Thank you guys so much for watching this video. Let me know what you think of these albums and please let me know what your 10/10 albums are! Please put the year the album came out and the genre of the album. That way it's much easier to sort through the comments when coming up with a theme for the next video :)
@@AscendWithMeseconding this one, Be Home Free is one of my favorite songs of all time
What is the next theme
Spooky by lush (1992, dream pop / shoegaze). Side note the remaster is kinda bad listen to the original version
ERROR by The Warning. They’re a rock band that not many people know about but they are amazing. An album that is more popular for rock that I also enjoy would probably have to be Meliora by Ghost which has some just amazingly written songs in general.
Blood Visions- Jay Reatard 2007
Garage punk with ramones type fake British accents with some amazing hooks
Everyone loves jazz, but not everyone knows it
i know a lot of people who cant stand it
@@ladovacheishvili7921 I love jazz. Haven’t listened to a lot though, from what I heard I don’t understand how anyone couldn’t stand it.

I think you would really like Alice Coltrane Journey in Satchidananda. It features Pharaoh Sanders and its imo one of the best spiritual jazz albums of all time which is saying alot because there are soooooooo many masterpieces in spiritual jazz. I also recommend peace on earth by john Coltrane, ole by john Coltrane, mwandishi by herbie hancock, The Colours of Chloe by Eberhard Weber and hot rats by frank Zappa.

Also the only album I give a 10/10 just cause:
Blackwater park - opeth
Idk if you’ve listen to metal, but this is the goat for the genre, unquestionably
Great video!
Glad to see Mahavishnu Orchestra, fun fact, John McLaughlin has been in a lot of other jazz projects such as Bitches Brew
There's something so funny to me about Kyle describing Mahavishnu orchestra as having black midi vibes, or just people in general describing [older artist's album] as having [relatively new artist] vibes. Like i get it ofc, people who are into music rn will know newer artists especially the ones tgat are talked about a lot online, but if anything the older artists probably influenced the newer ones. Fun video tho! As always :)

@@alvinrowjr1651 it definitely deserves more love
Anatolia by Feed me Jack (2015) (Indie Rock)
It is just a 20 minute EP but it is just so full of ideas. The flow is immaculate making it feel like just one long song. Every re-listen is rewarding.
If you are interested in some more modern Jazz I can recommend:
- NOT TiGHT by DOMi & JD Beck (2022) - Some insane drums and keys with a wild feature-list (Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, ...)
- Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal (2016) has some grooves that will stay with you for weeks. Incredibly tight.
great vid Kyle! heres some 10/10s for you

Eels - Electro-Shock Blues (1998), an indie pop record with an incredibly sad backstory and depressing themes
Panchiko - D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L (2000), indie rock/dream pop record with a cool backstory
Rush - Hemispheres (1978), progressive/hard rock similar to yes imo I think you could fw this album
Roland Kirk - We Free Kings (1962), Hard bop. This was my first jazz album and it really got me into the genre
Midnight Ping Pong - Intense Story (2016), a super fun Chinese indie rock/Midwest emo record. One of my favorite Asian albums
electro shock blues is so amazing
@@leoscoo6135 so real for this
Some of my 10/10 albums I think you’d enjoy:
Below The Heavens - Blu & Exile
(The most underrated hip hop album of all time, in my opinion. Perfect soulful production from Exile, and incredible down-to-earth verses from Blu, quintessential West Coast underground hip hop and no doubt a 10/10)
Miles - Blu & Exile
(For all the reasons as the album above, beautiful ode to Miles Davis and life in general as well, my AOTY of 2020 and second favorite album of all time)
The Awakening - Ahmad Jamal
(a jazz album I think shoulda been in this vid, extremely underrated and my favorite jazz album ever)
Her Favorite Colo(u)r - Blu
(underground, lofi, experimental hip hop with great lyricism and recognizable samples, entirely produced by Blu, my personal favorite album of all time)
Dummy - Portishead
What We Must - Jaga Jazzist
(Post-Rock, Psych Nu-Jazz situation)
Getz/Gilberto - Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto
(Probably my second favorite jazz album)
Undun - The Roots
(Modern hip hop masterpiece, my favorite album by the indisputable greatest hip hop band of all time, also, can be listened to in reverse order)
Live From the Dentist Office - Injury Reserve
(Maybe not 10/10 from a critical perspective, but based off straight fuckin vibes, an 11/10, one of my favorite hip hop albums ever)
Gotta check put Let My Children Hear Music, by Mingus as well, omg it's so fucking good. Also for a player on Kind of Blue is Bill Evans, who was the pianist, and introduced Miles to the Modal style of jazz. Very important to the album, but his solo album Symbiosis is great
Some albums that I think are definitely worth reviewing:
GY!BE - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (Post Rock, Drone, 2000)
A somewhat similar album to the Inner Mounting Flame, Frank Zappa - Hot Rats (Jazz Rock/Fusion, Progressive Rock, 1969)
Fripp and Eno - No Pussyfooting (Ambient, Drone, Space Rock, 1973), a project by the guitarist of King Crimson and Brian Eno

