That one game which mastered the art of being dumb as hell and genius at the same time.
Not many games can pull off shit like that.
The cheesy dialogue, the absurd action set pieces and then the brutality when it needs it... it's a massive departure from the Metal Gear I know, but it's got my attention that's for sure. :D

LOL I kind of like that it told me nothing and then made me fight a weapon of mass destruction! xD

Knowing what came next made that so satisfying
The fact that you learned how to properly parry in the tutorial puts you above a good chunk of the people who played this, and it's gonna come in real handy though the game.
Nice!! I underestimated the combat, it's a lot more skill-based than I expected and EVERYTHING is so damn satisfying to do!
@@RockyRockhead yeah there's several fights that are incredibly difficult if you can't perfect parry, but hey, you can parry multiple attacks back to back as long as you time each correctly. Also the color of the shine that you see determines if you can parry it. Some are grabs, others are just really heavy attacks that if parried mitigate most damage but not all.
Raiden was never made "into a real boy" at the end of MGS4, he simply had synthetic skin covering his cyborg body
None of the ost is copyrighted, and its so freakin amazing as well
It really fits with the tone of the game, I'm ready for whatever the game throws at me! xD
Here's a little thing worth hearing, maybe.
MG Ray being the tutorial boss is this game's way of showing that Metal Gears are literally becoming outdated, being replaced by cyborgs and whatnot.
It's even conveyed in the lyrics of Rules of Nature
"A predator on the verge of death, close to its last breath."
oh, also you can parry literally any attack in this game. the exclusion being whenever an enemy glows yellow while attacking
Parry and block as much as possible as much of the combat is built around it. Even things like the swing of a metal gear's arm or its foot crushing you can be parried. I think you started to notice it but the enemy will have a flashing red light that indicates they're about to attack and can be blocked/parried. Later on you'll need to do quick consecutive blocks against fast attacking enemies so getting the hang of using it is a must
Also you can use free blade mode to slash at missiles flying towards you to blow them up as an alternative to dodging, they often end up dropping health for you too if you deal with them that way
If you feel you need to practice there's extra unlockable VR training missions and you can always replay any mission you've played before which can get you more points to upgrade Raiden's abilities too
I was not expecting such skill-based gameplay... looks like I'm going to have to get good

This feels like god of war on acid and I love it omg, the slicing mechanic is so good, I've never seen such a fun unique mechanic, I want it in more games

I recommend listening to the codec calls from time to time, they have a lot of interesting discussions and world building. And they also answer a lot of questions that you might have, like why Raiden has red blood.
Ahhhh nice, I shall try and do that.... I can't let this game force me into a frantic pace all of the time, I gotta slow it down and see what little details it has to offer. :D
Actually the music isn’t Copyright claimed, it has specifically been produced for the game and is a major part of the games soundtrack because the music has background info about every boss. So it’s worth listening to the Lyrics.
Blade mode refers to when you plant your feet and start slashing wildly. My recommendation is that you hit the left trigger as soon as you see a flash of blue as it typically leads to slowmo moments.

Oh hell yes, i’m gonna love this series. By the way, one thing that’s stayed the same is the importance of codec calls. It’s not always important to the plot, but there’s a lot of good dialogue in each area, sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, sometimes important, and others, just them goofing off. Either way, give ‘em a listen!

Hey Rocky, your free blade mode (the same button you use when pausing time) is also great for knocking projectiles out of the air and getting through other defenses. Make sure to master it as you WILL need it.
It seems I have a lot to learn about free blade mode... could i have used it to destroy the missiles from metal gear ray?
@@RockyRockhead yes. They can be sliced in flight, or if the missile is sticking in the ground, you can slice it normally without it blowing in your face. Hehe

