for those with deep pockets. I love my Guzzis, they're keepers, they grow on you and keep on growing. Great bikes.
@@younicbic molto bene, poi ovviamente solo tu puoi conoscere le tue esigenze. È una moto tutto fare e di per se non fa niente al massimo. Provala. Secondo me nel suo segmento è la migliore.
@@gregmatty6393 really happy, it looks like a solid build bike. And it worths the money i`ve spent. If you enjoy driving in a wide range of conditions, as a pleasure not like a race, give it a try. The only cons i can say is that the protection against wind on higway is not good.
Excellent review with all the right information (except price, which is another big advantage of this bike). I love that you give both weights, dry and kerb; this is the only way to compare different bikes, especially when one has a big tank. Guzzi deserve to sell these in droves. Guzzis are keepers too, you grow together. They last.
Thank you for actually taking this bike off the road and on the trail! I have only 200 miles on mine and can’t wait to get it on some trails. Agree with downshifting in corners.
Great review. The engine is a superb design that has being perfected by MotoGuzzi over decades. Overhead valve design which means supremely reliable because of the use of push rods to actuate the valves the distance between the crankshaft and camshaft is very short hence only a short chain required. These are forever engines. I had a 30,000+ mile Breva 750 & it had being well used but it never used any oil between changes and I tell you once I'd set the tappets myself with just a feeler gauge, ring spanner and screw driver the idling was rock steady at 1,300 rpm and the motor still sounded tight. You don't have to remove fuel tanks or radiator's to do the tappet's just the rocker cover's & only 2 valves per cylinder. So easy and if you don't want to do yourself then very cheap to get it down as a very quick & easy job.He mentioned like a GS however not the weight of a GS. Shaft is great as you don't have to worry about lubricating your chain and it's easy to service when it comes to doing the oil. The other big factor is the seat height at about 830 mm is manageable for most. The Tenere certainly isn't. The Triumph Tiger suffers the same problem. It can look the best but if you can't get your feet down to even support the bike then there's not much point especially off road.
Your comment is good because I will be in the market for a reliable adventure bike with easy maintenance. The africa twin takes hours to do shim valves and the BMW does no longer seem to be that reliable.Only concern is that I had a lemans 2 with oils leaks affecting the dry clutch plate, broken universal joint and electric starting problems. That put me off so I sold it to purchase a Japanese machine.
Very concise review of Guzzi’s V85tt - thanks for sharing. Had Guzzis for years and always impressed with them as long-term ownership bikes. Great lookers, good engines and torque, easy maintenance and usually very well styled - what’s not to like. But as you say in your video, you have to know how to ride them.
Nice to see a rider that acknowledges the bike for what it is designed for, it amazes me that people buy this bike and try to ride it like a ZX10. It's heart breaking. Having had shaft driven v twins for many years, they do have characteristics that you can not get with an inline 4 or parallel twin. Honda CX's in their day were not a powerful bike, but given there low revving engines with good maintenance, try find a bike as reliable. Used the CX 500 Shadow for many years as a courier bike. Best bike ever made for that job.
Great review and good riding skills on and off the road; I’m 69 years old now returning to riding after 35 years; just ordered a 2022 Centenario V85TT and it sounds like there has been some improvements like tubeless tires and a revamped torque curve to have more low in a min rage power; anxious to get the bike; I also purchased a 2021 V7 850 Special and now having 5000 miles on that really enjoying it also; thanks for the good review John
Smallest bike on the market to fit a cardan final transmission, and the frame has been developed by Aprilia (which belongs, like MG, to the Piaggio Group). Just a couple of extra info to add value to the "package". This is such a great bike, I loved every time I had the chance to try it. But, to me, it's either "Mandello Red" or "Sahara Yellow", really don't like the Travel Edition's livery...
I am an owner and I think your review is pretty fair. I love mine, 10k kilometers within 4 months. Including 14 days through Scottland with a tent and 1000 km on one day on my way home without big pain . Great bike for tours. I am 1.8m and 76kg and it fits perfect.
@Jamie, this is the best V85TT review that I’ve come across. Great job! You really seemed to nail the potential applications of this bike. I love the paintjob on that example as well; a great conversation starter without the Ronald McDonald jokes that would accompany the Red/Yellow/White colour option.
I have a 1995 GS and if I had to replace it I think this bike would be on the shortlist . The MG is not as wizmo-gizmo as the GS and that is fine with me. Nor do I need the shift-cam or clutchless shifting. Long legged for long trips and a fire road or two. I like it. Thanks for sharing
Now that I own it, I have to correct you Jamie. It does like to be rev'd. The light show (rev indicator lights) are set low from the factory and makes it seem like you need to short shift. It will rev happily up to the red line. It perks up bewtween 3500 and 6000 rpms.

