My recommendation is to go see the Midwestern or southern states and avoid the largest cities. It will be much safer. Most of the shootings reported are within the largest city because their mayors and prosecutors are too lax to go after the criminals. Most people in the Midwest and southern states are friendly. As long as you don't discuss politics, you won't find yourself in a heated discussion.
I'm going to give advice to people. IF YOU VISIT THE USA DONT GO TO THE USA. and Americans Work there butts off. They are very very hard working people. We have to work until we are 70 years before we can retire. We are very hard working people.
This is very true, the U.S. is a vast country. But equally, I would say that the average U.S. Tourist visiting the U.K. is unlikely to visit Bath, Manchester, Liverpool, York, Cornwall, The Welsh Valleys, The Lake District or the Scottish Highlands. Just London really. Not a criticism, but probably a valid point. Both countries have a lot more to see than the usual big cities. 🙂
This is true, because most people only visit NYC, LV, Vegas, and Miami when visiting. Even on road trips, they only pass by the states around them like Utah and stop for a few days max so they don’t get familiar with the local culture.
Got that right. Boston is more intellectual than Seattle and Shy-town is off the hook. Grew up in Wa. State, dad from Mass and I had the opportunity to live in New England,Connecticut, and it was rad. Totally bloomed in that culture. But. .. then I surfed and found god. Thanks for the Turtle submarine Yankee😀Love ya!
I once had to explain decimal currency to an elderly US tourist; it was his first time in UK since WW2 and was expecting sixpence, threepenny bits and half crowns, and was confused by 10, 20 & 50p pieces.Bless him.
Thank you for being kind and explaining the currency to them. As an American, for personal safety, my recommendation is to stay out of the Eastern and Western States. Major cities like New York , LA and the very high populated cities are managed by Democrats who are lax on law enforcement. To illustrate my point. In Indiana for example. 2/3 of the Indianapolis resident criminals are in the donut counties like Johnson around Marian county (Indianapolis). Indianapolis has Democrats running the city while Conservative Republicans manage the donut counties and most of the counties in the state. Most of the state has a very low murder rate except Indianapolis and Gary way up north. The sheriffs and prosecutors in the Conservative counties already said they are not letting the Indy criminals have their way by making them sit in jail for years not weeks and months like Marian county.
As an Egyptian who first lived in the UK and now in the United States, I enjoyed this video. I’ve lived in Manchester for 2 years before moving to Los Angeles where I’ve been living for 3 years now.
This is a sociological study. I love the way you put the camera right in front of them, capturing the body not in a journalistic way. I find particularly interesting the use of the word "cousin" in this context... This is your best video.
As an American and Texan who is proud of the culture I have, I agree with the man around 10:49. Don’t forget your mistakes, but don’t let your mistakes overshadow the great things your nation has done. Love you cousins.
@DS If other countries don't like us, it'll be harder for us to trade, forge military alliances, and compete against China in the global economy. All our guns and bombs mean nothing if we don't have soft power too.💰🗽🦅
Great observational comment Angeline! I think our opinions are based on where we live, have grown up & exposure to people in an additional 49 States! I'm US but I like all the UK people I know & have ever met!
American checking in. The array of these opinions is about what I expected. For what it's worth, nearly all Americans will award anyone with an accent from the UK with +10 IQ points so you all have that going for you.
As a fellow American, I'd agree with this last statement. Stephen Fry or Hugh Laurie! LOL. I wonder if this 'brashness' that Brits talk about isn't some of just cutting loose when out of the country. People, from where ever, can act differently in different situations. By the way - we didn't all vote for 45. Many of us don't like him either.

Living as a German in the US and being married to an American, all your interviewees were spot-on in their own way. Being from Schleswig-Holstein (Angles, you know), I still feel more of a bond with the British :-).
As A Welshman I agree that the English and German peoples have a lot in common. Where as the three Celtic nations of Ireland, Wales and Scotland have more in common with each other and less with the English.

