She is wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean clothes, but modernized as they always use to be bright colours.
She has been around far longer than Dimash, she is 42 (I think 38 here) he is only 26. She is not well known because she has always refused to sign up to any large label, and she has been asked more than once. She sings for God and to comfort people. I love the violin player too, she is Sue Son who appeared on Britains Got Talent 2009 if you want to look that up.

In 1998, at the age of twenty, So hyang was diagnosed with uterine cancer; due to the early detection, she was able to survive the cancer, but was rendered infertile. According to So hyang, her goal is to use her voice to comfort people who are going through difficult times. So hyang is also an author of fiction, who has published multiple fantasy novels since 2013, the most well-known of them being Crystal Castle and Anaxion.
Wonderful reaction! "Arirang" is a very old Korean folk song with great significance to all of the Korean people. This nostalgic song was passed down from past generations, from a time when Korea was united, and is a simple life story of the Korean people. It speaks of love, sadness, farewells from loved ones, and overcoming hardships from Korean wars and other conflicts. It also speaks of the small happinesses found in everyday life, being as one in their hearts together, and hoping for a better future. This song could be viewed as an anthem of a united Korea. You can tell how important this song is to So Hyang. She puts her heart and soul into her performance.
I agree with you; I am so glad I discovered So Hyang in September of 2019. She is a musical blessing from God. In fact, she is the closest thing I have found to a supernatural musical experience! She was about 37 when she sang this song and is now 42 though in Korean culture she is 43 because you are considered to be one year old when you are born. She had uterine cancer just after she got married at 19 and as a result can never have children. So she decided to become a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer. She chose Christianity when she was a teenager.
The violinist is Sue Son. She was born in South Korea but moved to the UK with her parents when quite young. She went back to South Korea in her 20s and is now established in their music industry. Quite a talent, isn't she? And she also is a Christian, which is not all that common in South Korea.

The song is a traditional folk song considered the national anthem of both Koreas, played at events where both Koreas are represented. I admire the great technical skills of Asian singers in general. They work very hard and show lots of dedication during their years of training and it shows.
I love listening to Sohyang singing. I have shifted my direction from Dimash to Sohyang because she is a soulful singer. She is a cancer survivor and devoted Christian. She doesn't go for wealth and fame but to inspire and comfort people with her singing. She is my fav singer and inspire me. She arranged all her songs as her own. Go listen her sing :

I'm not sure if there was others that called her the female version of Dimash but... that was definitely me!!! I'm so glad you reacted to her. She has so much control, and many vocal textures just like Dimash. To be honest, Lara Fabian and Dimash have more in common than So Hyang I think because of them singing in different languages, breath control, and the emotional side of the performance but... just something about how she executes the music reminds me of Dimash. She's a "take me to church" singer. She is a Christian gospel singer and her specialty is her mixed voice belting. She has an incredible backstory... and could be more famous but has turned down many contracts. So Hyang and Dimash are very different. I’m glad that the world can have both of them. Dimash is really the representative of popera, a new genre pushed to an unbelievably high level by Dimash. So Hyang is different. She has a very special place in my heart that she is a great mixture of a Gospel singer, a good portion of Mariah Carey, a little Celine Dion and a Korean pop singer and her super bright mixed voice high up in the 5th octave just killed me every time. Her live performances have generally been arranged very well (a lot by her own idea I heard) and she always ALWAYS gives you some surprise in a song but still with a very solid tone throughout the entire song. She has too many good performances to recommend, both in English and in Korean. Just roll your dice and you won’t be disappointed.

So happy that you reacted to So Hyang. So Hyang is amazing. She sings to give thanks. She is a cancer survivor. Also, she doesn't perform for commercial/financial reasons and you might notice that she performs at smaller venues. Also, I believe she performed for Korea's Masked Singer shows, similar to Dimash performing on China's Masked Singer show.

She is 42 now (born in 1978) and was 38 or 39 when this show was aired.
The competition she took part was called Immortal songs and it was in Korea. Dimash took part in chinese Singer.

The original "I Am a Singer "is a South Korean show. The Chinese TV show that Dimash (2017) and Jesse J, KZ Tandiagan , Hua Chenyu (2018) performed is a different show and was also called "I Am a Singer", but was later renamed as "Singer". Hua Chenyu won the show in 2020.

