Kalle, I loved this video. So much of what you said rings true for me as a Canadian. I embrace winter with open arms! Our landscape changes in so many beautiful ways, especially when the snow starts falling. What you said about the quiet it brings,, the moonlight reflecting on the snow, the coziness.. it truly is relaxing. I love it. I think many people don’t understand how we as Canadians (and others who live in northern countries) deal with cold winter temperatures. It’s like it’s their worst nightmare? To me it’s magical, and you have explained that magic perfectly here! ❄️💖❄️
Yeah but don't say that loud or we'll have to say goodbye to peace 😂. I live in Sweden too and I was also thinking to move to North West Canada years ago.
I do remember while growing up in the northern United States how quiet everything became when the snow fell, the glistening like glitter when the sun hit the virgin snow and the sound your footsteps make as you walk upon it. It is beautiful and magical. But I also remember being sick every winter. I’ll stick to visiting the magic.

It will be a blast coming up north in a couple of years but I'm hopefull that it will be worth it. Keep up the good work my friend and make sure the dogs are well!
Hi Kalle..just would like to share this with you before I' ll change my mind ... your videos or perhaps your energy resonates with me so much. its like you speak my soul out for me.. it has a powerful effect on me. I feel profundly the silence & stillness you are presenting.... I've been watching Jonnas videos for years and it was a breath taking experience but meeting you its has been very inspiring . Definitely relate to the gentle lighting. I also prefer small lights in corners and such....hate big lights (How we refer to them here in Yorkshire lol) on after dark. Just totally takes away that cosy feeling. I also know what you mean about snow brightening things up. It does really make a difference. Here in the UK, we don't get much now so our short winter days feel so much darker and gloomier. When it does snow, even in the countryside, it is so light.
I never get tired of seeing the Northern Lights …. She is such a beauty! And we have some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets! Thanks for sharing. 🦋
I live in Jokkmokk and I love the sparkling reflection of the snow when it's a full moon, it's like a Disney cartoon but then in reality. Talked with a friend of mine (67) about the light days and the dark days and he still has the feeling that it's still night or already late because of the lack of light and in the summer the opposite.
The winter there is truly magical, I love the fire and when you let us hear the silence for those few moments …just beautiful! The cabin just MUST be cozy! so yes the warm light in all the different places makes it so beautiful! Love the warm blanket of the night there, and the dogs singing you guys to wake up is sweet! Hugs to you all! 🤍
Even without your beautiful pictures , just listen to you talk about the winter- forest-everything, you make me feel so deep missing real connection with nature. I am sitting here and cry.
@@KalleFlodin I should! We have long nights here in Scotland too (not as long as yours). Sometimes we get auroras too. I am still haven’t seen one and I’m determined to this winter
Interesting! I live in Minnesota USA and our winter is long and at times very cold. We don’t have a full day of darkness but right now our daylight is short to me. Around Sunrise 7:30AM Sunset 4:30-5 PM In the Summer it stays light about 14 or more hours. Our winter lasts about five months. Southern states have shorter winters and longer daylight. Darkness and cold are not my favorite but my family surrounds me so that is where my heart is. The Northern lights are so beautiful 💙💚 You brave the cold like no other with cold bathing etc. I enjoy following you and Christina and your beautiful 🐕 dogs.
You captured my thoughts perfectly on polar winters. I always hype Lapland to people from Central Europe or America, and since they have never experienced it, they don't fully understand it, so it's hard to explain. You, however, explain it perfectly. Polar nights + snow = heaven.
I treasure your sharing these experiences. I love winters, and I have always found the darkness of winter nights to be oddly safe, and most comforting. I envy your seeing the Northern lights, but am grateful to see the images you include. Though I’m “old” (73), I learn from you in every video . . . Still learning how to simplify, appreciate, and be more at peace with myself (and my doggies). Thank you!!
I also have my whole house filled with lamps that has a soft yellow glow and lots of candles burning everywhere. It feels very important to make it extra cozy in the dark season. Thank you for sharing life from your corner of the world Kalle, I enjoy watching series that are about real life.
loved this video! i am no where near this far north, but the short days of winter definitely get me, especially with my schedule starting and ending in the dark. i went for a dark, winter run after watching this, and it was something special. the trees and dark sky just had something special about them compared to in the summer. night is to be appreciated.
I stopped several times the video to look for a few minutes how your dog curls up in your lap. It was such a pleasant feeling to see the natural unconditional trust and peaceful love that flowed from. The whole video is simply magical and perfect, for us who live far from Northern beauties. Thank you...
