Hearing you slap is almost like a sasquatch or nessie sighting 🤣
🦕
I would consider something like that in the new álbum 🤔
Don't forget the compression pedal, which is my favorite after the Boss OC-5.
Awesome content as always Janek !
Akai Headrush E2 for me.
Great delay sounds, great looper.
I have gigged with that pedal alone already and had tons of fun.
Some outstanding pedal suggestions! I completely agree with you about the importance of a looper pedal!
I have a programmed my TC Electronic Sub'n'up so that the Sub1 and Up controls give clean output level until the dial is at 12 o'clock and then add drive for positions > 12. The Sub 2 control mixes in a chorus effect (one could also choose a flanger or vibrato). It's not what I would normally consider a multi-fx but it certainly offers a lot of flexibility: traditional classic Octave down, POG-like poly octave, distorted up and/or down, a clean chorus and the option of mixing it all together.
Thank you so much for featuring our service 💛 much appreciated!
Who's best, Moises or LALAL AI?
@@steinhalvorsen_ we're sure, there are no competitors for our algorithm 💛
Man the BP1 caveman preamp sounded so good compared to everything else...
I expected the Noble to be closer to the caveman, but the caveman is just on another level.
Love the videos !
What a wonderful video! 💎
It will probably be my T-Rex Quint. I mainly play in 3 piece groups that are classic/jam rock to 90's rock type of rhythms. I use it with varying settings between different songs. The 5th and +1 up really helps with the more driving songs and filling in the sound. I can turn to my amp and hit a button for an overdrive channel.
Thanks Great video !!!!
Proud owner of the BP1 Compact , and it does NOT disappoint!
I could do the whole gig with no pedals, one tube amp and one guitar, but if I were allowed a pedal it would be a boost. One of the klones like the Tumnus. Job done.
Excellent video.
JHS Pulp N Peel. Great comp, eq, and dirt. With the dirt at min it gives you tube amp tones. The eq goes dub to grind.
This is the kind of hypothetical nonsense I spend my days thinking about. It’s great to see professionals making videos like this.
Obviously, the sane, sensible choice is a tuner, specifically, the Peterson StroboStomp HD, the best tuner on the market.
But, supposing you mean “besides a tuner”, then the answer is dependent on what instrument I’m playing and what I’m playing it into. I will also assume that my next choice, which would be a proper DI, in my case a Countryman Type 85, is also not the kind of answer you are looking for.
So, since Janek is a bassist, then I will say that for me, on bass, the “one pedal” would be a compressor, and in my case, that would be either my Boss BC-1X Bass Comp or my tc electronic SpectraComp.
And since this is me I’m talking about and I play a piezo bass and use Boss pedals, then I’d be taking a Boss BCB-3 as my pedalboard, which means that after the TU-2 tuner and BC-1X, I have one more slot to fill, so I’ll put in my Boss AD-2 Acoustic Preamp, which sweetens up my piezo pickups and even offers a basic reverb.
Or, I could just take my Boss GT-1000Core.
Bonus advice 👌
Shin-ei B1G !!! Or UT&T Lab !!! Done. Went for quite a few years gigging with none, used a Zvex Woolly Mammoth for rehearsals for depth.
The Xotic bb preamp is an incredible guitar pedal. I wasn’t aware they did a bass version
Honestly for me its a tuner especially for live playing ability to mute the single and tune accurately is more important for me than any effect plus i do have the benefit of having amp with 4 band eq plus overdrive circuit built in but i do love my darkglass ultra pedals there phenomenal.
Since I play basically in power trio of instrumentalists, I would say my main one would probably be my DarkGlass Alpha Omega Overdrive
But my chain is: OC2 - EBS Compressor - Darkglass overdrive - MXR Filter - MXR Chorus - MXR Carbon Copy Delay
I´m reconnecting with digitech bass synth, great option.
What influenced you to start using effects and pedals? Is there a favorite brand of pedal if you had to choose?
Boss ODB-3. I'd have to have that or an HM-2 (which is great for bass).
My basses are rock solid for staying in tune, so I could get away with no tuner and though I use a compressor pedal, I could do without it and use my amp's.
If a volume pedal counts, I'd have to go with that. I'm a volume swell junkie. I can get dirt at a couple of different levels outta my amps (one Orange OB-1 and one Peavey VK-100 that I pretend is a 5150 running simultaneously). Other than that, maybe a DL4 or my Boss MO-2.
OK so my first gut reaction was compressor. After that, if I had to pick one petal, I would absolutely without a doubt, pick a Flanger because it’s so incredibly versatile. You can get chorus sounds, you can get phaser sounds, you can get flanger sounds you can even get a pseudo-tremolo sound out of a flanger pedal. I don’t see how a looper pedal would be a very good first choice, but that’s just my opinion. And what am I? Just a loser with a bass and a phone.
Compressor for me!
Great Video! (:
One pedal. Boss odb-3. Such an underrated pedal cheap and does the job In so many ways. Fuzz- overdrive- distortion- preamp-clean boost. Don’t know about you but that pedals been in my board on and off since 2005.
Great pedal! Was a constant for me for many years
I don't know if the Source Audio Spectrum counts as a non-multi-effects pedal but that would be my only pedal.
If it doesn't count, then my OC-2 Octaver or Digitech Ricochet.