Great review from some dude who really knows how to ride off road. This bike is gorgeous and gets 100% with this bigger windshield. I agree about the panel,it coul'd be bigger and in my opinion with a dark frame. I love this bike as the V7 too....
Excellent video. Shaft-drive, air-cooled, plenty of torque, comfy seat at a good height, very nice styling, I'm impressed with this bike. However, at AUD23,500 ride-away, it's up there in price. The $10K difference between my V-Strom 650XT and the V85TT is a lot of travel money. I must admire this bike from afar, at least for now.
This is the new Honda Transalp, the bike good for all. With many plus: shaft-drive, cruise control and no water radiators that can be broken by a rock.
I'm glad you're back on two wheels Jamie. If you could only have one bike in your garage to tour, overnight camp, Sunday Twisties and occasional gravel on, would you choose the Yamaha T7 or the Guzzi? I tend to hang onto my bikes long-term and have had my eyes in both these bikes for a long time. ,😉
This bike have grown on me. At first I was not so keen on the looks. But now I kind of like it. I need to test it for sure. I'm a short rider. 173 cm / 5'8" and most adv bikes are way way to high for me.

A Yorkshireman sayin things like "Gallons" & "Gas". What's that abart?? Great review though great camera work & film footage too. Now I've seen the V85tt ridden proper off road I know it's capable wi sum.decemt intermediate tyres. Yeah! 'Tyres not bloody "Tires" lol. I'm fed up wi chains & chain maintance too. Nobody talks about proper wheel alignment when tightening a chain, which is also a time consuming pain in the arse so a shaft drive removes all that time, effort & worry. Great video -A- tell- Thi! 👏👍

The 2021 model has spoked tubeless rims. Shaves a little weight, too!
A very good review, thank you.
Awesome review, THANK YOU!
My pleasure!
Is there an alternative to the bash plate? The stock one appears to be attached to the exhaust/manifold pipes.
Air cooled and off road ?.
Great review sir, almost perfect.
If only you pronounced Moto Guzzi better 😊
Awesome bike!
Where did you shot those pictures?
great review, Jamie!
msrp...?
I took one out for a demo and didn't want to return it!🤣
No Burgers?? ;) Enjoyed the review nonetheless. Thumbs up!
We see a retiree buying this who wants do some touring including dirt roads on a nit too big, low maintenance bike. They likely haven't rode in years and remember Moto Guzzi from back in the day.
How do you know me?
@@kimfucku8074 And me... lol
Not retired but enjoy traveling on my 2009 norge. camping is dificult at remote spots and would love to have offroad capability. Now all I have to do is convince my riding budy to replace his norge with one so he can follow me into the wilderness. Lots of goat trails here in Sanoma County for local rides. Definitly going to get one . great review. Ride safe Ride free friend.
You’re exactly right I’m 69 just retired haven’t ridden a motorcycle for 35 years and the Moto Guzzi 2021 V7 850 Special I just purchased and purchased the 2022 V85TT Centenario will fit my lifestyle exactly ; you nailed it!
best video ever
Handsome bike lovely exhaust note
But Africa Twin 😊😊
But nearly half the price of the AT/AS
Hondas are dull and boring though. No character. Once you've ridden a guzzi you'll never go back to a Honda.
Yeah! 🏍🇮🇹👍
Me want!!