Theme of battle with metal gear "Rules of Nature" don't have copyright so don't worry.
If you liked the Metal Gear RAY fight's OST, you'll love all of the other bosses themes. They all have lyrics that represent their character. Rules Of Nature was alluding to the fact that even though the RAY is a massive war machine (Represented as The Hunter), it was still outplayed by Raiden (Who is the Agile Prey) as represented in the lyrics "The Hunter and the Agile Prey, No guarantee which one of them will succeed, strong or weak!" I'll put spoilers down below in case you want to know more about their personalities
*SPOILERS*
Blade Wolf/LQ-84i's theme "I'm My Own Master Now" is all about how Wolf was created as an A.I purely to fight, instead of being able to choose what he wanted to do, Which is represented in the lyrics "Born, into a pack, There's no choice, but take orders to attack." At the end of the fight, we hear Wolf trying to figure out what 'Freedom' is with the quote of "Directive... liberate Nation... ensure freedom... Obey directive... must obey directive... no freedom... freedom undefined...", and at the end of the game, he states that he has learned to think for himself, and was able to create his own directives, which is represented by the title of the song and some of the lyrics
Mistral's theme "A Stranger I Remain" is all about Mistral's desire to kill. She was orphaned as a child, but managed to kill her parents murderers. After that, she decided that killing was her calling so she joined the French Foreign Legion, but eventually got bored because she had no cause to fight for, while her opponents did. Eventually, this led to her joining Desperado Enforcement LLC, which gave her a cause to fight for while still being able to kill, as represented by the lyrics "I've finally found what i've been looking for! A place where i can be without remorse!"
Monsoon's theme "Stains of Time" is all about his ideals and his view of the world. He sees the free will as "a myth" and calls religion "a joke" and "that we're all controlled by something greater: Memes, the DNA of the soul!"
Sundowner's theme "Red Sun" shows his love for war. For him, War is peace, which is represented by the Lyrics "Only Love is with us now, something warm and pure, Find the peace/Violence breeds within ourselves, no need for a cure" He believes that War is the only way to truly further and speed up the economy, as well as being a greedy bastard
Jetstream Sam/Samuel Rodrigues' theme "The Only Thing I Know For Real" is about how he is unsure of what he truly fights for, Represented by the lyrics "Looking downwards from this deadly height, and never realising why i fight!" and the fact that he originally was fighting against armstrong, before he was essentially forced into working for him. Before he fights Raiden, he leaves a message in his sword, basically telling Wolf that if Raiden kills him, than Murasama (the name of his sword) should be given to Raiden as his final last ditch effort to bring Armstrong down. And with Murasama, Raiden finally stood a chance against Armstrong, and manages to chip away at his Nanomachines, son! enought to grab his heart and rip it out of his chest.

Hey Rocky, I'd encourage you to look into the ost a bit. Each boss has their own unique song that goes into their motivation. Rules of Nature, for example, is about the struggle for survival between a large, powerful predator (clearly alluding to MG Ray) and its smaller prey (Raiden), and how the smaller prey has to be faster and smarter to survive. Being larger and stronger doesn't mean a certain outcome, as MG Ray's destruction shows.

Metal Gear Rising is like a hilariously exaggerated action anime that used MGS ideas, and it is so damn fun. :)
I just noticed watching through again that they can afford to reattach raidens arm and give him a new suit but hes just chillin with a rag on his eye xD

You could parry most of rays attacks and watching you not know that hurt me more than any physical pain I have ever felt.
That's the part of blind let's plays that people have forgotten about... the player not knowing and making mistakes. :P

@@RockyRockhead ahaha - admittedly they never tell you - it's right stick click, just like most slashers. You talkin about Augment mode? That's to see enemies, supplies and slashable stuff through walls, though it deactivates in combat. You can also use it to scan for enemies with valuable right hands to cut off
Borus kept saying use 'void mode' to get rid of the missiles... while I was fighting ray... I had no idea what he was talking about. xD
But thanks for letting me know how to lock on... I think that will help me slash in the right direction. xDDD

Yes but that’s also *if* they hit and you are planted to the ground and it does minuscule damage compared to light or heavy attacks. Free mode should be relegated to slicing up peeps who become vulnerable.

This version only has red blood, everyone has red blood, but in the japanese version, everyone except sam has white blood.
Yeah Raiden had synthetic blood in MGS4, so I was guessing that cyborgs in this game would have too... I guess Western audiences love red blood. xD
@@RockyRockhead The codec conversations discuss the lore explaining why the synthetic blood was changed to red in the years since MGS4. The simple answer is that the white blood was a prototype back when there were very few cyborgs in the world, and the cyborg technology going "mainstream" with the PMCs has advanced the technology to having synthetic blood which is more similar to organic blood, including being red.
Will you be checking the codec? Most of the lore and references are there. also usually the each person will have 2-3 conversations.
I checked the codec and will do so throughout the series... I will probably miss some stuff though. :)

This game doesn't make sense.
I haven't played the game before but that large dude just used the Prime Minister as a human shield, so the normal soldiers won't attack him right? And no other reason
Then why didn't he just killed the PM right away? Surely being a cyborg, he could've ran fast enough to dodge the cops. Bringing the PM only hampered his speed, allowing Raiden to catch up even though he is busy fighting the Metal Gear twice.
Oh it's ludicrous... no sense, just nonsense. xD
BUT I have been told that the combat is very deep and not just button bashing, so I have a lot to learn in order to survive.
