In 1994, while a young boy in Ghana, I wrote to this university, asking for a prospectus. Someone in the international office (first name Yvonne) sent me a prospectus and dozens of pens and books. It was one of my happiest days ever. Yvonne (sorry, I don't remember the surname) asked me to update her about my academic progression. I found it funny then, but I wish I could update Yvonne now that I have completed my Ph.D. (in Germany). Still, the day I received the parcel counts as one of my happiest days ever. For this, I like the city of Birmingham, even though I have never set foot there.
I got my degree from here in 1983, and until 2011 the clock tower was central to the view from several of the classrooms in which I taught at a school a few miles away. I didn't bother with a clock in my room. Despite the distance, my long sightedness allowed me to read the time on Old Joe.

gosh, the old library has been razed !
They had to keep it at least for another purpose
Too bad. It's all closed off, even to staff, until who knows when?
