- The Santal people (or Santhal) are an Austroasiatic-speaking Munda ethnic group of the Indian subcontinent.
According to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI), the word Santhal is derived from two words: 'Santha' means calm and peaceful; 'ala' means man.
Santhal is mainly agricultural people and is the third largest Scheduled Tribe Community in the country after Gond and Bhil.

Proud to have a President from this tribal community.
And jharkhand base was cnt and spt act.. which was made by British in 1812....after independence there was jharkhand state demand in 1949..but we got fired liike jaliah wala bagh in oddisa..by 😢atl Bihari bjpyi...and forced us to be part of bihar..for almost 50years...and now we are minorities in our own state😢..lots of Bihari setteled here when it was not jharkhand
First Indian freedom fighter was santhal tilka murmu (manjhi ) bramins used to call all sc st manjis).its not mangal pandey...we study wrong history.. why we didn't get place in history...all are from gujrat only...
