Us humans are hardwired for predators in the dark, it's natural to be scared. I am more scared of chavs in my woods, than spirits of the dead, aliens, etc. haha... Chickens lips and arseholes.. ;)

Plus, we are hardwired to see faces! In a knothole, in the rug, in the forest, etc.!

True but they also hear every single thing which can be even worse. Arse end of nowhere in Cropton Forest once, my eldest dog (border collie) went full Cujo style snarling, full teeth and viciously barking, semi lunging and snapping at something right there in front of us which she could see but i couldn't. It was like the Blair Witch scene where they run out from the tent in blind panic I just legged it and yelled at her to follow.
Camera trap thing we'd put up for recording foxes captured what was the most eerie, terrifying little hedgehog that ever happened to mooch past for his supper. *A single, solitary goddamn hedgehog*

    • @CharlotteWeb100
      @CharlotteWeb100 4 года назад +2

Speaking of the foxes in woods If you've never heard one, a fox call in the middle of night sounds like a woman's blood-curdling scream not even kidding either it's the most terrifying thing I ever heard first time at 5am in local woods with the dog. Dog didn't even move, bark or move a muscle either we just froze. Horrible.
But yeah if you do head off solo camping for some reason it's wise to read up a bit on what wildlife is usually found in those parts, where seen, calls they make, best places to see them or avoid them whichever.
I can't even imagine the fear someone would feel hearing that for first time whilst camping out alone in the middle of a huge forest. A literal shit in the pants.

Lovely video mate... I was impressed with your modified fertiliser bag hammock! Clever... I've used a zoom recorder they are brilliant... They are popular with war correspondents.. I use them when shooting documentaries... Never thought of plugging in my anker portable battery pack though.. Smart thinking. Your drone shots were beautiful.. Do get a tree attachment wildlife cam... They are great fun... Some other kit recommendations are a petzl nao headtorch... Expensive yet mind blowingly brilliant, sealskimz gore tex socks are great for keeping your feet dry... Oex or dd hammocks are cool too... Yet I appreciate you may not wish to hump that weight to your secret spot. What is the story with that footprint... For a while I thought it may be a soft welly boot print yet there was no heel on it...that tree had rot at the bottom... Funghi can cause rot too near the bases... I often camp solo in a double hooped bivvi and hear muntjac, fallow, roe, and foxes barking at night... A haunting yet magical sound... If you create an arc of tuna juice near the wildlife cam you may draw foxes in nearer the night wildlife cam just a tip... Fun video.. Camp safe... Dont forget to check the nearbye widow makers.. Dead trees... Stay safe... Your snoring made me laugh on the recording but atleast your a good sleeper in the wild!

Hi Alex, thanks for your comments. I have a trail camera and have recorded foxes and deer in the forest but I'm more of a paranormal researcher and don't use it much, although the tuna smell is a great tip. I have heard unusual sounds with the Zoom H6, on my last camp at Harwood. I recorded what sounds like the name Christopher being spoken twice, (link to file in description) the first sound at 2 seconds which was very faint and louder at 6 seconds. I don't know what to make of it but my best guess is, it’s something intelligent trying to communicate. I'll link to the 9 second audio file on my Google drive if you’re interested. I also have the high quality unedited wave file, its 1 hour long and 2GB in size. It's there incase anyone wants to scrutinize the recording. The footprint I found was from the same place the sounds were recorded, it looked old and damaged by the water in the stream, which had risen and eroded much of it, but I could see a general impression of where the toes would be. I don't know what made the print but it’s strange there was only one and not a track full of them.
Harwood Forest sounds, 9 second clip: drive.google.com/file/d/1Gmj0SPk4AfbJjFnBbUdNY5e47wtSKpMN/view?usp=sharing
Harwood Forest sounds, original 1 hour long, unedited audio wave file. The sounds are at 15.50

Regarding the noises around the camp, heavy-sounding thump at 17:30, then it sounds ike either birds wings flapping or a small mammal struggling.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  Год назад +1

Going off my field recordings, most sounds of bird activity is easily identified at dawn, such as pigeons flapping wings etc.. Birds roosting can be startled by me through the night. I realise most of my audio recordings are likely natural, other than the human like voices I've also recorded which defly explaination in my humble opinion.