Some of my Jazz 10/10 albums:
Duke Ellington & Charles Mingus - Money Jungle (1962)
Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch! (1964)
Cannonball Adderley - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (1966)

In A Silent Way (1969) - Miles Davis - Jazz Fusion
Getz/Gilberto (1964) - Stan Getz and João Gilberto - Samba Jazz
Journey in Satchidananda (1971) - Alice Coltrane featuring Pharoah Sanders - Spiritual jazz

Townes Van Zandt (1969) - Townes Van Zandt - Folk/Country
Dots and Loops (1997) - Stereolab - French electronic art pop??? Idk hard to define lol
One of my 10s that I think you'd love is Destroyer's album, "Kaputt"! Idk if you have covered it, but it has truly exceptional production and songwriting. Dan Bejar is a genius.

some of my 10s that you might have not listened to:
Get to Heaven by Everything Everything (Art pop, released 2015)

Finally We Are No One by múm (Indietronica / Dream pop, released 2003)

Seychelles by Masayoshi Takanaka (City Pop / Jazz Fusion, released 1976)
I love Jazz & your commentary in this lovely video. Keep up the good work. 👍
I have only one recommandation of a 10/10 album. Not because I don’t have more 10/10s but because this album is so good that I can’t ask for anything else.
Velocity: Design: Comfort. - Sweet Trip | 2003 | Electronic/Glitch pop
I definitely need to revisit this one. I feel like I've never fully gotten into it which is weird because it's right up my alley
So glad you made this video! I’ve only ever heard Headhunters and Bitches Brew so I’m definitely gonna use this as a guide to get into more jazz lol
Here are some of my favs/recommendations:
1) Livestream Death Compilation - Birds Fear Death (2022) - (Noise rock, Fifth-Wave Emo)
fair warning, this album is very loud and very dark, it honestly kinda scared me the first time I listened to it but it has such a unique atmosphere and I really love it
2) pushing daisies - julie (2021) - (Shoegaze, Noise Pop, Grungegaze)
this is basically a modern classic in terms of shoegaze, it’s definitely one of the more creative albums in the genre to be released recently
3) We’re Not Here to be Loved - Fleshwater (2022) (Alt-Metal, Shoegaze)
This is very accessible in terms of metal, if you listen to and like Julie then definitely check this one out, it’s basically if that band and Deftones fused
4) I Let It In and It Took Everything - Loathe (2020) (Metalcore, Alt-Metal)
This album has a very unique blend of sounds, it varies from very aggressive metalcore to lighter (but still metal-adjacent) songs. It has a little bit of everything in terms of metal, definitely check it out if you wanna get more into that genre
5) Sunbather - Deafheaven (2013) (Black Metal, Blackgaze)
Without spoiling too much, this album is surprisingly pretty for a black metal record. Check this one out if you want a relatively accessible metal record
6) Pornography - The Cure (1982) (Post-Punk, Goth Rock)
This album is also pretty dark (especially for the 80s), it can seem a bit repetitive at times but it has a really interesting vibe
7) mbv - my bloody valentine (2013) (shoegaze, noisepop) (I definitely have a theme going on here)
I remember in one of your /mu videos you said that Loveless came off as a little one dimensional, so I feel like you might this album. It maintains the overall vibe that Loveless had but also delves into a lot of different styles/moods. I do wanna mention tho that it makes the most sense as an album if you listen to it as a 3 part project
8) Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge - My Chemical Romance (2004) (Emo, Pop-Punk, Post-Hardcore)
This is an emo classic, if you wanna get into emo or at least see what it’s like definitely listen to it (To See the Next Part of the Dream was very emo in a lot of ways so maybe check it out?)
9) Blackstar - David Bowie (2016) (Art Rock, Jazz Rock) (There’s a chance you’ve already reviewed this? I don’t remember)
Given the context around this album I don’t want to say too much, I will say that you should wait to listen to it until you listen to some other Bowie records first
Three Cheers is the only one I've heard off this list, which is definitely a great pick
Common Kyle Reid W. btw I saw Herbie Hancock live in June and it was sick!
Here's my 10/10s
Harmony of Difference-Kamasi Washington, 2017, Jazz
Some Rap Songs-Earl Sweatshirt, 2018, Abstract Hip-Hop
Flower Boy-Tyler, The Creator, 2017, Alt Rap
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill-Lauryn Hill, 1998, Hip-Hop/R&B
The College Dropout-Kanye West, 2004, Hip-Hop
There's definitely more than that but those are the main ones
Dude I bet that was a great concert!
Bitches Brew is SOOOO good dude. its sort of a difficult listen for beginners though. id recommend In A Silent Way before it; it's very accessible and pretty - especially the title track omg.
Thanks again Kyle for making another great video
Thank you for watching!
waow, music and heathstone, i can relate a bit too much
hey Kyle, here's my list of 10/10's
Ants from up there (2022) - BC, NR - post rock(?)

