Penik's strategy is insanity. Who knows the numbers of football players? That's crazy to me, I couldn't tell you the number of most players. I've never associated jersey numbers with football players. It worked for him, so hats off.

If I were to do this for an old team I would have also gone through starting lineup or by position. I don't think numbers would have been that helpful to me except on specific players.