I had an old friend who (gone by now) lived for several years in the deep Swedish wood in his granpa's cabin. I always asked him if he is not afraid of living there and he always respond: What should I be afraid of? Here is nothing and nobody else only me, my cat and max. some elks. I keep his memories.
Thank you again Kalle for sharing your observations about your winters where you live. It almost sounds like heaven, although not without its hardships and struggles. Living my whole life in the city, I have never seen a sky so pure as you have right outside your door. Some may look at those months of darkness with dread, but to me it is about perspective. Such is life. Stay blessed and stay warm.
Beautiful imagery. The stars in the night sky are amazing! I love the fire and candle light, so much nicer than bright lights. I love the stillness and silence. I love the change of seasons too!
This looks so beautiful and magical! Thank you for sharing. It makes me sad how we can't even see the night sky anymore in most places. I haven't been to Sweden yet but I totally understand what you said about the silence and the nature sounds. One of the things I miss most about living in a rural area is the deep silence. The constant static noise in the city is something I just can't get used to, I find it exhausting. I hope to be living in such a beautiful place too some day. Wishing you and Christine all the best for 2023!
I am down in the fjords of Norway, roughly the same latitude as Hudiksvall, and I am very tired of the darkness (even though I've spent over twenty years in the same area you're in). 😀 Winter can be cozy, and I longed for this darkness during summer, but now it feels like the day is just gone. All light hours is spent at work.
Happy New Year Kalle. Wonderful images of the night sky and what you can see when there is absolutely no light pollution. Here’s to 2023 and more great videos from you.
The timelapses are so beautiful! ✨ And I also really like the thumbnail. 🕯️ I hope I can experience northern lights and the Scandinavian winter one day. 🌲💚
Wonderful starry nights! That is how I remember living in Greenland for a year, going for walks in moonshine, the stars and the Northern lights. The snow created reflections. Whereas in Denmark now, it is more of a grey rainy season, which is rather 'moody'. :D
Thank you 🙏🏻 Considering moving to northern Norway, but the darkness has made me think twice, or 300 times. Feeling a bit more courageous now. I have experienced the midnight sun, but not the northern lights yet.
I watch this and think of how blessed you are to live in such a magical and pure environment. It is no wonder that you are successful at everything you task yourself with. Thanks for sharing your beautiful experience with those of us who never know what it is to live under a northern sky and its polar nights!
All though I am not a winter person myself because of low tolerance to extreme cold. I do appreciate its beauty and calmness. I also remember that exact feeling of looking up at the stars on dark autumn and winter nights and finding them so beautiful and inspiring. Just the sence of fulfillment, meaning and ispiration. There has been quite a lot of snow in Finland this year and getting to my secluded Siskola is difficult, because the road there is private and no one clearing the snow. I will have to get snow shoes or skies to reach it now and a sleigh for provicions and tools. Would make an interesting vlog though! Take care!
Just returned to UK from a month in Sweden staying I'm sure somewhere not too far from where you are. I think you've made a great move, I love your videos, it's a truly beautiful life there 💙💛
Hej Kalle from Jylland...Yes to silence, Yes to northern lights, Yes to the sound of nature and the smell of nature, Yes to darkness with cosy lighting, Yes to midnight sun.... I live in the north but not as far up north as you do (Artic Circle) so I miss some of your spectacular and privileged experiences but still I can enjoy some of the blessings of this area in the map and I love them.. Best video ever, thank you so much!!! The best for the new year 2023!
Winter snow is the best time of the year for me. Hello from New York watching your video you have a wonderful quality of being able to connect with people. This was one of the prettiest videos I have ever seen. Thank you.😀
I find absolutely nothing strange about what you are sharing with us in this video. I, like you, crave the dark and the cold and the extreme changes of Seasons. I believe that the human body and psyche also needs and functions much more holistically when in tune with the natural rhythms of Nature's Cycles. I totally envy you and your lifestyle and dream of such a life. Thank you for sharing with us out here and allowing me to live a bit vicariously through these wonderful videos. I have been following Cecilia for over a year now! Between you and her and Joona Jinton I find much solace and satisfaction as best as possible while living in the very sunny year-round tropics.☹
So lovely kalle , I feel you are in tune with the nature.. like the way you describe the details... The calmness , the darkness.. the pets there .. Just loving how you express yourself... 🤗😍
Like small sparks of light.. The white noise of ice.. The silence of forest.. There's time when its there you .. absolutely alone... Enjoying your own company.. its soo beautiful.. ❤️💐❤️
I've always wanted to see the northern lights. And now I have thanks to you and your videos. Sometimes it's good to live in the darkness to see the light. Thank you for sharing this amazing experience.