Velocity: Design: Comfort - Sweet Trip - 2003 (indie electronic)
Eat A** Or Die Trying - Mesita - 2019/2020 (unclear)- (singer songwriter, indie, wholesome pop)
My favorite album of all time is Velocity: Design: Comfort (2003) (IDM/Shoegaze) by Sweet Trip I cannot recommend this album enough.

Funhouse (1970) (Proto-punk) by the Stooges
Crumbling (2018) (Folktronica) by Mid-Air Thief
Journey in Satchidananda (1971) (Spiritual Jazz) by Alice Coltrane
I was sleeping on this ^ for so long and I regret not listening to it earlier. If you want another spiritual jazz album to change your life, this is it.
Crumbling is one of my 10s as well. Such a great record
VDR is shoegaze? I thought it was more indietronica-ish than anything.
For when you do another Jazz video. These are a Jazz head's Jazz albums. They are 10/10:
Dave Holland Quintet - Prime Directive (1999/Jazz)
Charlie Hunter Quintet - Right Now Move (2003/ Jazz)

(everything else you have covered)
Parousia -xi (2011) artcore/ electronic
Sing to god - cardiacs (1995) progresive rock/ art punk
A jazz album that I really love and don't see being mentioned in these sort of lists too often is Something Else by Cannonball Adderley.
The chemistry between the musicians is amazing, it feels like a mix between having a conversation and playing a game.
The melodies are simple but sooo good and catchy and the way they play with the motifs is amazing.
Also I love Art Blakey and he steals the show on this one. His drums are exactly where they're needed all the time and it feels like he's having a lot of fun playing. He even plays a melodic motif with the drums near the end of the album and it feels like he's joking and showing off at the same time.
I think it's the best album for someone who is just getting into jazz. Catchy melodies, easy to listen, amazing solos, not too much complexity and dynamic compositions, all executed perfectly by five of the best jazz musicians ever.
Btw, in my opinion, Giant Steps > A Love Supreme.
These are all incredible, especially 'Inner Mounting Flame'. Here's a few of my 10/10's: (not sure if you've already covered some of these)
Parannoul - After The Night (2023) [Shoegaze, Indie Rock]
Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future (The Extended Edition) (2022) [Jazz Rap]

