Follow the money... What Rep. Jarvis Johnson is saying is exactly correct. The intention with Abbott, et al., is to cast aside free public education in favor of either charter schools, or tuition-based schools; both of which have a high profit yield for mostly Republican investors.
Isaiah should start by investigating the Texas funds sent to Colorado.
I sincerely feel sorry for anyone raising children/ grandchildren in this country. At the mercy of so many incompetent, racist, abusive and mentally ill adult and other children. From the bus driver, to the bus attendant, the school faculty, parents, medical professionals, mentors, coaches, law enforcement and other relatives. Poor babies so vulnerable at every turn. 😢😢😢😢😢
.....including Princioals, Asst. Principals and other administrators on campus. Don't play favorite. They are all incompetent. The school board and the city council members past and present. Mix state with school. Now it's a problem. They all are about their own personal gain , money. I do agree with State Representative who requested the State takeover. Miles maybe not be the right person , but black community schools were/are failing. These people speaking do not have children attending these failing schools, otherwise they'd be talking differently. They want the best for their children , why wouldn't another parent(s)?

The public schools are a joke and there should be a lot of so qualified teacher that need to be fired and held accountable about time

Mike don’t really care about who’s qualified. He’s following the charter school model to save costs. Qualified doesn’t matter anymore. Your kids’ education doesn’t matter to them anymore. Money does.

The principal in my granddaughter school refused to reapply so they moved him and he was a good Principal... but a year later and kids are Doing good 👍 Some other school got a Better Principal 👍👍 That lady doesn't even know Why she hates Mike Miles or what he does...3 Democrats taking Bad about a Republican and Fox 26 not having a Republican up there..2 sides to every story..
Take a look at Mike Miles background - he was a political appointment to further Abbott's agenda. Mike Miles experience as an education leader is nonexistent. Governor Abbott is determined to implement a two tiered education system: one for generally wealthier families who can take advantage of his vouchers, and then too bad for everyone else - especially in the flyover parts of Texas.

Ha! Yet parents don't say anything about their own kids. Student behavior isn't what it was many years ago. Parents don't parent anymore. They treat schools like day cares. And parents want to get mad that layoffs are happening? There are teachers who don't want to teach but lets talk about layoffs. Should raise tax rate in Houston and see who complains next.

Mike Miles is the head of HISD leadership… you know, that’s why they call it a superintendent. Was HISD great before he came in? Heck no. There were systemic problems and a change was needed. What teachers and students and parents are upset about is the lack of transparency from Miles. The amount of times the goalposts change in what he and his Executive Directors want is astounding. Every week or so, there is a new thing they want implemented. The sad part is that many of his ideas are great! The problem is he is expecting this change to happen lightning fast. He has been extremely shady in his firings and continues to push his private ventures (charter schools) instead of did devoting his time solely to this district.

He would not have the job if they were doing theirs.

Why can't people send their kids to private schools, not only the rich, but the reliy, wanr a moral ethical education for iur kids. We deserve vouchers, we pay raxes as well
Private schools don't need to be expensive. In my opinion privatization of education will be in the near future. Education is a luxury not a right.
My kids go to private Jewish School.
Tuition is $650 a month per child, must pay for 12 months, as teachers have to live all yr.
Plus transportation
A very very big expense.
Yet neccessary for us religeous Jews who have a totally different curriculum, yet religeous Jewish kids who go to religeous Jewish schools, score higher on academic levels.
But it's a very big strain on the budget.
Why shouldn't I get a voucher?