The US is something like the size of Europe isn’t it? So it’s fatuous to say “What do you think of Americans?” Just as Europeans are as unlike one another country to country, so it is with the US state to state, so there surely isn’t a ‘typical’ American? I’m British and hate this proliferation of RUclips videos that keep buying into the trope of wanting the vox-pop to trot out the usual nonsense that most Americans are fat, loud and ill-educated. It’s unnecessary, unkind and untrue. During my two visits to the US I only encountered warm, welcoming, friendly people who wanted to know about life in the UK and who spoke proudly about their lives. I do, however, think that it’s reprehensible that politically the US seems to stand alone in the developed world in not providing universal health care for its people and that it appears that many people have been brainwashed into equating universal health care with communism for some obscure historical reason that I cannot fathom. It seems there’s a misunderstanding amongst many who confuse socialism, ie society caring for its people, with communism, ie a regime that controls its people. Why is there this misunderstanding? Do some of you imagine that all of us in Europe live under communism? But that is US politics and should not be conflated with US people. My only other observation is that you all spend too long at work! You deserve shorter working hours and 6 weeks paid vacation. It hasn’t bankrupted employers in the rest of the developed world so it wouldn’t bankrupt your employers either to treat you more humanely I feel.
Weight - has she looked us, in the uk!!! ( not me) Especially the women, fat!!! I like Americans, Trump compared to, Biden, haha, you kidding, look at the state your in !!! We in the, UK, have > control …I’d rather live here, unless, Alaska, further their shops are better!!! Lol
I agree there is a lot of heavy people in America and that is just due to people's diet plus people don't walk everywhere and drive to places. Driving especially true in more rural states where public transportation doesn't exist. Due to medical issues including allergies, I had to switch to a low fat , high carb diet to just maintain my weight. I went from 213lbs down close to 150lbs in about 3-4 months.
@@WW-cp4gb I guess it depends on who you hang out with or where you live. It seems like Americans are obsessed with being skinny and fit. 150 from over 200 is great by the way!