Portishead - Dummy (1994) [Trip Hop, Acid Jazz]
Sprain - The Lamb as Effigy (2023) [Experimental Rock, Noise Rock, Post-Rock]

One thing you should know about this album is that it's probably the best piece of educational media I've ever encountered. It's about the Gulf War of 1991.
I've been meaning to check out The Fire This Time
Karma by Pharoah is probably my fav jazz album ever.
Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock is also pretty high on my list.

squarepushers album are incredible i will say this are amazing and some of em 10/10
hard normal daddy
feed mew weird things
ultravisitor
just a souvenir
My 10/10's:
These New Puritans - Hidden (2010, art rock, experimental)
The Mars Volta - Deloused In The Comatorium (2003, progressive rock)
Mr Bungle - California (1999, experimental)
Why? - Alopecia (2008, indie/alternative hip hop)
Swans - To Be Kind (2014, experimental progressive noise rock)
Great video, here are some of my tens
Either / or - Elliott Smith (1997 indie folk singer songwriter)
Dummy - Portishead(1994 trip hop)
Hot rats - Frank Zappa(1969 jazz fusion, prog)
Ghost reveries - Opeth (2005 Progressive death metal)
Couple of my 10/10 albums:
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way (Jazz Fusion) [1969]
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew (Jazz Fusion) [1970]
Definitely check these Miles albums out, they will not disappoint. A Silent Way is more introspective and spacey, while Bitches Brew can be extremely fiery and funky.
Boris - Boris at last - Feedbacker (Post Metal/Drone Metal) [2003]
Boris - Flood (Post Rock/Drone) [2000]
What can I say, it's Boris, they're killing it, and if you play these albums loudly on some big ass speakers they will shake your entire house (especially Feedbacker). Technically these albums both consist of one song each with the respective tracklists being the "movements" of the song. Both albums consist of a lot of buildup and release, but Flood also finishes beautifully with the last movement (Flood 4) slowly winding down into silence.
Massive Attack - Mezzanine (Trip Hop) [1998]
This album is like Portishead's "Dummy" but with a darker sound and vocals that can be a bit strange at times (although I really enjoy them). Amazing production and a great album for a night drive. Also, a little fun fact, "Man Next Door" samples the "drip, drip, drip, drip" part from the Cure's "10:15 Saturday Night", and is a cover of a great Reggae track titled "I've Got to Get Away" by John Holt and The Paragons.
Steve Reich and Musicians - Music for 18 Musicians (Minimalism) [originally came out in 1978 but I prefer the 1998 recording. The 1998 version has a super clear, crisp sound and is also a bit lengthier which I think adds to the ambiance of the piece]
This album pretty much takes classical music to it's extremes, with a main influence being the hyponotyzing repetition of tribal/chanting music from around the world. I also enjoy that this album features no brass instrumentation, which creates a soft blanket of sound with vocals, percussion, and woodwind intruments. This album absorbs you, never totally leaving your mind with its strangely catchy rhythms.