I grew up in the northern part of Sweden, in the same area as you live now Kalle. I love the winter darkness that the north gives, it makes me energetic and happy, yes it is strange :D I remember when I was around 7-10, I loved to be out in the forest by myself, building snow houses, hiking around in the mountains, climbing super tall trees, and just lying in the snow looking at the stars and just letting my thoughts and imagination have free range. I now live in the south and the darkness here is not the same and doesn't give me the same energy as in the north, so I do miss that part of Sweden. I should probably plan to move back there, find a cabin in the woods, to find my calm, happy and healthy mind and soul again.
I love how you explain and paint the picture of this time, Kalle. Would love to experience this some time. I feel like we miss so much of our true human experience when we dont know of nature like this.
Thank you Kalle, for giving me a glimpse of the beautiful nature in the North. Gives me some calm during busy moments here in Haarlem (th Netherlands). And it inspires me to think about how my dream life would look like.
We're not quite as far north but really looking forward to getting some aurora activity down here. That's the dream! So true about how the skies hit different in this part of the world 😍Hope you've had a lovely weekend, Kalle!
If I'm not wrong, you two moved to Sweden from New Zealand, right? Did you see the the southern lights in NZ? I know most people live on the North Island, but ...
I loved the podast! I follow you both and it was very interesting having together despite your differences. And I understand what you say about the sky, the different seasons and rhythms of nature during the year. I lived 10 years in the countryside and miss that so much. Wish you and Christine a very good week!
Hello dear Kalle!! Your videos are so beautiful!! They relax me so much!! You have such a magical presence & I so appreciate how you cherish the aspect of time. It’s such a joy to share in your journey!! Thank you for that!! Wishing you & Christine all the best!! Blessings to you all!!!😍😍😍😍😍
Love love LOVE this video! Love your descriptions and accompanying footage, such as full moon brightness. Love that you appreciate darkness. Love that you love “silence”, which is’t silent at all… and so much more. This is one of my favourites of your videos. Thank you! ❤️(🇨🇦). PS I think you would like the book called Wintering by Katherine May… on Audible 😉
i think for me, living in the countryside is the best medicine. i am now studying far away from my province and the ambience is very different. i always find myself craving for the sound of trees and the birds and the soft rays of the sun in my province and the coldness in the early morning. nothing beats the air of nature. everything about it is just very nostalgic. and i always miss my home.
Thank you Kalle, for another beautiful, honest and cozy video! Love to see you are so one with nature and enjoying it! I struggle in the concrete noisy jungle of Holland and I find it hard. My dogs and I are longing for a true home in nature. To start for a good night sleep 😊
Brings back memories. My heritage German/Italian. Lived in Germany 6 years. and 2.5 years in Sweden. met my Partner, he and his family lived in Uppsala. We visit Svalbard before. long long long time ago. I love to read/research Swedish culture/history/language/cooking. I am a huge fan.
So true about being more present wearing a head torch. I only go running at night because it’s so much easier to focus on the small space in front of you and not let your mind wonder. Plus the cold is therapeutic
Tror det här är en av mina favorit videos med dig så här långt. Kan inte riktigt säga varför, men den gjorde mig glad och avslappnad på något sätt. Tack för att du delar med dig!
Darkness in the forest, silence, the scent of nature... I really started to appreciate and understand all of this when I moved to the mountains. The full moon in the woods is magic... Unfortunately here in Italy at 1000 meters above sea level the snow is hardly seen anymore... (Sorry for my bad English).
Hi Kalle - awesome videos, pictures and description. As a kid, I spent a number of years in northern Canada and your reflections really brought back memories of tranquility and peace. Keep posting!
Happy New Year Kalle. I have wondered what wild life is around you? I love going in the forest to just sit and listen to the trees speak. The wind speaking through and with the trees, the snow gently falling from them and even when branches snap. Thank you for sharing and inspiring me with your journey.
It's currently very hot and bright here in Australia and this video made me long for the cold. I specifically chose my house because it's quite dark and so with the small warm lights it feels cozy. I'd love to experiance the polar night at some point - it looks like a wonderful, unique experience
Oh I love this video of yours! I've experienced the polar night and its loooong sunsrises and sunsets a couple of times, even with some northern lights and it was sheer beauty 💙 So beautifully captured and explained. I'm happy to watch this on a rainy night and plus degrees 😄 thank you, dear Kalle!
