The problem with Abby’s choreography here is she assumes every flexible dancer is an Acro dancer it’s clear Abby misses Brooke and shes trying to find someone to replace her
Well my mom is really good friends with Lori and my mom asked Lori about the far East routine and she told her that Abby wanted to do a ballet or contemporary routine called the hidden dragon but producers said no Lori even said a lot of the girls were given there weakest skill to make others look better.

I think Abby using a dancer's race or ethnicity to create a dance that really shines for them is great, but this solo is traditional chinese in music and costume. Jade is Vietnamese. It's important to know your dancer's background when giving them a culture-based dance, because if you dont, it can be viewed as pretty racist or stereotypical (like the stereotype that all asians look alike)

abby is typecasting bc jades FIRST and ONLY solo used asian culture-yes, it would be worse to have a non-asian play this role, but it’s exactly how abby ONLY gives nia solos/featured roles in group routines that have to do with her skin tone. What abby should do is treat jade as she would any other dancer-give her all different styles and costumes and choreography so that jade gets a comprehensive dance education rather than give her only asian dances due to her asian skin tone. In addition, abby doesn’t do the proper research that would show respect for jades culture (jades vietnamese, abby used japanese music), but instead abby saw her only as the broad descriptor of asian and gave her a dance based off this single aspect of her identity.

Jade is a beautiful child and I thought her dance was amazing. Very elegant. I don't understand why her Mom and Abby were upset. Obviously every mom wants her daughter to take the top title, but shouldn't she be proud of her daughter for just doing her best and having fun?
CeltycSparrow To me, it seems like Jade’s mom wasn’t necessarily upset that Jade got 3rd, but upset that Abby gave her her very first acro solo since she was 8, causing her to place lower than normal and consequently making Jade look like she’s not an excellent dancer. Jade would’ve probably done better if she was given a choreography that exemplified her strengths and practised acro in the studio until she was more confident and comfortable with it.

@@lbwnova6654 Jade IS an excellent dancer. But even excellent dancers can't place first every time. There's ALWAYS going to be someone out there who dances better than you. For example, even Maddie, as beautiful and gifted a dancer as she is, DID occasionally place less than first in her performances. But she used that as a motive to try harder for next time.

Jade is a contemporary dancer with incredible flexibility. So acro is very easy for her. However what would complement her well would be some dances that show her control more than her tricks

Believe it or not, there are people who are more flexible than her, but I agree that you won't come closer to a professional acrobat. Brooke was a master at the subject- even if they're are people who didn't have the same physical problems after puberty.

honestly loree had some pretty understandable critiques. the stereotyping, inconsistently loved type of dance style, and then going from 1st place to 3rd? like yeah your kids not always gonna win, but if my kid got 1st place all year, went to a new studio one time and got 3rd i'd be less inclined to continue at the new studio.
