Even on video I get that special feeling when the bus drive on the air side is shown. I always enjoy being in interesting places that are off limits for normal people.
Growing up in Bucharest I have always loved ATR's, mostly because my home airline, TAROM, operated those. TAROM recently introduced 9 new ATR 72-600 to replace the older generation ones, I would love you to check them out. I have flown onboard them and there are very modern and bright. Great video!
Hi Lucas.nice flight review,flying in a turboprop is always something special especially in winter conditions with rain and ice.Dashs are made in Canada so they are mostly designed for colder weather conditions instead of ATRs that are more reliable in European standards and places with smoother weather.Anyway I have flown with both models and like them both the same.Cheers my friend.

Thanks for a great review ! I'm a huge fan of the Dash 8, and flew in them many times with FlyBe from Southampton. Sadly FlyBe are no more, and one can only hope another airline will take over more of their routes out of Southampton ! The ATR is o.k, but doesn't have the character of the Dash 8 !

Respecto al Dash8 vs ATC pienso que el tren de aterrizaje del Dash8 en las alas le creará más fatiga de material que en el fuselaje como el ATC. Saludos!

Another good one! LOTs service seems to have gotten better from what I can see, Now they give nuts, a blueberry bun and water free of charge unlike last time I flew with them (Jan 2020) Where I only got a blueberry pastry. The Dash 8 seems alright, but I think a flight on the E170/195 would be more comfortable ;) Have a good rest of the week!

Se llama Ground Power Unit (GPU) y sí, es un generador de electricidad que se conecta en tierra a los aviones para proveerlos de electricidad. Si bien los aviones tienen la Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) que los provee de electricidad cuando los motores están apagados, la APU no deja de ser una turbina que consume fuel, por lo que un generador de tierra es siempre mucho más barato.
Very nice clip, however... all aircrafts avoid icing (severe icing). Light icing is not a threat. Jets also have a deicing system only on leading egde.
11:38 Generally for turboprops and jets (and many other planes), the icing during a flight occurs only on the leading edges. It doesn't occur on the other surfaces of the wings, therefore the deicing systems are present only on the leading edges.
That's absolutely true. However, if the plane enters an area of severe icing, the deicing system of turboprops are less effective than the jets ones. To be more precise, the jet ones are anti-ice systems, so the ice doesn't build up. The turboprops ones are de-icing, so the ice first builds and then it's removed.

Es un sistema neumatico, que como muestras en el video se hinchan unas "Botas" (En ingles: De-Icing Boots) con aire comprimido del motor, que hacen que la capa fina de hielo se rompa. Importante que es un sistema deshielo y no como Antihielo, sin hielo en el borde de ataque este sistema es ineficaz. Ademas el Dash 8 como el ATR 72 son aviones muy,muy propensos a generar hielo en las alas. Saludos

I remember LOT's q400 being ultra comfortable, legroom is great and seat's filling feels fluffy and nice. Unfortunately LOT will retire their entire q400's fleet till the end of 2023, replacing them by embraers 170's
Well, I think the Dash8 fleet fits perfectly the intra-Poland routes. As the routes are pretty short, the flight time is almost the same as on a jet, and the fuel consumption is a lot lower.

Compared to pre-COVID times it seems that LOT service got way better. I remember times when their service consisted of some Polish wafers only.

Yep, not ideal, but taking into account the altitude at which the turboprops fly, many times they just can't avoid icing :)

I've never been on a dash 8 before come to think of it I did see one of those planes in my hometown's airport only once

Yeah, that's partially correct. Jet airplanes have also anti-ice on the engine cowls.

Every extra different plane that you add to a fleet you are increasing the airline costs a lot. It's not a good plan from an economical point of view.