Personally, I've got nothing against Americans. I've never had a problem with them. What I dislike about America is the government, though. But that's another story... I've learnt an important lesson when I was younger namely that people don't always feel represented by politicians and their actions.
Great video, as always) thank you very much for your work! If a person is learning English and does not know which manner is closer to him, then after watching your videos he will definitely be in a British accent)
American checking in here to give my opinion. I’ve noticed the Brit’s that visit NYC think Americans are loud. That’s just mainly NYC/ most big cities.
3:59 Wow an actual European than recognizes that we are 50 completely different states with completely different laws and completely different cultures and attitudes. Its a frigging miracle that im not lumped in with america's armpits of California and New York for once.
I get it, Americans don't travel as much as we should and have a very closed view of the world by comparison but not all of us are "loud," "entitled," or "brash," yet we're ALL treated as if we are when we travel. I've met the locals when traveling and it never ceases to amaze me how comfortable they are with telling me how "obnoxious," "fat," or "uneducated" Americans are and how surprised they are to learn that I'm from the US. Really? How's that for being polite? Domestically, I had dinner with some friends and their German guests who were genuinely surprised that we wanted to know about the new German Chancellor (apparently they didn't think we read or watched the news). Generalizations from this video aside, I've always been told by non-Americans that we were "incredibly friendly (almost to a fault)," "curious about people who were visiting," "generous" and "hospitable to guests." It seems like most of the opinions in this video came from people sitting on their "arses" watching the "telly" rather than coming to America.
The problem, dude, is that A LOT of people in this country DO embody all of those negative stereotypes. And, unfortunately, we seem to love giving those people a platform and a microphone. *Cough* Trump *cough*. So when non-Americans tell me that they've encountered Americans who were fat, loud, arrogant, obnoxious, and ignorant, I can't help but believe them because I see those same kinda people all the time in this country. All you or I can do is try to counteract those negative perceptions through our own behavior/education.
To be fair to people who don't come here, and Americans that don't go overseas--it is really expensive to travel that far! Most Americans I know spend more time in the U.S. simply because of economic reasons.
the guy at the end, i have to say, speak for yourself. I'm proud to be British. i sowed a union jack (which my nephews and niece love handing up in their bedroom) and I'll be sowing another. our ancestors did the bad stuff years ago, not now we don't. i say to BE PROUD!
absolutely. britain did some terrible things in its past but britain is also credited with wiping out the slave trade single-handedly. if it wasnt for the british peoples war on the slave trade then it would still exist today. i see this as a great reason to be proud.
National pride is foolish but being grateful for Britian is a good thing, I think. I'm an American and I've never been to Britian but from what I've read, Britian's royal family and the nation as a whole has done great good in the world. Of course, none's perfect. I'm sure with all my spiritual flaws, I may have made the same mistakes had I as much power as Britian did.
@@MiguelDLewis thank you ☺️ I'm happy of how successful America has become even though you have for years 😊 I love how Brits and america settled our differences 💜
Well, I voted for us to remain in the EU. I didn't want to brexit. When I asked why people chose to vote to leave the EU, I always got the same answer; "to make our country great again!". It just seemed like such an ignorant and patriarchal decision to make. Though I'd be lying if I said I knew for a fact that remaining was the better decision as well. Truth is, nobody in Britain knows what was best for us, as our government was spooning us all sorts of lies.
I’m from Boston, Massachusetts. We can be loud, and obnoxious but some of us are good natured and descent. Yes we get loud, in my case it’s the Italian heritage, lol.
Believe me, as an Italian, I’ve never seen the kind of behavior that some Americans have. Not wanna sound offensive, but I find lots of differences between Italians and Americans.
I love them. My first trip was from canada to montana driving through to Texas and Mexico. Love the brassy New Yorkers. New Orleans fabulous people. A bit more violent there so we brits going up and down canal Street just kept saying sorry. It made me realize just how polite we are. You are in their country respect that.
I enjoy hearing peoples opinion and respect it. Although it baffles me that the stereotype is fat and lazy meanwhile we just won over 130 medals at the Olympics. Not to mention we work the longest hours a week and take the least amount of time off from work.
There were 500,000 American men stationed in Britain ready to give their lives on the eve of D day. They got slaughtered on Omaha beach. We owe them a great debt of gratitude.
As an American, every time I hear a Brit speak they sound very cheery. Like they are smiling. Very bright and cheery. I think all Americans love the Brits. Don't be offended if we mimic "cheerio!" it is affectionate teasing. We like hearing "proper English". I was impressed with the guy at 0:45 that is very true about the cultural ignorance often we can't even locate other countries on the map. Also at 4:00 minutes. We are very different state to state or region to region like many mini-cultures. I'd say you have (North West, West Coast, South West, Southern, East Coast, Mid-west, and North East) at least 7 distinct regions in the US by accent and culture; each influenced by its degree of cultural mixing. If I were to try and visit each region (for above) in the Us I'd try: Seattle Washington, San Diego California, Phoenix Arizona, New Orleans Louisiana, Miami Florida, Des Moines Iowa, and Jersey/New York New York. Unfortunately many are obese because of fast food. Almost 2/3 of the population is. For the 1/3 that aren't there are a lot of fit and athletic people still who usually get teased by the fat ones lol As if being fit was a mental health issue 😅 Just put down the burger bro!
This tends to be the case, I find. You can watch other videos of people from various cultures' thoughts on Americans, and it's a fairly common thing. I think we're not so well represented by media and, of course, that stereotype of the American tourist which, while true, is only one type of American. There are also quiet, respectful ones walking past you on the streets of Paris or London or etc that you just don't know happen to be American.
Agreed. Englishman here; US working hours and vacation time are probably the least flexible in the developed world, it's far more of a work culture than anywhere else because big business keeps it that way. I can only apologise on behalf of any of my ignorant fellow countrymen who might be under that misconception.
@@Mia-vm6pl The only US creation taken on elsewhere is probably Hollywood and that's become so woke it's losing its potency. The US sets its own standards but they're generally regarded as 50 years out-of-date elsewhere. The farming and food standards, infrastructure, gun culture, healthcare, work-life balance, education system, politics etc all hark back to an earlier age. The USA stopped improving and stagnated for so long that it now sits bottom of the table of developed nations in so many areas. So you're definitely not hated, perhaps just viewed as out-of-touch. Travel the world, go spend a year or two living in Europe. It will open your eyes.
Loved this. I am American and plan to make my first trip to Europe. Will go to the British Isles and England first, because they also speak English. My ancestry is English, so I'm very interested in seeing historical spots. I've known two people who moved here from England. Lovely people. Of course we Americans are obsessed with the English accent. And yeah... America is Huge.