Quality mate! - I reckon you're on to something in that forest. Ive been watching your Vids for a while and I reckon you should keep pushing that spot for its potential. The tree breaks, the audio and the footprint are very interesting. I think Colorado Bigfoot, Bob Gymlyn and Utah Saquatch would approve! The UK still has its Wild places despite all the haters. Damian its the geese at night arranging the branches....messing with your mind mate lol. But seriously you never know what could cross your path one night, here in Leicestershire many years ago i was walking my then two German Shepherd dogs on a lovely countryside eight mile circuit that ive done many times, its quite remote, dont see many people, it was getting close to dusk when out of nowhere a black panther raced across the path i was walking on chasing a muntjac deer. Thankfully for me my two dogs were worn out after a hot days long walk and were trailing a good 100 metres behind me and din't have time to react because it happened so fast. Again because it happened so fast i didnt even have time to be shocked, i was more stunned, for days i never said anything thinking i must be mad, i made excuses that it was a large dog or fat household cat, but i knew 100% it was a black panther. Eventually i talked to local game keepers , even a local policeman, and farmers and they admitted to myself that over the years they had seen a panther themselves. I checked online and found that there is a Leicestershire Big Cat Society that logs sighting in what is known as 'the panther triangle', this panther has been sighted by lorry drivers, local drivers and again policemen on duty. Up to that time i had never took interest in any big cat sightings etc, but i can tell you now it has made me more aware of what could be out there. This happened in 2009, i have never seen it again since even though i walk this area over the last 8 years since. Hope that doesn't worry you anymore ...... atb Bill

    Good vid mate as ever.
i do like the way you have a combination of proper camping gear. And making stuff out of old junk. So many on here are all about the gadgets. which is fine, im all for gadgets. But its nice to see someone doing like we did when we were kids.
Keep up the good work. and once again, good luck with that yeti. try rodster6 youtube channel. His halloween vid was very interesting. i'd bet if he came out with you he'd find that yeti in no time at all.

Just having a closer look at your vid, pine woodlands are always a bit odd, camped in one recently and the dead fall looks more like a war zone. im not a fan of pines at all, uneven ground, lots more flying bug, ants and all that.
give me a beach woodland any day. but you have us all thinking for sure.
or maybe yar just avin a bit of a wind up like?
either way i enjoy your vids, dont forget to check rodstar6.

Spooky? Love the video and youre sense of adventure but come to Canada, hour and a half drive from Calgary in Kananaskis area and now you’ve got to worry about a grizzly bear the size of a VW bettle, thats stress, thats spooky.

Damian, I would invest in a couple of trail cameras mate. See what is moving around you. It's always an eye-opener. I always take one with me.

Fox in the camp Deer making the screaming sounds as for the broken tree's just wind fall they end up interlocked in unusual ways when the wind blows from one direction and snaps one then the next strong wind from another direction drops the other,I'm not saying that everything strange is down to nature or idiots playing silly buggers I just don't see anything other worldly here keep an open mind though mate the truth is out there!

So weird because is so silent and is not alike nature grows up. It is modern 'Green Deserts" based only in owner's and or contractor's benerits, any animal spieces like to live there but a bunch of bugs. Nice video mate! ATB.

u are risky guy- i would do following
    - make sharp sticks pointing out all around me
    - make fires around me and one in center
    - have access to climb tree right away as last resort
    - pray
    - go with at least 3-4 people
    - have night watchperson turn by turn
    - in case of attack have fires around me
    - have weapons handy
    - leave signs just in case so someone can know i was there

Its all about controlling negative emotions like fear and paranoia. Keeping a positive frame of mind and not get freaked out by strange sounds you're not used to. I tell myself, if anything wanted to harm me after many years camping alone in remote places, they've had plenty of opportunities to do so by now.

What's in the forest, well what type of forest are you in, is it close to meadows where larger animals can forage for grass and flowers and at night maybe make a little noise. There is nothing to be afraid of there's no food, nothing, the ground is mostly barren and covered with needles and not even birds live there. It's a barren nothing and the only noise you'll hear is owls, maybe, ground rodents, that's it, don't worry about the boogey man, or made up crap to scare you a nice 1911 takes care of a lot of problems, try it sometimes.
