  • This cheap cordless electric chainsaw is powered by two 18v Makita batteries. It has a 16-inch chain and a tool-less chain tensioning system.

Over time, electric chainsaws have improved a lot. They have become more efficient and, in the same time, cheaper. Today, there are many Chinese made chainsaws, which are not only good alternatives to the expensive brands, but some of them are also compatible and operate with the batteries of famous brands, such as, Makita, DeWalt and Milwuakee.
This cordless electric chainsaw is not made by Makita, but it works with two 18-volt Makita batteries. I am using the biggest capacity Makita has to offer for the 18V LXT series, which is the 6Ah. The chainsaw is surprisingly good. It cuts through wood pretty fast and, thanks to the big capacities of the batteries, it cuts for a long time, before it stops.
I made a mistake while testing it and forgot to check the chain tension. As a result, the 16 inch chain escaped the bar and got bend. After that, it wasn’t fitting in the bar very well, so I had to buy a new chain. Since I couldn’t find the same chain size in my local store, and I didn’t want to wait, I bought a new bar along with a new chain. The new bar and chain are smaller, but this is actually beneficial, since the motor doesn’t stress that much and the batteries last longer.
The new chain is also sharper, which improves the wood cutting capabilities even more, as you will see in the video review. Using this battery powered cordless chainsaw, I managed to cut all of the wood for the winter, which is 12 m³ (3.31 cords) of beech wood.

Really enjoyed this review. I've been looking for a good reliable cordless chainsaw on the cheaper side to prepare wood for winter. Seems like this is at the top 5. Thanks again.

    @@@@@@@@@@
My wife has that exact electric chainsaw model, and it works great.
Why would my wife need a chainsaw? Good question.
We often go camping in Wyoming. And right now, 70% of the trees are dead. They’ve been dead for about 10-years now due to the pine beetle epidemic. And, they are falling over all the time blocking roads.
I’m retired and often go off camping during the week. My wife joins me on the weekends because she still works. Big trees fall on the roads and trails. I have a Makita 16-inch chainsaw. But my wife needed a saw too. The beauty of a battery chainsaw is that they don’t stink up the car with gasoline fumes.
My wife has cut trees that are 30-inches in diameter with her 16-inch bar saw. She has wedges and tow straps. She simply cuts section out of the tree the width of her Rav4 and uses a tow strap to drag the log out of the way.
The only problem we have with this model of chainsaw is that the chain oil-er does not work well. We have a squirt bottle to manually oil the chain. That seems to work. But, the saw cuts well. Also get an Oregon chain for it. The Chinese chain works but, it cuts slower than an Oregon chain.
I'm glad someone reviewed this chainsaw.

  • @moisty254

Is it fairly quiet? Does it oil the chain well?
And does the bar and tensioner hold the chain fairly well?

    • @reviewthecheapest
      @reviewthecheapest  7 месяцев назад +1

It's a lot quieter than the gasoline ones. My neighbours are grateful :) It does oil the chain well. If you get the 6mAh batteries you will be able to cut a lot of wood before they die, and when they do, it's time for a break anyway, so they die just on time. The tensioner holds the chain well, however, after the first tightening I start cutting, then soon after that, I need to stop and tighten it a little bit more, perhaps because the chain gets loosened when it's hot, and then it's good for the rest of the cutting session.

Cordless Electric Chainsaw is good. It moves quite fast through the wood and thanks to the large power of the battery, it can be explained for a long time to stop.

    • @reviewthecheapest

This is true, but I use them on my other Makita tools, so it's worth it. Plus, you can get smaller capacity batteries, or even some Chinese made ones, for fraction of the price, and still get the job done. It will just take few more rechargings of the batteries.

@@reviewthecheapest they have done extesnsive testing on knock off batteries.. like 90 percent of the time when you buy a 5 amp hour battery your getting around 2.5 amp hours with smaller and lower quality cells that producse less power... they are fine for things like Lights, or speakers, or anything that doesnt require torque.. and putting the dogs in with a chainsaw and having a tree pinch requires about the most torque I can think of.

Video should be titled “How to use a chainsaw with maximum risk”. No safety gear, head and body directly in the arc of the kickback zone, cutting fully intact tree trucks on the ground with the bar pinched under pressure. Oh, and all the while using a 'cheap' chainsaw with a fake kickback brake. Still apart from that all good. Go buy one if you like living dangerously, possibly wanting to end your days horribly in a forest or wood yard. Plus point: great (genuine) Makita batteries.

    • @reviewthecheapest

You are describing a very pessimistic scenario my friend :) You should be more possitive towards life. Sure, my technique is far from perfect, but it's getting better. The chainsaw, although cheap, is getting the job done pretty fast and efficiently. As for the brake, with electric chainsaws, the chain stops spinning the moment you lift your finger of the trigger, si it's not as important. This year I have cut 10 cubic meters of wood, once again, so I am set for the winter :)

I dont get it Makita litterally just came out with a 40v battery powered microwave.. they have fridges.. coffee makers.. backpack batter packs (large ones) but they still have the same basic ass 18v batterys that look like they are knock offs from a cheap company in china.. like there is no ruber over molding to keep them from breaking when dropped, why doesnt the tool inovation trickle down to the batteries.. shit they only have like 2, 4 and what maybe a 6 amp hour battery.. when all other brands are putting out 12 amp hour batterys for chop sawas and stuff.. the line of Makita tools where there are two 18v batterys just slapped next to each other is the most gheto shit ive ever seen.. especially because they were already releasing the 40v/80v platform down unda