For my rock gigs, all I need is my Hartke Bass Attack 2.
I’m on my way to a gig tonight with no pedals! It’s a support slot so trying to make it easy for the sound guy. If I had to take just one - Cali 76 comp. :-)
He's making it a challenge but I had no pedals for 5 years lol 😂, I've bought a pre-amp and IR loader, do you think I made a good choice?
Boss SD-1. Done.
Compressor (assuming I'm not allowed to use my rackmount or in built one in the amp). I like the sound of my amp, so don't NEED a preamp. It's already got drive, eq, DI out and cab sim...
Such a beautifully made video to have so few views!
I’m honestly kind of shocked that you haven’t gotten super into the line 6 dl4 mk2. Has all the delays and reverbs of the stomp. The one button looper mode is very much like having a simple ditto looper. Can still have tap tempo with external pedal while using the one button looper. Can tweak setting’s on the fly with an expression pedal just like the stomp. It seems like the perfect pedal for you. Also for Bob because it has a mic input and I’ve seen him using the original dl4. The stomp is great as far as versatility but honestly it’s a nightmare for me to tweak on the fly in my opinion.
hi Janek, I am real beginner and I want to play bass like you. Do you think I should join your lesson now or find a teacher to learn some basic? I am not sure if I am able to understand your video? maybe too professional for me?
My Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor Pedal.
MXR Octaver. I don't use it too much but I would really miss it if it wasn't there.
The only pedal I can’t live without is the MXR M87 bass compressor
It's almost cheating but lately my answer would be the Walrus Badwater pre-amp pedal. Incredible tone shaping natch, but wait, there's more! (Lol)
Also included is a lovely compressor (always on if active) and a multi-voice distortion with its own switch from the on/off master for the entire pedal!
It took my BDDI off my board, and that's saying something.
If i had to pick just one pedal it would be a wah, playing Mostly on Ashdown amps i have the sub harmonic and drive and a nice equalizer,so something like the Morley Wah Lock or a Boss Auto-Wah would do the job for me!
Nice options to have built into the amp!
A sansamp or really any good preamp for me. I went with no amp for a very long time.
Do you have a specific “fly rig” or a combo of small/mini pedals that you use?
Definitely. I just got back from a couple of weeks on the road with Steve Smith, and used basically the same setup as I do with my own band. It all goes into a Pelican 1510, and is built onto a Vertex Effects pedalboard with a riser. It clocks in at around 35lbs so there are no issues with overweight, but almost no matter how I build it or protect it, the baggage handlers always find a way to destroy it.
I'm going to do a new build in May for upcoming touring over the summer, and I hope to find a better way to mount everything so the TSA dummies can't mess with it too much.
Tone Hammer.
How highly do you recommend using a compressor?
All depends on what you're looking to get out of the music. Compressors are amazing tools when used in the right situations. If I was on a straight-up pop tour like Charlie Puth perhaps, I could definitely see a number of use-cases for a compressor in my setup. When I want complete control of the entire range of my instrument though, especially in the improvised settings I find myself in as a band leader, I tent not to have the need for one so much anymore.
Epic
For me, the most important pedal is a tuner.
If I could buy every guitarist and bassist one pedal, it would be a tuner. Everything else expands from there.
Wouldn't want to live without*
If I can gig well with no pedal, then there’s 1 pedal you can go hard with
THE one pedal is the BOSS CE-3 Compression Sustainer.
I never gig without it.
I've had the same guitar (not bass Synth) Synth pedal for years, it sounds absolutely amazing. I have plenty of other pedals and banks, but I love my guitar Synth pedal for my basses.
I need to make a video about this as well! 😅
I have a few options, actually. And, as always it all comes down to the gig (and the budget)
My no 1 choice would be the Darkglass ADAM (although, that might count as a multi effect?) - and if that one isn’t allowed, I’d go with the Darkglass X7, the EBS MicroBass 3 or the Suncoast NanoLab, depending on what distortion flavour I would prefer for said gig :)
boss DS1 i use it on bass guitar pianos. the only one that holds a candle is a Rat.
TCE Flashback. Lot's of options for delay and a looper. Would love to see a run down on your pedal board from the Steve Smith tour.
Will probably do something soon as that pedalboard is coming apart, and a new one is being built.
Wich one? Oh my little son...a huge bag carrying all of them...
👍👍👌
haven't seen the video. oc2.
Sansamp
i love how your 3 categories has nothing to do with budget. must be nice to not have that boundary :)
Does lvx count as a multi fx? lvx anyway. - executive decision.
Amazing pedal from what all my friends have told me. Definitely want to check it out, and I'm sure it will make an appearance in a video in the not too distant future if I can get hold of one.
For you, I’d have guessed the octaver… 😜👍…
You would have thought right...? It was a close call, but ultimately the long-term and wide-ranging use of the looper won out.
I’m just going to guess boss oc 2 now and then start watching the video
A solid guess... it was touch and go, but I had to go with the looper in the end.
No no no… do NOT bring any Ph-3 at your gig or the funky guitarist will steal it from ya, I had one like that… I brought some cool pedals and he always found they sounded cool with his vintage telecaster, specially the PH-3 because we played some soul-funk things 😂
Yeah, I don't use pedals.
I’m pleasantly surprised this wasn’t an add for a fucking tuner.