SoHyang Kim has always struggled with her health during her
lifetime with those many illnesses..
uterine cancer, hepatitis, chronic pneumonia, etc.. The night she sung You Raise Me Up
She just got out of Hospital and was advised Not to sing...So she did that....lol
It's really a miracle this one of the most skilled vocalist of all time could be
in such poor condition. And definitely she is much more than great technician
and has Perfect Control of Her Gift...and Her singing is so special.
So Being a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. But is an Amazing Artist
who gave up a Kpop career to sing for the Lord and for the Love of Music instead of stardom.
She learned English as a Child from Disney Movies, which inspired her to Write two of her
Books...(both Published and there are more).
Also And Publicly thanks Marey Carey for teaching her everything she Knows about Music ...
that is some Testament to The Power of Music

Thank you for this reaction. I can see how genuinely moved you were in watching Sohyang's Arirang Alone. I am actually very impressive by how quickly you sense what makes Sohyang special. "...compassion, goodness and love" These are qualities you find in Sohyang, not just in her music but in her life. You are a very perceptive person. As a devout Christian, she has been supporting ministry work all her life and she said that the purpose of her singing is to bring consolation and comfort to those in need. The message comes out loud and clear in her performances.
Glad you made your acquaintance through Dimash. Both Dimash and Sohyang are examples of great talent and disciplined hard work to make themselves so distinguished in their craft. They are both recognized for their tremendous vocal ability and dominating stage presence. However, you will find each with their own set of special attributes in time. I am tempted to go on but it's probably better not to deprive you of the joy to discover them on your own.
Sohyang has many notable performances available on the web. I'd suggest Bridge Over Troubled Water, Everyone, Your Raise Me Up (2018 rendition) and Lean On Me first.
BTW, appreciate your comment for youth today to find direction and focus on polishing their skill in their chosen field. However, in spite of her youthful appearance, Sohyang is 42 years old today. She performed this stage about five ago.

A rearrangement of an old folk song, which for some has taken on the meaning of a hope for the reunification of the 2 Koreas. Since surviving cancer, she sings to comfort people, and usually picks songs that can have a spiritual dimension. She also sings in English without a trace of an accent, and could be a worldwide star if that was her ambition - but it doesn't seem to be.
Finally 😍😍😍!!!! Thank u to have listened to me 🤣 (and others of course 😘)!! Love her so much and I finally I would say that Di is the female version of So cause she debuted earlier (my apologize 😅 but it was to get your attention 😘)! Now you’ll have to listen to lean on me, bridge over troubled water and you raise me up (guaranteed thrills 😍)! Gotta get to work 😎💪🏼!! ❤️u! Fun fact : So and Di participated to Mask Singer 🐱🦁! This performance was not all she has to offer,it was just that particular week of the show it was given to traditional korean music,which is why she was wearing a hanbok(trad.korean dress).This song has become somewhat of an unofficial korean anthem as it is about that one day the north & south korea will one day reunite & become one, but it sounds very unlike so hyangs version as it is usually a simple folk song,but it has been made in to this more 'anthemic' piece by so hyang's amazing arrangement (so hyang does all the arrangements for the songs she performs). Maybe you should react to one of her performances of songs you may already know so you can see just how amazing her ability to make a song her own through her mastery of both vocals & arranging. She is 42 now but was 39 in this video. I suggest next either 'bridge over troubled water' or 'lean on me' both from the show 'immortal songs 2' just to acclimatise your ears!!! & then,like Dimash there are so many fantastic performances for you to see. Although her heart is in gospel music,she can sing any genre, obviously the ballads but she can sing pop,jazz,rock & in one particular episode when she was on the show 'king of masked singer' she can even be seen rapping!!

For more mind bending, her versions of 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' (KBS Kpop), "I Have Nothing', 'Lean On Me', or 'Misty' (and many others) are second to no one's performances of all time. She is that great. She hits the center of every note, but how she gets there is an incredibly joyful ride!
Try "It is only my world. Day Day. Misty. I will always love you." You will see her Rock, Rap, Blues and Balad at its best. As for her best arrangement, "Everyone & Lean on me" are the pinnacle of her works. This is why she is quite different than others. Not just vocal ability but her musicality is another level.
She is Sohyang, No need to compare. She is unique and on the league of her own. The Diva in this era.

[Recommended] Among Korean singers, "BTS. Black fink" and K-Pop are not the only young singers. There are so many singers with good vocal skills such as "Sohyang. Forestella. Park ki young, Ha hyunwoo. Park hyo shin".
Been following for awhile but I more recently got discovered So Hyang, and hold her up there with Dimash and Angelina Jordan in the top tier, but all for different reasons. I hopep you do more of her + show Henri as well! :)

Dimash is a sound that is practiced, not an emotion-controlled sound. Sohyang is a direction to express emotions. So the quality of the sound controlled by emotion is different. You should be aware of this difference.
