So many delicious food in the market, very convenience to buy and bring home for lunch or dinner. Will try it if I go Krabi for holiday. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, really informative for me as I'm planning a stay to Krabi, and this is how I plan eating for my family and I. I love all you vlogs, but this one was really useful so thanks.
First time I'm commenting but my partner and I watch your videos every week on our tv! Your videos always make us hungry 😅 We're planning a trip to Thailand now for next year and love how detailed your videos are. Your son is so cute! Sending love from NZ!
I like how you tell a store about street food. Telling a more complete story makes your vlogs stand out. I thing I would go bananas trying all the food options available. And I can only imagine that cooking at home only if you wanted to control the ingredients like salt, sugar, MSG, and stuff. Thanks
Hehe I love your videos. It's cool to see all these different foods and how they serve them.Always fresh, they definitely take pride in the food. I would want to try everything! So jealous! lol 😉
found your videos tonight and I must say they are very good, also have to add the 2 times I have been sick in Thailand is after eating KFC, love the street food for the most part, few things I don't like but then again who likes everything?,keep up the good work and watch that durian!
Hey Darren 3 I have just come back from Thailand after watching your videos I tried rose apple mangosteen and rambutan mango sticky rice massaman curry tom yum soup pad thai had a great time thanks for all the info
Your videos always make me hungry! I love all the freshness and the varieties you have there. How long have you lived in Thailand because you seem to have mastered the language, the vendors understand what you want. I'm rather impressed with your fluency! Always a thumbs up on your videos!
Watching this at Breakfast time here in Manchester, GB - really appreciate the your of the market, your interaction with traders plus the prices. Such a pleasent, informative vlog, wish I was sat at the table with you devouring that food. plus..... you have the cutest wee boy I have ever seen. Best wishes to you & your family. Thank you for posting this great vlog. David.
I am so envious... you live in a place where eating out is not only cheaper but possibly even more importantly 100x tastier than what I could cook... haha! Look at that selection of beautifully cut fruit, delicious curries etc. (from a warm and wonderful smiling lady 7:50, I'm always so happy when I see how friendly these Thai market vendors are). Even the sweet scene (both fruits and dessert-wise) is top notch in Thailand. 13:46 Man what I would do for that stink bean curry! My mouth waters when I see red-hot curries 14:42 Yummy khao mok gai/nasi biryani And it's all relatively healthy too! Crazy. Would love to say I'm not jealous but I really am!! Also how beautiful is your family, so cute with your lovely wife smiling and your son with the "Cheers" haha! Speaking as someone who was born in M'sia and raised/lives in the UK, you are a very lucky person! :) P.S. Totally agree with you on the market vendors only cooking as much as they think will sell that day. Competition is cut-throat and if someone got sick, there's no way to survive in business because word would get round faster than you can say "Thailand". It's a tough job - food prep/cooking is time-consuming, most of these people are up early buying fresh ingredients and then must spend ages cooking, not to mention then having to sell it later on, I admire them!
Yes, the food is about 100x tastier than what most people could cook, which is another factor that makes it attractive. Yes, your summary is very accurate. They wouldn't last long if someone got sick. And yes, I am rather lucky :), thanks for the nice comments!
Jumping backwards and forwards in time through your video's, handsome boy still a baby in this video. Good to see Suay Orn (sorry about the spelling) a lot more in your more recent video's.... cheer me up in these crappy times. Chok Dee Na Khrap
acouple days i came across ur channel and i must say I love ur videos 😁 .. i like how u include ur wife and son in them ☺ ur son is the cutest lil boy 😊😊 god bless
hello Darren!!! I would like to know if maybe you can do a video on Thai Vegetarian food!! I think it would be interesting to see you taste and comment on vegetarian dishes. 😊
Hi Jan, Yes, it is in the plan, in fact it nearly happened today. I will try to get a video made on that some time this week. Thanks for the suggestion :)
Love your vids :) But got a little put off at around (18:38) when you was taking a bite & what looked like a spider free falling on the left and side of the screen.. Love Thai food & you can not beat the markets for variety & value.
Thank! Yes, it was a spider. I found him a few days later and relocated him. You're absolutely right about the markets in Thailand, I love them too! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Having visited Thailand so many times, I also have personal experiences of Thai street foods or what the vendors sell.. if you believe the foods you would be seeing in a big quantities would be gone within a few hours. Thai people are food loving and every time no matter very early in the morning or late night, you will see people eating. once in Pattaya I was going to have breakfast, I saw a vendor and then I decided to buy some foods, but then I changed my mind to go to McDonals and when I came back in half an hour, the Vendor was gone... She 'd sold everything she had.... I love the Thai foods as well.... and I am going back to Thailand once again.... but after the rainy season....
Darren, I’ve never got the bagged food before, like curry’s etc.... but I’m assuming it’s possible to hear them up in a microwave? It’s all that’s available in hotel room....?
