Thanks mate ! This worked perfectly for me. So glad I got another 3-4 years of wear out of my favourite smartwatch ahead of me now, in 2022! Originally bought it in 2017 and still think it's nicer looking than Apple Watch that all my mates wear. You're a legend.
Thanks! Also when you said "a little difficult to remove" the battery.. was an understatement lol.. it was a little puffy and DID NOT want to come out lol
Hey man, really appreciate this video; it was really helpful. When I went to change my battery the old one was fully inflated. So to you other hwatch owners I definitely recommend replacing your watch battery now.
This is a great video! My experience of replacing the battery after following this video: 1. as someone already pointed out, make sure you pry the grey seal out, NOT in between the metal and grey seal 2. be patient removing the battery. Mine was bloated and sticky to the bottom, so took some effort to remove. After that it is all smooth sailing In a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most difficult DIY, I say this is 2 or 3, relatively easy.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for your video I was able to replace my battery just fine. It has been long overdue for a replacement and had little capacity left, I'm usually really bad at doing things like this but the video was so easy to follow. One thing I had a little difficulty with was opening the back but I incorrectly assumed I needed to prise between the grey seal and metal casing when in fact you prise from under the grey seal. Now I'm going to to treat it to a new strap and a custom firmware to enable the other cpu cores because it is a touch too slow. I went to the trouble with all this because this is still one of the most elegant and beautiful wearos devices that's good for smaller wrists. If it had NFC it would still be as good as the brand new budget models out in 2021!
I just wanted to update my comment to say that I didn't go for a custom firmware to unlock the extra core because there isn't one for WearOS 2.35. Enabling the developer options and turning off all animations has literally supercharged the watch and it's never been so responsive and quick to use.
Worked like a charm. Thank you for the clear and straightforward instructions. One issue I had was one of the ribbon cables sneaked under the new battery before I put it there. It wasn't until after I replaced the 2 screws holding the motherboard that I realized one of the ribbon cables went MIA lol. Other than that, worked great!
Nice, but I need to go that one step further. I stupidly left my watch with time display always on, and apart from being heavy on battery, the screen is now burnt with the watch face. I need to change the screen. The screen come with a new case, but it seems there will be a problem changing the button over, and a special tool will be needed. At least so says Ali. A video of a screen and case change would be good.
Hi, I'm a little late to the party, but you said that you screen suffered burn in, because you used always on? Is that because you had a custom clock? I have always used always on, but this so far hasn't happened (I thought the face that the clock always moves stopped this). Also, has anyone tried a larger battery capacity?
These had an ip6x something rating to begin with, but not sure how. I expected more adhesion getting into the case then I encountered. Won't be swimming with it, knowing what I've seen inside now.
Damn...can't find the battery anywhere. I would really like to replace the battery as this is the only good looking smartwatch and not much is new in wear os anyway.
I replaced the battery but watch does not boot up. When I put on charger cradle, it boots up and go to battery level 100 percent in 3-4 min. When I remove the watch from cradle, it shuts off. Do you know if replaced battery could be wrong one or something I have missed?
Good vid but my battery was externally glued to the back of the screen. Tried so carefully to remove it but the removal had damaged the screen and I can't find a replacement unfortunately. 😭
Anyone got some advice with bootloop after i changed the battery in the watch? Also the battery shows like 80% and then shows low battery and restarts, then it gets into the boot loop, it drives me nuts
I was able to switch the battery out "successfully" because when i closed it back up i can feel a vibration. Unfortunately though the screen wont turn on 😭😭😭 send help!!!

Grey seal was stuck and broke as I pried it out. Must have been too old to fix. :(

According to ifixit it's a torx T3, but they also list T2, so it's not 100% clear. Edit: I tested. It's a T2.