If you want to hear a really weird jazz album, you should check out Om by John Coltrane. It's a really strange album but VERY interesting.
If you ever do a part 2 of this jazz edition of this amazing series, I would love for you to check out Bohren & Der Club of Gores album from the year 2000: Sunset Mission. It is my favourite jazz record of all time :)
You gotta listen to The Shape of Jazz to Come by Ornette Coleman (1959), it's amazing
That album will fuck him up, he has to give it a try
Here's some of my 10's, if you will:
1. The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute - 2005 - Progressive Rock
2. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf - 2002 - Stoner Rock / Alternative Rock
3. Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick - 1972 - Progressive Rock
4. Various Artists - The Fire This Time - 2002 - Spoken Word / IDM
your videos are awesome this video is so cool i love your videos
Haha thank you!
Important to know Inner Mounting Flame IS a big inspiration for a lot of prog rock albums due to its chaotic playing and guitar work (I think black midi themselves might have been inspired by it)
One prog rock group that WAS inspired for them was Mars Volta and I would like to present Frances The Mute (2005) as a 10/10 album. The way it moves from the most frenetic groovy Latin prog rock to these very melancholy but visceral slow passages makes it very good.
I would not be surprised if Black Midi was inspired by The Inner Mounting Flame
Andrew Hill - Point of Departure (1964)
John McLaughlin [the guitarist from Mahavishnu Orchestra] - Extrapolation (1969)
Hey so here's some 10's I have:
The Disintegration Loops by William Basinski, 2002-2003 (Ambient/Drone)
Music for 18 Musicians by Steve Reich, 1975 (Minimalism)
Once I Was An Eagle by Laura Marling, 2013 (Folk)
First Utterance by Comus, 1971 (Psych Folk)
From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots by Dalek, 2004 (Noise Rap)
The Sound of Perseverance by Death, 1998 (Death Metal)
Ys by Joanna Newsom, 2006 (Chamber Folk)
Sackcloth n Ashes by 16 Horsepower, 1996 (Gothic Country)
Hi, How Are You by Daniel Johnston, 1983 (Outsider)
Emotion Side B by Carly Rae Jepson, 2016 (Bubblegum Pop)
Gotta check out Emotion Side B. I love the original album so much
Point of Departure by Andrew Hill is one of my favorites. John McLaughlin (from Mahavishnu Orchestra) has a great album called Extrapolation.
"Ma-ha-veesh-new" Orchestra. :D
Idk if I’m too late, but some of my recent faves are Elton John’s Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, and if you want more jazz, highly recommend BADBADNOTGOOD’s III, IV, and Talk Memory are peak
Yes, awesome bunch of classic albums! I would suggest to you some modern jazz records and a few others of my favorites.
Ezra Collective - Where I'm Meant to Be (2022) [Jazz/Afrobeat]
The Comet Is Coming - Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery (2019) [Nu Jazz/Space Jazz]
Mark Lettiery - Deep: The Baritone Sessions Vol. 2 (2021) [Funk/Fusion]
Alfa Mist - Variables (2023) [Nu Jazz]