Yes, it's possible to heat the food in a microwave Dave, as I did in this video. I personally wouldn't heat the food in a microwave while it's still in the bag, but cheap plates and bowls are readily available in Thailand. Just look for a shop with plastic buckets and other plastic stuff outside, or go to a supermarket. All the best, Darren
We have Thai food in the mall here in the USA usually, but I hope it’s more authentic like these food here, all they have the same boring Chinese food the only different were they have curry. I also wish they have the fried pork and delicious chicken.
Yes, there are loads of delicious fruits there! The vegetable in the omelet is called "cha-om". In English it is called climbing wattle or pennata wattle. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The food markets probably make more money than most restauranteurs. I was in Phuket last may and every single restaurant was empty and the food markets were packed out.
Chicken breast sate is my favorite at this market. Asked a few times for the ingredients but got shot down every time. Can't find the same sauce in Bangkok.
I've been waiting for you to post a market video with some specific content in order to ask a question. I've seen this asked elsewhere but never answered. What's the deal with the crooked headed fish? Every time I see them it looks like they are giving the 'wai' to someone. lol. BTW, don't know if you caught it during editing but right when you are starting to eat your catfish salad (appx 18:38 mark) a very large spider drops from the ceiling to the floor to the right of your right shoulder. He's fast. First time I viewed I caught just a quick movement so backed up and slowed the video down to frame by frame and there he was. God I hate spiders!!
Lol. The fish is a type of mackerel (short mackerel) I believe they bend the head down so that they can be fitted into round bamboo steamers to be cooked. I hadn't seen the spider in the video until you mentioned it, but I did find and relocate him a few days after the video was made :)
Yes, my apologies. I get hundreds of comments per month and I do try to reply to all of them, but it does take a lot of time. I missed his one somehow and just noticed it when I was looking at the comments on this video. Again, my apologies.
lol...I only wondered about you cooking at home for a nano-second. Why make the mess when delish food is only 10 min away with no mess. So I learned this watching moekbang (Korea) and I was shocked and awed at the same time....when they order take-out (what Americans call it), they get it delivered on decent serving dishes and then they put those dishes outside their door and the delivery person comes back later and picks up the dishes. No kidding! That is also where I learned they have to boil their water or drink bottled...so that may somewhat explain it. The restaurants can easily steam/clean the dishes. A whole bunch of us viewers who don't live in Korea were really overwhelmed by both those pieces of info. Have you been to Korea or heard that????
I've never heard of that regarding the plates. Wow, that is good service! In Thailand the tap water is not the best either, so people drink bottled water here too.
That's awesome ! That's about £800 at current rate in UK costs. Rent/mortgage included ? May i ask ... I heard you say you wiork on one of your vlogs ... What do you do for. Living in Thailand ?
You seem to have missed my point here. They do not sell the food the next day, they make it fresh every day. There was still an hour or more left of trading when I left the market and nearly all of, if not all of, that stuff would sell in that hour. In that hour the things get progressively cheaper, up to the point where often if I buy 4 things they will give me 2 extra things free to get rid of it. I have asked vendors about it in the past and they told me that if they have stuff left over they give it to their families, or friends/neighbours/relatives in order to get rid of it. They are not going to risk selling old food that might make someone sick, because word will travel very quickly and they will soon not have any customers, as their customers will go to the many neighbouring shops. I hope that clears up what I wasn't clear about in the video :)
The only time I have ever had food poisoning in Thailand is after eating at an american takeaway chain, KompletelyFuckedChicken or McSpewburger. The only other cases that I know of are where foreigners go to a mookata (Thai barbecue refer ruclips.net/video/7j-ODk2PAoc/видео.htmlm15s ) restaurant and did not immerse their chop sticks in the soup after using them to put raw chicken on to cook.
Sure, that is important at moo kata to dip your chopsticks in the hot broth after using them to touch raw meat. The last time I had an issue with food was in Australia more than 4 years ago from the same chicken chain.
too much turnover for the food to go bad, and frankly I can almost tell from the vids where care is taken. having said that I'm sure many good places avoided would result on missing some magic? word of mouth alone would be enough incentive to continue to ensure profitability?
So many delicious food in the market, very convenience to buy and bring home for lunch or dinner. Will try it if I go Krabi for holiday. Thanks for sharing.
I think Darren made a great point. These vendors depend on repeat business to survive so they are not going to sell food that'll make people sick.
It's true. Word travels quick here, like everywhere else.
Great video, really informative for me as I'm planning a stay to Krabi, and this is how I plan eating for my family and I. I love all you vlogs, but this one was really useful so thanks.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Any vlog I've seen about Thailand, prepared foods seems so inexpensive and so fresh. I don't think I'd cook often either. Great vlog Darren.
Thanks Janice! I think I cooked about twice in the first year I lived here. It's pretty hard to beat the food you can find here very easily!
Thank U for taking the time to share this😙
First time I'm commenting but my partner and I watch your videos every week on our tv!

