If me saying “Yes he(William) does (assuming by his facial expression after answering Michael’s question, “Do you even regret anything?”)” is correct, then why is he "manipulating" them into thanking that his is a bad person/un-regretting person? (For example: He said “No…not really. I didn’t know I should regret anything.” (After he change his face expression.), and then changed his expression (again) to (back to) being regretful.)
I’d say he’s too prideful or something. At this point, he’s far too deep in to show his regret. In his eyes, anyway.
It could also be that he knows it wouldn’t do anything anymore, to show them that he’s regretful. What I mean by this is he knows they won’t change their mind about him. Or he’s emotionally constipated. Who knows, maybe being a serial killer and cheating death way too many times causes emotional constipation.
This is all just hypothetical, of course. Maybe he just doesn’t understand himself. It’s entirely possible that he convinced himself there’s nothing for him to regret, but in reality, he’s just in denial.
Or, more likely, Michael made him feel a little guilty. It’s clear William still loves his children, so it’s only natural he feels at least a little guilty.