Why do (SOME) American comments always bring up this one thing? That was 80 years ago, neither of US were alive back then probably. These are entirely different people than those from ww1 and 2. It's also really embarrassing how this is the only thing that's being brought up, no matter what the topic is. "So one thing I don't like about America..." "-WW1!!!WW2!!!" Come up with something new, somwthing that actually relates to the topic. Or just be like any normal person, think "wow, this rando sure does say a lot of nonsense", ignore them, and move on
Some of them say we’re rude and abrupt, others say we’re welcoming and friendly. I wonder if it crosses any of their minds that we might be reflecting the way they behave, that the way we treat them might be a reflection of their own personalities.
I think they either visited west coast or northeastern states. If you go towards the Midwest, southern states, people are alot more friendlier due to southern hospitality.
If you listen to what they were saying there is a clear pattern: American tourists in Europe: Sometimes rude and brash. Americans in America: very pleasant and welcoming. Americans have less time off from work than Europeans; Americans that travel abroad are either teachers or very wealthy Americans. It’s the wealthy Americans that might have a bit of an attitude about them.
As an older American whose father was of English and Scottish descent and also fought in WW2, I was genuinely scared to click on this. My dad was so proud of his service and of America, and so am I. These videos often run Americans down and it almost brings me to tears. It's nice to hear a few positive comments. We aren't all pushy and arrogant. BTW, visit somewhere besides the right and left coasts. You'll get a better idea of what we're actually all about.
The US is so vast and different. Impossible to peg it. Stereotypes are half truths easily disproven in a different environment. At the end of the day, all human being want to be happy and be loved.
I’m glad to heart that the British have wonderful things to say about the US. As an American, I like to hear their accent and calm demeanor. I like when they say “whereabouts” we usually say “where in” 🙂
"we're a bit brash." I think that's fair. And that's what i appreciate you, my cousins across the pond. That Being said i think you should be proud of your said county while admitting the faults. The UK has a great history recorded up to the 1100's, and that in it's own right is pretty awesome.
Many of the negative comments are about Americans who traveled to England, which I would think is NOT typical of the average American. I’m American, and I just enjoy meeting people from other countries and cultures.
4:17 This guy has it right, we are a huge country & to think we all the same is like saying people from Sheffield are the same from liverpool. im a Mexican with married family from Sheff and i love tbe English sophistication and their command of the English language is something you gain with being the original speakers and writers. we're more little brothers than cousins. as we get hand me downs in culture and now we're in our teens looking to make our own name with still showing respect to the English with our Flag colors and if you find educated Americans they will say we love our shared history
To sum up all of the US, it's like doing the same for all of Europe. The North, East, West and South of the US have distinctly different cultures. It's interesting all the same.
I remember going into Houlihan`s for breakfast on 5th Ave, NYC the day after I arrived there (Sat, Nov 14th, 1992 ). They asked if I`d like the big breakfast. Upon seeing it I told the staff that I was only in the city for a week and that I should therefore prefer a smaller `brekky.` They laughed, I laughed - and I got along great with the New Yorkers.
the typical american's favorite foreign countries tend to be either france, italy, or england, and a lot of americans have some type of ancestry rooted in europe. so british people have always been seen quite positively here
"A lot of people here think Americans are big and fat. But I've met and worked with a lot of Americans, and they weren't like that." That says it all. Brits have no clue at all about Americans. 15 minutes ago I defended the UK here on RUclips. I thought the UK liked us and we were best friends. That feeling has changed. They like to talk about Americans and guns and being "war happy" until they need us. I can't tell you how many times I've said that we would shed blood for the UK and look what they say about us. I am going to agree with Europeans on this. America needs to pull out of Europe completely-including NATO. "Big and brash" Almost all of them said that. Well pointed out Aaron, hopefully no one takes this episode too seriously when it comes to stereotypes videos. At least some pointed out that this certain "directness" is something the British lack.
This is often a class based behaviour. Typically, the working and upper classes behave with very strong self-confidence and behave as if they don't care what other people think - and they drink heavily and can be obnoxious. But then you have the majority of middle class people who are very aware of their position in society and what other people think - and though they might drink moderately, they would never behave in that load brash drunken way that the upper/working classes do. British society is very nuanced in the class system - I can categorise someone within a minute or two in terms of background / position in society / money etc , just by the way their dress, speech and demeanour.