I recently discovered your channel and I just adore it. I love your content and your desire to escape the city and the rat race really resonates with me. You made a comment about wanting to truly experience each season and how the city lights made you not realize the season has changed. I read an article that this is happening to plants. People that live near densely populated areas are experiencing longer allergy seasons because, due to light pollution, plants don’t realize when spring ends so they are putting out pollen for longer than the same plant that isn’t exposed to light pollution. I love watching you and seeing you’ve chased your dream. I hope to one day do this myself. I just have to convince my husband and kids it’s a dream worth pursuing.
So beautiful! I think it would be hard to not see the sun for such a long time, but the sky that you get to see is so beautiful! We have constant light pollution, so unless we come to somewhere like that, we'll never see the northern lights or all the millions of stars. Thank you for sharing this. (from Sandi)

Your voice sort of lulls you into a very calm relaxing mood. I really believe if ur vlog was longer I could easy drift away to sleep land. So thank you.
Im from sundsvall and I studied in göteborg, and I really like göteborg but the winters there are just rainy, like you said, there are no real shifts in the seasons. in sundsvall the grass doesnt stay green all year round, it becomes brown and then new grass comes in, and snow covers the world for months, and then in the spring it melts and that is just my favorite time of the year! i remember the street where i grew up, i would walk up the hill in spring, with water from melted snow pouring down the street and the sun in my face, i cant describe it but its the most amazing feeling :) cant get that feeling in gothenburg
Wow! Incredible beauty. Thanks for sharing. I live in northern Illinois USA and I get depressed by late February due to lack of sunlight and cold. I’m so drawn to watching videos like this. In theory I love the quiet, the beauty and solitude. Realistically I know I couldn’t live there. My Father migrated to the US at 18 and died at 37 in an auto accident. I’ve never met my family from Sweden. Might be why I just love to listen to you and watch your videos. Thanks.
Beautiful, moving video Kalle. Thank you! I am 100% with you about using small, warm cozy lights and candles and a fire in the fireplace. They too, make me happy. Thank you for your lovely, thoughtful videos. BEST for 2023.
You're a legend to me! I would love to do what you've done. It's hard to get off that corporate cycle, but first chance I get, I am!!! Love your content. I live in Southern USA, and I have a beautiful Husky as well. We don't get a lot of snow, but it is truly beautiful there. What about wild animals? Are there any?
Thank you so much for this one! I have been above the Arctic Circle a few times during winter and love the atmosphere during this time. Good to see it again through your eys. And I myself am rebuilding an old cabin in a small village in Czech Republic, so I see a lot of similarities between the work we are going through ... good to see thaty struggle and the beauty of it. Good luck to you and yours this New Year! Oh ... and I COMPLETELY agree about the lamps! Every time my wife turns on a normal overhead light, it drives me crazy :)
Thank you Kalle for the curiosity stream link. We just signed up. Our Winter in Wisconsin is about 4 months long and only January and February are very snowy and cold. It would be wonderful to do a podcast with you someday about the differences from our countries of the US and Sweden. Take Care ❄❄
Hi Kalle, I had a feeling you would say "the darkness surround me like a blanket." I think I heard Cecilia say it in one of her videos. I'm a sun lover myself, so I can't imagine living in place with that much dark ness. But I have a lot of appreciation for people who do enjoy it. It's like a different world, a different perspective, change of lens. enjoy the darkness but please be safe!!! Be careful for bears and wild animals and such.
This is SO beautiful Kalle. I love your connection with sound: how in what we might dismiss as silent space, with deep listening we hear the subtle sound of the being of a place. Very best wishes to you and Kristina, from Scotland.
Nice one Kalle! Just moved up to near Storlien with my wife, from the UK. Looking forward to a lot of what you're talking about! Hope things are good out East!
what gorgeous night sky, the northern lighs are so spectacular, no pollution, THE STARS!! I remember as a little girl looking at the sky and looking at stars, there were so many, can't see hardly any now where I live. Happy New Year Kalle

I love winter! The silence, even the darkness. I need this time of the year to relax and to have more focus innside that outside. oh yes, it´s really nice to go for a walk in the darkness with a headlamp! Even without your beautiful pictures , just listen to you talk about the winter- forest-everything, you make me feel so deep missing real connection with nature. I am sitting here and cry.
Well done @KalleFlodin. The northern light at 7:12 is magical, and how you describe how the snow calms everything. So special. I love it.
Kalle, your footage is always so beautiful and moving. Thank you for sharing it with us.🤍
Thank you for saying that 🥰❤
Those night timelapse’s are so gorgeous 😍 I rarely go out at night for long so it just feels like an entirely different world
You Should go out more often! 😊
Around
Sunrise 7:30AM
Sunset 4:30-5 PM
In the Summer it stays light about 14 or more hours.
