A scene from the film Sympathy for Lady Vengeance in which Geum-Ja has a talk with her daughter, Jenny. Another one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.
this scene is a literal fucking masterpiece, especially the part when she says "atonement" in english, i don't know why but her persistence on pronouncing it the way she does even after the murderer said the word correctly makes the whole scene even more dramatic, brings me to tears
The way he translates. Especially, the pathetic acting he pulls as he translates makes me puke. As if it’s some kind of a fun role play. It just shows how crazy he really is.
@@cheols Right! Especially when he started imitating her cries. Like, it truly makes you step back a little when you realize that he's probably been doing this type of acting for years...Infront of the victim's families, infront of the other teachers and infront of the kids he taught. Just sick.
It's so hilarious that Mr. Baek, the culprit behind all this fucked up mess, also translates Geumja's emotions in this manner of speech. This was the first black comedy I've come across in film.
The reason why the girl folds her three fingers in the last scene is because she is counting the number of the apology she gets from her mother. She asked her mother this to be at least 3 about abandoning her. Mother says sorry 4 times, and after listening to the confession, daughter gets to understand her mother. Quite impressive scene. The ironic point is mother makes this whole translation through the murderer who caused this all to happen.
he was an english teacher at the kindergaden. but I think it is her method to not to tell him directly (that he will gonna be killed) so that he could feel the scareness and guilty. and at the same time make him realize himself that how bad he was.
This is one of the best films ever made. It's a true shame that only a handful of people ever watched it in the West. The Vengeance trilogy (of which Lady Vengeance is the last movie, the other ones being 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' and 'Oldboy') is simply outstanding cinematography. Unlike other trilogies, this one gets better with every movie.

I insist, the best scene is at the bakery, the birthday song, the angels of their children keeping quiet them. Awesome.
@@umsiyeon oh i see, so the real murderer take a advantage on her. This movie got dark side understanding that got me confused. Btw thank you for replying.
Not if you had gotten pregnant in high school and dropped out because of it, then became the prime victim in a child murder case, and ended up spending thirteen years in prison for something you didn't do. You know, like she did.
You can learn a language in high school and still not be able to fully speak it fluently...you know that, right? Many Americans cannot speak a lick of Spanish, despite that being the ONLY foreign language taught there.

It is just amazing how Baek just translates the whole interaction like it is not about him, just amazing

well he kind of does have a reaction when she mentions "after I'm done with this man"
😂😂😂 so true shows how narcissistic and dead his soul was😅

If you commit a sin, you have to make atonement for that sin. I‘M LIVING FOR THAT LINE

I cant help but bursting in tears when watching this scene. ;(
So impressive, sad and beautiful.
I'm using this for my film studies essay, just this one little scene - thankyou ever so for uploading it!

The audience wants to know how it went!

Hold to show this to my teacher for video edting classes.
내가 걔네 엄마한테 미안하다고 얘기해줄까?
クムジャさん大好き!こんな素敵な女性になりたい

Is jenny's pose and expression a reference to a Tears for Fears music video "Mother Talks"
요즘 이런 영화 안만드나요 ㅠㅠ
Did the Jenny (the girl) stayed with her mother or left for Australia? And who is the girl's father? That teacher Baek?
박찬욱과 같은 국가 사람이라는 게 영광스러울정도다.