I'm an American. Media is way too prevalent here, it's into every nook and cranny of our lives + people share their opinions on hot topics too much. More people are getting fat as a whole but you can go over to another city or state and see more fit people than other places. It's such a mixed bag and politics has hurt how people interact with each other. We probably have the worst voting system in the world and we're stuck in between a rock and a hard place.

Nice to know!!!
The sheriffs and prosecutors in the Conservative counties already said they are not letting the Indy criminals have their way by making them sit in jail for years not weeks and months like Marian county.
yes, go to the poor red racist states, that get hand outs from blue states.
Thanks for helping him. Odd that he was so confused though since we have "decimal currency" in the US as well. .01, .05, .10, .24, and .50

Living as a German in the US and being married to an American, all your interviewees were spot-on in their own way. Being from Schleswig-Holstein (Angles, you know), I still feel more of a bond with the British :-).
Being an European (EU citizen) also living in the USA I really feel very European listening/ watching to your videos.

It hasn’t bankrupted employers in the rest of the developed world so it wouldn’t bankrupt your employers either to treat you more humanely I feel.

yes the riches states. the 4th economy of the world
Most people I know actually aknowledge that as well. It's mostly just Internet warriors that lump all states together
Generalizations from this video aside, I've always been told by non-Americans that we were "incredibly friendly (almost to a fault)," "curious about people who were visiting," "generous" and "hospitable to guests." It seems like most of the opinions in this video came from people sitting on their "arses" watching the "telly" rather than coming to America.
to be fair that last sentence was a teeny bit obnoxious

There were 500,000 American men stationed in Britain ready to give their lives on the eve of D day. They got slaughtered on Omaha beach. We owe them a great debt of gratitude.

If I were to try and visit each region (for above) in the Us I'd try: Seattle Washington, San Diego California, Phoenix Arizona, New Orleans Louisiana, Miami Florida, Des Moines Iowa, and Jersey/New York New York.

Easy English, I want a competition between the easy languages!! Including the new languages like czech, kurdish etc....
Great idea! We might play another round of pronunciations next year… keep your eyes peeled 👁 👁
:@8:54 we call that "zero fucks to give"

They always say that we are brash, loud, obnoxious etc, but I’ve BEEN to SEVERAL British pubs during Premier League matches. I’ve never seen a louder, more brash, more obnoxious group of drunk people in my life. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved every second of it. But I’m just sayin….come on you guys! You’re not THAT different.
This is true. Some Brits love Alcohol and scrapping.
10:40 Subtitle should say 'Britons' as opposed to 'Brtain's'. He is referring to the people and not the country
Thanks for the correction Liam :)
I think the British have a deep insecurity when it comes to America. It's the life and land they wish they had. And it shows.
Yes, that's what I noticed, it really does show!
why do you guys have such a massive superiority complex?
thanks for proving my point. What is there to be envious of? the school shootings? America is rarely talked about in our news, seems like you've just got a massive chip on your shoulder for no reason. You don't care about the UK or any country probably because you couldn't even point to them on a map. We aren't bitter, just sympathetic and embarrassed for you tbh.
@@Mia-vm6pl you sound like you don’t like people from the uk however are very obsessed with there opinions based on your paragraph rant. Sounds like you are trying to justify yourself and tell everyone you’re happy, comes across as an insecurity… however I’m sure you are happy, I wish you the best and remember the views of some aren’t necessarily the views of all
No offence but the American life isn't something that I envy or would want for the UK or British people .
Hi, is there any video about what do British people think about Brazilians?
Unfortunately not! Hopefully we can make this video one day though... keep your eyes peeled :)
From my personal experience, meeting them when in America they are friendly, welcoming people who are always interested in who you are and where you have come from. My experience of them when in other countries is not so good!! 😂
I think the vast majority of the people interviewed get us Americans but I find it interesting that they were commenting on obesity...when I've travelled to the UK it seem there were just as many obese people as here.
Americans may be loud but so are the Brits…
Usually that's how you can tell any foreigner in the USA right away...their loud and attention seekers.
very well done, and accurate from an american view
I'm an American. Media is way too prevalent here, it's into every nook and cranny of our lives + people share their opinions on hot topics too much. More people are getting fat as a whole but you can go over to another city or state and see more fit people than other places. It's such a mixed bag and politics has hurt how people interact with each other. We probably have the worst voting system in the world and we're stuck in between a rock and a hard place. I really admire the English for their overall reserved manner in public and not trying to tell the world what they're into by their appearance or first few sentences, I think it makes them more approachable and adds some mystery.
75,000,000 of Americans voted for Donald trump. 😬
I know several Americans personally & they are lovely.
Yes, I think we are too. Thank you.
I voted for Trump twice. Just pointing out that maybe things won’t go smoothly if you talk about politics here. Just saying! 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers though 🇺🇸🤝🏴

