None of the dancers are tied down by safety lines, and yes, the its a real train and its really moving. And this is one of SRK's most iconic songs. Him in that red jacket on a moving train: the stuff of 90s kids nostalgia legend.
Lot of trick shots... When the camera moves, it can create the illusion that the train is moving. Just oodles of creativity to make it look like they were dancing on a live running train.

But having watched Bombay, Anjali, Roja and Guru, which are by the same filmmaker, Mani Rathnam, I think Dil Se didn't quite make the cut as these other films of his. With actors like Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala, I feel he could done so much more with this movie. But the songs are truly memorable.

That's Ooty(hill station) train max speed 20 km. Have to book atleast 3 months prior.
No. We went there in November last year. We booked the same day and enjoyed it. Depends n the tourist season

Parts of it was shot in Assam, North East. The bridge part specially.

This was one of the most popular songs in all my school years. A lot of really cool things came together here. The movie which was beautiful + the song itself + the legendary Sukhwinder Singh's voice + the novelty of the choreography + the beyond gorgeous Malaika Arora who was seriously one of the most gorgeous looking women in the country. All this equals to this song being performed in every concert and every fest when we were growing up 😃

Hindi has loads of words borrowed from Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit. Doesn't make them Hindi.

Best part of "Satrangi Re" are the lyrics, and their magic may not carry over so well in translation. Even in "Chhayya-2" lyrics are amazing, but focus goes to choreography because the beauty of lyrics don't translate well.