The beautiful sky is so amazing! The sky of the Law.
Happy New Year Kalle. Wonderful images of the night sky and what you can see when there is absolutely no light pollution. Here’s to 2023 and more great videos from you.
Happy new year Tony ❤
I lost my vision three years ago . I want to thank you for you ; I enjoy the narrative; descriptions and emotions. Thank you Kallie
So lovely kalle ,
I feel you are in tune with the nature.. like the way you describe the details...
I love the winter darkness that the north gives, it makes me energetic and happy, yes it is strange :D
I remember when I was around 7-10, I loved to be out in the forest by myself, building snow houses, hiking around in the mountains, climbing super tall trees, and just lying in the snow looking at the stars and just letting my thoughts and imagination have free range.
I live in Harlem - on Manhattan Island, New York City. Hope you are well and all is well in Haarlem❣️🫶🏾
That 10:40 moment reminded me of my days as a scout in the middle of the forest. ❤
What a beautiful video 🙌🏻 I also love the Dark northern Winther months here in Danmark, where everything seems to be more quiet 🥰
I love all your videos and podcasts but this video was really special. Thank you for such insight and poetry on the winter in Sweden!
Reminds me Jonna Jinton’s style… 😳 nice cabin btw
Hi Kalle - awesome videos, pictures and description. As a kid, I spent a number of years in northern Canada and your reflections really brought back memories of tranquility and peace. Keep posting!
Winter is so beautiful in the north! And I so agree with you about small yellow lights! Greetings from Belarus ❤
Thank you, Kalle for sharing such loveliness of the winter where you reside
Oh I love this video of yours! I've experienced the polar night and its loooong sunsrises and sunsets a couple of times, even with some northern lights and it was sheer beauty 💙
So beautifully captured and explained.
Stunning video! Thank you for the view of the Northern Sky, it is beyond beautiful!!! I can only imagine that type of silence
Found this video particularly interesting. Thank you for showing and sharing with us what winter is like up there. 💖🌲
Thank you for sharing your expericence of the winter darkness! Beautiful skies! And the calm... I'm gonna go to listen to the podcast on nebula!
Interesting to listen to your thoughts on winter in Northern Sweden. Thank you for sharing Kalle. Love from Cornwall England ♥️
Awesome Kalle! You rocked! You put on words, some of my feelings! ❤
LOVE this Video. Thanks Kalle! . Yes I follow Cecilia too. But in Northern Sweden isn't it dark 2 months?? or how long?
Thank you Mark 😊❤ I'm not sure exactly for how long it's dark, I think it depends 😊
I just love your cabin with all the cosy soft lit corners !! You live in a magical world Kalle ! 💕🌷
So beautiful! Love this time of year and the light!
Great experience! But I wonder if there are any wild animals in the forest like wolves or bears?
That was Awesome !!! Loved every second of your VL. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Thank you for another great video. Informative, calming, and inspirational as I write this from a concrete jungle in the Middle East. Thanks again
Northern lights look so magical and beautiful
I enjoy Cecilia’s channel- and yours. And Christina’s. 😊 Interesting perspective about the winter darkness. Thank you.
what gorgeous night sky, the northern lighs are so spectacular, no pollution, THE STARS!! I remember as a little girl looking at the sky and looking at stars, there were so many, can't see hardly any now where I live. Happy New Year Kalle
Beautiful Kalle, the same feeling from Sveetun in Dovre and Rondane Nationalpark, quite magic ! Love from Norway @sveetundovre 🇳🇴
Just what I needed on Blue Monday thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you so much Kalle! 🙏✨ I always enjoy your videos. I see them as healing. Silence and stillness is important for us humans and most of us have forgotten about it. I love how you see the changing of the seasons and how we can apply it in our lives. Winter is a time for resting and reflecting, I agree ❄️💙. Love your work! 🙏 Thank you for inspiering us who look at your videos! Take care 🙏. Much love from Skåne.
Wonderful description of the different aspects of darkness! So full of inner experience.
Thank you for this beautiful video! It may be my favorite of yours. I can feel the magic!🌲❄️
This video was extra special, thank you for sharing it with us.
I love winter! The silence, even the darkness. I need this time of the year to relax and to have more focus innside that outside. oh yes, it´s really nice to go for a walk in the darkness with a headlamp! I love EVERY season, I really appreciate we have so much contrast in every season in Norway. Even in the south.
Very very nice video, Kalle!! ✨Greetings from Norway