Polyphia - New Levels New Devils (2018) [Djent]
Tricot - THE (2013) [Math Rock]
Perturbator - The Uncanny Valley (2016) [Darksynth]
Nice video! I’ll def check out Promises.
Here’s my bit for doing the same recommendations again haha:
(1) New Age of Earth - Ashra (1977) - Space Ambient/Progressive Electronica
(2) Liberated From the World - New Deluxe Life (2012) - Broken Transmission/Sound Collage
The second one is also considered a vaporwave album. Hope you find time for these at some point! ❤
I just listened to that Ashra album and I’m at a loss for words…It’s so beautiful
One of my biggest 10/10s is Exuma the Obeah Man by Tony Mckay under the pseudonym/persona Exuma
Its a fusion of psychedelic folk and the Carribbean folk music of Tonys homeland of the Bahamas. Its a super immersive and unique unique album, wish it was talked about more in music circles
How can you not like love supreme when karma is literally riffing off from A Love supreme?😂
Anyways…I’m gonna give you my 10/10 albums
Kanye-MBDTF
Prince SOTT 1987
Raekwon-Only Built For Cuban Linx-1995
Miles Davis-Get Up With it 1974
Soft Machine-Third 1970
It's great to see you're still doing videos like you always do. I enjoyed many of your insights. Public radio first introduced me to rock and jazz, by Miles Davis. 😉
i have just about 9 albums that i consider 10s and i would love to see your takes on them. they're all very all over the place.
First for the rap genre:
Armand Hammer & The Alchemist - Haram (2021)
- this is my favorite rap album of all time. infinite replay value where the lyricism gets better and better every time you listen, mixed with the alchemist on production. their styles are a match made in unsettling heaven.
Kendrick Lamar - TPAB (2015)
- there's nothing that i can say about this album that hasn't been said already. 10/10
Moving away from rap, we have hyperpop, or hyperpop adjacent music.
brakence - hypochondriac (2022)
this is my favorite album of all time. there are some very creative mixtures of hyperpop, midwest emo, indie rock, rap, glitch pop, and pretty much anything else you could want from an album like this. this album is also the only album to ever make me cry.
underscores - Fishmonger (2021)
- a beautiful, but also funny, collection of hyperpop music from one of the best musicians in the hyperpop scene, underscores. from songs like "Kinko's field trip 2006" to "Where did you fall" to "Your favorite sidekick" and even "Dry land 2001" and "Del mar county fair 2008" almost every song on here is flawless and makes for an amazing album experience.
Now for rock/folk albums. I know they're not similar genres but i had to find a way to format this.
Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (2011)
- I'm sure every Kyle Reid fan is also a fan of Car Seat Headrest. We all know this album very well, and we can all collectively agree it's perfect.
Nick Drake - Pink Moon (1972)
- I found this album from my first time scrolling through RYM and it has stayed in constant rotation since. this album single-handedly helped me be eager to discover new music outside of my little circle, and for that i'm grateful.
Now for the...miscellaneous- i guess?
The Manhattans - There's No Me Without You (1973)
- Beautiful R&B album from the 70s. Really captures the feeling of sitting in a restaurant with live music playing in the background. Every song feels so different but all adds to the distinct message of "i love you so much, that i physically couldn't live without you." Also, if you're a hiphop head like me, you might recognize a certain song from a Madlib sample.
Quadeca - I Didn't Mean To Haunt You (2022)
- This album is so all over the place with its genres, i have no idea to what to call it. I guess you could say it's Art Pop, mixed with ambient folk, mixed with glitch hop, mixed with..anything??? All i know is this album has helped me through a lot of dark times in my life and i'm honestly proud of Quadeca to see the evolution in his music. Beautiful.
Anri - Timely!! (1983)
- The best city-pop album i've ever heard, from someone who listens to a LOT of city pop. Every song brings its own vibe to the table while still being infectious, groovy, dopamine filling, blissful city-pop. I've listened to this album more times than i could count and it still has never failed to make me smile and make me dance.
Sorry for writing a college level essay for a simple task, but i guess i'm just an overachiever. (plus i'm very enthusiastic to talk about my favorite albums, like any music nerd!)
I appreciate all the detailed descriptions of each album!
Great video!
as for 10/10 albums, I would have the following :
Days of future passed; The Moody Blues; 1967; Progressive Rock
Young, gifted and black; Aretha Franklin; 1972; Soul
The rainbow goblins; Masayoshi Takanaka; 1981; Jazz-Fusion
Voodoo; D'Angelo; 2000; Neo-soul
Mama's gun; Erikah Badu; 2000; Neo Soul
I've been meaning to get into Masayoshi Takanaka
Alice Coletrane, Jouney in Satchidananda - Jazz, 1971
McCoy Tyner, Real McCoy -Jazz, 1967
Cannonball Adderley, Somethin Else -Jazz, 1958
Charles Mingus, Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus -Jazz, 1964
Keith Jarrett, Koln Concert -Jazz, 1975
Mellow Dream, Ryo Fukui -Jazz 2016
Pete La Roca, Basra -Jazz, 1965
