Mitch, thank you for doing a video of a bathroom countertop with the backsplash, faucet and drain as part of the process. This helped fill in some areas I struggled with understanding.
I did this process in a similar manner without the ultimate top coat on a guest bathroom sink over a year ago. The issue I had was when I reinstalled the faucet and a little of the silicon squeezed out around the base of the faucet and onto the epoxy countertop. I tried to remove the silicon to no avail. Due to the epoxy recommendations I couldn’t use certain chemicals to remove the silicon without possibly damaging the epoxy. The info online states you can use a razor blade to very gently skim off the silicon. However, I found that it still created tiny scratch-like marks on the epoxy no matter how easy I went and I created a more jagged texture.
When I reached out to the company I was told I could redo the entire process. In my mind that doesn’t solve the issue if I have the same problem occur again with excess silicon (I’m not a professional plumber and I sadly don’t have the experience in this area to be spot-on with how much silicon to use).
Over a year later I still have a slight rubbery silicon look around the base of the faucet that catches debris and constantly looks dirty.
Q: What can I use or can be done to address the issue of removing excess silicon around the faucet without damaging the epoxy?
Side note: The same thing happened when I installed the sink drain and stopper. However, your video provided me with the guidance I need for future projects so this doesn’t occur again - use a Dremel to clear out the excess epoxy in the opening of the drain (I had used a rasp which is more time consuming) and also use plumber’s putty around the inner edge of the drain before installing. Thank you for this detailed video showing real issues that occur and pro tips to use for a successful epoxy project.

In my bathroom experiences of refinishing cultured marble bathroom countertops, using two coats of epoxy are required. You sometimes have textured paint particles falling on the first coat of fresh epoxy when removing the tape and sheeting. Also, the back splashes need more then one coat to be smoother and have better coverage. Always go with two or three paint colors to get the best looking results.

I'd like to join with @Erika LaVonn in requesting a video project of resurfacing a solid shower or bathtub. I have a very large cultured-marble spa tub that has developed some tiny pits and some cracks. I have always assumed that an epoxy refinish was unworkable but your sink project here gives me a spark of hope.

I have a one piece shower surround/tub in lovely 70's harvest gold. I like it ( no grout, no seams, no mildew) but hate the outdated color. Have you ever done one of those? Can it be done? Would it take an impossible amount of epoxy?

My counter like this has caulking between that backsplash and the counter. I couldn’t tell if this one did. Should that be fully removed and filled with bondo? Or will it work without removing it?
Also, I’d love to see an example of this done with pouring colors!

Q: What of I want to Not get any of the exess with the dry rollers? And just spreading the exess to even it out, for more protection? What would the Pros and Cons would be? I want things "bullet proof" but also a nice uniform finish, would that be possible? Would it take a long time to dry? Any bubble danger?
I have a double bathroom sink/vanity that I want to redo in the future. The sinks are drop in style. Can I do this with the sinks in place or should I remove them and coat them separately? The countertop is laminate and the si is are composite I believe.

Can you mix in glitter or the powders for a dimensional look? Can you stop at one coat of epoxy and go straight to the ultimate top coat?
Beautiful 'update'. But, interestingly, the pattern/design reminds me of the formica tops on my desk at school in the 1960's. I always thought the pattern was pretty.
This patteren has depth to it that the old formica topped desks did not, so an improvement none the less.
How do you do this for a sink that is glued in under cabinet. I want to tape the line between the counter and sink but when would you peel the tape off but will not flow into the sink?

I want to flip a dresser or buffet into a bathroom vanity. My plan is to use Stoncoat on the top. I know that on most the tops can come off so you can work on the base separately. Will stonecoat be effective on the to on a dresser or buffet when prepared correctly.

I have both a kitchen and a bathroom counter top project that I’m getting ready to purchase your products for. However, I’m confused about “The Ultimate Top Coat”. The best I can tell from watching and listening to you is that it is an additional (in this case, a 3rd) application of the Epoxy.
I am pretty sure that both the Epoxy coats one and two and “The Ultimate Top Coat” mixture of A and B.

I have an old countertop thats similar but it has a lip at the edge that peaks creating this little valley. How do I handle that with epoxy? Won't it all pool there?
Is the end result smooth and shiny like the epoxy was or does it have a texture?
Smooth if surface is level and if applied before it begins to set. So make sure it’s level and you put it on quickly and evenly.

I have a house built in the 70s, cultured marble with molded in sink, your vid shows me how to do it, but my question is, it has a built in medicine cabinet on side wall, looks like laminate, i think doing the door would be just a matter of taking it off and laying flat, but how do i do the vertical casing of the cabinet, which sticks out 2 1/2 inches, will the epoxy run,sag on vertical surface

I have been using Stone coat for a few years now, my last order was the 3 gal kit of the supercast deep pour epoxy. The large resin jugs had hard solidified pieces of resin in the bottom of these brand new jugs and parts of the bottom layer of resin were thick and goopy.
Not impressed with my last order. I wonder if they are having quality control issues!

Maybe this idea is crazy, but I wonder if doing the sink bowl separately, masking and using a *different* finish, would give an undermount appearance that was even slightly convincing. You could leave a lip at the top that was the same finish as the counter, so the final look appeared to be a perfect size/alignment match between the "sink" and the "counter". It would look far more convincing if a slight overhang could be built up using a bendable plastic strip (like a very thick veneer) and bondo to blend it in with the countertop.

Hi Mitch, big fan of SCC, but not really into this particular look.
i agree, i think it needed something more to it, not just clear coating after the speckles. perhaps more layers of different colored speckles for depth or some more dye to do a bit of an exotic pour to fake a more updated marble look
@@shoyrushoyru I was more curious as to why he didn’t change the color much. You’d think he would have wanted to lightened it up. Really all he did was go from swirls to specks. Not that big a change. Plus I’ve never really been a fan of speckled stone on counter tops.
I’d like to have seen it go white with black and grey veins or make it black with white veins.
Maybe throw some gold flakes in it.
If doing it for a client, he would be working with instructions on what they wanted.

What does PLASTIC OFF mean? What step is that? Is it the first step BEFORE or AFTER prepping & cleaning the vanity? That's one thing u weren't really clear on!?
Plastic off is him referring to putting the plastic over the cabinets so the resin doesn’t stick to the cabinets. Just a term for covering something with plastic
Why so many steps after the bonding primer and stone coat spray? All the other videos I've seen you just do the epoxy, heat and let it sit overnight and then MAYBE, one more coat and no sanding.
Because the stone spray is 3D so the vertices edges the stone spray may not be coated evenly with epoxy so another coat is needed. The sanding depends on how long you wait between coats.

Great project but too much explanation before the example. Just the example of plenty.
Not knocking the end product, because it looks great, but as a spray refinisher, I can get an equally good look in only 1 day...spending 3-4 days on a vanity project is just not cost or labor efficient. Probably ok for the homeowners personal project but in the service industry, this method will lose you money.