Thanks
Thanks a lot! Yes, there are loads of options available, makes it pretty hard to get bored with the food here!
Love this Vdo! Love watching your family have dinner together
Thanks :)
Hehe I love your videos. It's cool to see all these different foods and how they serve them.Always fresh, they definitely take pride in the food. I would want to try everything! So jealous! lol 😉

Thanks a lot! Yes, the last time I had a stomach problem was from the same chain, in Australia.
Hey Darren 3 I have just come back from Thailand after watching your videos I tried rose apple mangosteen and rambutan mango sticky rice massaman curry tom yum soup pad thai had a great time thanks for all the info

Love your vids :) But got a little put off at around (18:38) when you was taking a bite & what looked like a spider free falling on the left and side of the screen.. Love Thai food & you can not beat the markets for variety & value.

It very good food you love your food very fresh healthy foods thank you for sharing your beautiful foods and lots of them you show thanks, 2-1-19-
I will get so big living in Thailand with the convenience and price of the food! 😋
Yes, it's easy to find delicious food here!
18:38 what's that thing climbing down the wall? Big spider?
I'm from Australia .. that's a small spider ;)

Thanks for the comments Muneer, yes, the street food generally goes pretty quickly here. Have a great trip to Thailand!

Many kind of fruits! Looks irresistible to eat! Omelet looks full of onion leaf,i think!~Try Curry soup!~Looks good and smell delicious!
Yes, there are loads of delicious fruits there! The vegetable in the omelet is called "cha-om". In English it is called climbing wattle or pennata wattle. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ohhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The food markets probably make more money than most restauranteurs. I was in Phuket last may and every single restaurant was empty and the food markets were packed out.
Yes, they're pretty much always busy at the markets, no low season there!
Chicken breast sate is my favorite at this market. Asked a few times for the ingredients but got shot down every time. Can't find the same sauce in Bangkok.
Yes, people are usually protective of their recipes here I've noticed. It is their livelihood I guess.
I've been waiting for you to post a market video with some specific content in order to ask a question. I've seen this asked elsewhere but never answered. What's the deal with the crooked headed fish? Every time I see them it looks like they are giving the 'wai' to someone. lol. I did exactly the sme roflmbo!!!!
Lol. The fish is a type of mackerel (short mackerel) I believe they bend the head down so that they can be fitted into round bamboo steamers to be cooked. I hadn't seen the spider in the video until you mentioned it, but I did find and relocate him a few days after the video was made :)
Wow, you must really be behind in video responses. I posted this 3 1/2 months ago. After a couple of weeks, I figured I'd never get a response.
Yes, my apologies. I get hundreds of comments per month and I do try to reply to all of them, but it does take a lot of time. I missed his one somehow and just noticed it when I was looking at the comments on this video. Again, my apologies.
Look aroy mak mak 😋
did you have to reheat the dishes before eating?
sorry ..i asked before i watched the whole video
No worries :). Thanks for watching!
i cannot eat salt or sweet,[hi blood presser ] is there some dishes you could you would recommend ?
Boiled eggs or plain rice is about all I can think of. Nearly everything in Thailand has a combination of sweet, salty, spicy & sour.
craig vietor Put peeled garlic in a Mason Jar with water in fridge. Drink water in sips, and use cloves for breath, or peppermint.
im going to phuket for in 2/2/2017 for 22 day
Pluto K.Simpsons You will enjoy there.
lol...I only wondered about you cooking at home for a nano-second. I've never heard of that regarding the plates. Wow, that is good service! In Thailand the tap water is not the best either, so people drink bottled water here too.
I know....and I'm still not sure someone wasn't pulling our legs about the pick up. So on your 'next mission' could you check it out? J/K
i will be moving at the end of this year
I hope your move goes well!
Interesting how well they sold out.
Yes, they plan it pretty well!
What are the equivalent to US currency?
USD 1 = 35 baht
Thank you
Is that your family? How much you spend per/month to live in Thailand?
Yes, that is my family. We spend around about 35,000 baht per month.
35k .. is that just for food a month or for all living costs ?
That's for all living costs.
That's awesome ! That's about £800 at current rate in UK costs. Rent/mortgage included ?
May i ask ... I heard you say you wiork on one of your vlogs ... What do you do for. Living in Thailand ?
Yes, that's for all living costs, including rent. I work here as an English teacher.
Lots of foods left they can not sell it! What they gonna do? sell it for tomorrow!~
I hope that clears up what I wasn't clear about in the video :)
Oh! Fresh every days! Nice!!~ Sell so good! I believe! Hey! Neat!
When you go back to Aussie take ur family to New Zealand.
I'll try. I've heard lots of great things about NZ!

In the north prices seem a lot higher. Foe exam
For example the satay sticks for 20 Baht will be 100.
That is very expensive!
👍👍👍😘
😂 ahh. 😂😂
too much turnover for the food to go bad, and frankly I can almost tell from the vids where care is taken. having said that I'm sure many good places avoided would result on missing some magic? word of mouth alone would be enough incentive to continue to ensure profitability?
Yes, things sell pretty quickly at the markets and word of mouth is definitely a big thing here, as in other places.
:-)
I haven't visited Thailand in many years but eating was always one of my favourite pasttimes.
Yes, Thailand is a great place to visit if you love food!
