My grandfather(on my mother's side) had one of the fastest ice boats during prohibition,(as of 10 or so years ago the ice boat was still in use by a new owner) would deliver alcohol to a bar or club in Point Place in the winter, they had a light they would turn on if it was ok to deliver or not deliver. I wish when I was a kid that I actually would have listened to more of what he told me.
My grandmother(on my mother's side) made dresses for parties on the "Old West End" and talked about the parties they had and how, with all the money sometimes she did not get paid.
I was young and dumb and never thought much about the local history, now I wish I would have listened.

this is a great overview of an era that some Toledo natives would rather not discuss.

Great story about Toledo OC! James "Jack White" Licavoli, cousin of Yonnie, ran the Cleveland mob after he was run out of Detroit and Toledo. But that's another story!

My grandfather ran booze from Canada to Toledo for the Purple Gang. He retired as a cop.