Bitches Brew is an essential album to check out, especially if you want a better understanding of the electric period of jazz as every major instrumentalist on that album went on to define the genre in the 1970's. That being said, I know you're not a fan of metal, but you should check out some 10/10 metal albums to gain a better appreciation for both the genre and hardcore music in general. I recommend:
Judas Priest - Painkiller (Heavy Metal) (1990)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (Thrash Metal) (1986)
Death - Symbolic (Death Metal) (1995)
Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk (Black Metal) (1997)
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone (Doom Metal) (2000)
Converge - Jane Doe (Metalcore) (2001)
Bros really chilling north of los santos
Jazz is a phenomenal genre, i got into it growing up watching the Incredibles and falling in love with the soundtrack. Also, could you cover Exile on main street rolling stones 1972 and Sticky fingers 1971 both rock pretty please Kyle?
I enjoy watching these. A classic must listen 10/10 classic jazz record (released the same year as Kind of Blue) is "Time Out" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet from 1959. I'll give it an 11/10.
A few other of mine from other genres that I would recommend:
"Other Voices" - The Doors (1971) Classic Rock
This album was the first one made after Jim Morrison died. To me it is special because it highlights how much talent and character this band had to be able to move on after such a tragedy.
"Armchair Apocrypha" - Andrew Bird (2007)
This album is a gem. It has such a rich unmistaken flow throughout the album where every song goes together and makes so much sense.
"The Art of Drowning" - AFI (2000) Punk Rock
I find this album to be super straightforward rock-ability fun. Super easy to get into and enjoy the whole way through.
"Bottle It In" - Kurt Vile (2018) Alt Rock
This album took everything I thought music was and expanded it so much further. The brilliant sarcastic type of lyrics and the dreamy mellow touch of the guitar. This was one of those albums that I knew was special out the gate.
Some of my personal fav jazz albums :)
Somethin Else by Cannonball Adderley (1958, Jazz) is an all timer for me, one of the most incredible alto sax players and theres also Miles Davis on the album.
Anthology by Grover Washington Jr. (1985, Jazz funk) is full of classics
Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack by Seatbelts (1998, Bebop/Big Band) goes unbelievably hard. Every song has the craziest energy ever
PLEASE check out Naadam by Shibusashirazu Orchestra (2004, Experimental/Fusion Jazz), this song is pretty experimental jazz and I would love to see what you think of it. The whole album is insane but this song sticks out. (Not on spotify sadly, all over youtube though)
Promises!!!!! I love it so much!!!!!!!
I cried the first time I listened to Promises. I was high
Understandable
I don't have many, but here are my 10/10s
Ten stories by mewithoutyou, 2012, art rock/concept album (my favourite album as of late)
In the aeroplane by neutral milk hotel, 1998, indie rock
Someday this could all be yours vol 1 by the paper chase, 2009, alt rock
Strawberry jam by animal collective, 2007, psychedelic pop
Please check out In a Silent Way by Miles Davis. It's the album right before Bitches Brew and it nails the sound imo. Way more nocturnal and spacious in the compositions and is easier for a new jazz-listener to get into. It's my goto album for studying, and John Mclaughlin of the Mahavishnu Orchestra got his start playing on it. It's also got Herbie Hancock on keys and has 3 keyboards at the same time, making it super unique and impovisational, a three-way conversation behind the finest solos modal/fusion-jazz has to offer.
It has long organic compositions that you seem to like (like Promises and Karma)
The way you described this sounds incredible! I'll check it out
Most of my 10/10 albums are some pretty basic picks so I'll give you one you might not have heard of: Chapter One by Sammy Rae and the Friends. Technically its a compilation album, with it being the bands two previous EPs, The Good Life and Lets Throw a Party, put together with a couple singles, Denim Jacket and Saw it Coming, put in there. that does make it a somewhat jarring experience, but I legit cannot care when the music itself is so good. Chapter One itself actually isn't on streaming, it was just released as a vinyl, but all of the songs that are a part of the album are on streaming, and I seriously can't recommend them enough.
For a spiritual jazz album more in the vein of Karma you should check out Journey in Satchidananda by Alice Coltrane. It features Pharoah Sanders for most of the runtime and has a fantastic sense of motion to the compositions. Highly recommend!
Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion
you should 100% do some metal. i wrote the genre off as “cheesy” or whatever for so damn long, but getting into it was so rewarding.
Pink by Boris (2005, sludge/stoner metal)
Unsilent Death by Nails (2010, grindcore)
Gods Country by Chat Pile (2022, sludge metal)
Destroy the Opposition by Dying Fetus (2000, brutal death)
Far Away from the Sun by Sacramentum (1996, melodic black metal)
When the Kite String Pops by Acid Bath (1994, sludge)
I'll definitely do a metal video eventually
Charles Mingus Is A Genius