yes it is, I’m very proud of that, seeing as how sh1t this country’s becoming, I was right. And you better hope you’re American, don’t tell me how to vote in my own damn land. Cheers 😉

"Brash and loud" -I find Americans mild mannered and polite.
As a yank, I can tell you one trait most brits do get about us. If you want to know what an American thinks about something, just ask. We're not used to being sutble.
Can you guys give me some advice? How do y'all actually study with these videos? Like, what's your method for studying English this content?
Hi Nori, so if you didn’t know, we have a membership platform @ Patreon.com/easyenglishvideos
We offer video/audio downloads and a transcript with a vocabulary helper and a worksheet so there are many ways to learn with us. Maybe it’s just being able to watch the video whilst reading the transcript and using the vocab helper for the more difficult words. Or studying the transcript/video and completing the worksheets.
@@EasyEnglishVideos Oooh, thanks! It's definitely worth paying for this :)
@@nori_tutor We would be so happy if you became a member... it really helps us continue our project and the price is quite reasonable I hope
Ooooh, that ass whoopin still hurts. It still stings and burns even though we still saved you from speaking German. For cool Brits...we see you, but the rest... Please.
No you didn't. We could have survived on our own for at least 15 years. We had the Empire (including Canada) and the worlds most powerful Navy - plus we were an Island that would have been very difficult to invade - which is why it never happened. The Russians mainly defeated the Germans from the East - so not the US saving us.
@@marksip01234 Yeah ok. No you couldn't have. You delusional. The world's most powerful Navy???? No, you didn't. We have states larger than you and had a navy to match back then as well. Let it go.
One day you will find other ways to insult us I am sure .
@@hannahdyson7129 Well, I did say, "for cool Brits, we see you." So, I guess a hit dog does holler.
That older fella is the man.
"I got kicked off Facebook for 24 hours for making fun of Americans". Wow! I 'm a Yank and I got thrown out too! The pricks can tolerate the most racist, vile and threatening insults on the web but when I respond to condemn this insult, I get thrown out. Same thing with Twitter. This happened to friends also.
Why are Brits afraid to be proud of their country? Why is there reserve in this? A lot of you said, us American's are openly proud to be American's and we show it, and this is very true. You should be proud to be British, yes?
yes they're proud of brexit
interesting, I spend a lot of time in Vegas for work and once the Alcohol is flowing; rude, brash, loud seems to be the way of all English speaking people.
I will admit that when I went to World Cup(2014), the loudest, aggressive, brash..Rude... people were the Brits. Second place wasnt even close(2nd place was Brazil, but it was their country..they were loud and boisterous, well until that game with Germany. they got real quite after that.)
Yup... I went to a New Year's party in Bali full of Brits and they were sooo disrespectful towards the Indonesian staff. They walked around like they owned the country and acted in such a vulgar way...
I like Americans but reading some of the comments I realise that they get easily offended and hit back with quite disrespectful comments. They also stereotype us by saying we all drink tea, we all talk like Mary Poppins, we have bad teeth etc.
@@lyndagould9405 We don't all think that, & as far as being offended, yeah, any time someone shits on our country that warrants offense, just like any other country!
