I think before going to buy a car in mombasa check if you can get it cheaply in nairobi ama kwenye uko because it makes no sense to get a car from coast when you can get it at Nairobi.
The prices in jiji are very manipulated and most are posted by brokers. I once went to buy a 2013 Toyota hilux Vigo in Mombasa, the price on jiji was 2.7M but when we got to Mombasa the lowest deal we got was 3.5M. The person who had posted it was a broker not the showroom's owner. I got very disappointed.
This is very helpful and Wokabi has demystified everything accurately. I bought my car in Mombasa, i had credible contact person and went to a credible dealer also i had an experienced guy with cars for check up.

My first car bought in mombasa luckily as I came from nai I had a trusted broker and a yard. Then I paid the tracker my self and we shared the pin.. My offer was higher than the loan so I had a say on the deal
😂😂 serious buyers only, kuna mtu anaweza kuwa anakuja Mombasa ziara! # Thanks for mentioning social media kwanza hio OLX is very dangerous, I find CHEKI more legit. Also the best thing about Mombasa showrooms is that they are easily accessible and have better welcoming sales people where you can view the vehicle firsthand before making any decision.
I bought a car in Mombasa from a roadside dealer. I had difficulty in changing ownership at gover . The seller was not owner of vehicle. Ilinisumbua sana.
A quick question for all the car guys over here Vw jetta vs subaru legacy sedan year 2014 ish vs corolla 2014. Which is better in terms of functionality, durability and maintanance (ranking them from 1 to last 👍🏾
Very odd comparison here, but anyway... First question is what is important to you? Status? Speed? Reliability? Resale value? Price? Jetta has good status, but resale value will be terrible especially if you are the first owner and reliability is also pretty bad as with most German cars. If you dont know (and don't care )what a DSG gearbox or VCDS is, this isnt the car for you. Also most come with 1.4 or even 1.2l engines so unless its a 2.0 TSI somebody in a Mark X will embarrass you. Subaru is reasonably reliable, but can be abit costlier than other Japanese cars. Speed depends on the engine you get. There is abit of a stereotype if you care about that. Resale is average. Toyota is the safest choice, but its boring. And these days Toyotas cost the same as Mercedes so the price is bad, and resale wont be that good if you are busy buying a premio for near 2 million. My take, get a Subaru Legacy (wagon, not sedan) and depending on where you lean in the performance vs fuel economy scale, chose one with the appropriate engine.
Brother Wokabi, I see you look so tired, I can read it from your eyes. I know it's because of the long road trip. Take a good rest and consider some eyedrops.
Hahaa on the spot: Kimbelembele 😅 Same thing with plots and land. Wewe kataa kuchukua na market price ati "umepata kwingine" Heh! The kind of stories we at Optiven hears daily... Anyway, karibuni sana Optiven 👌👌
This Mombasa broker conversation...that situation is interesting. There are these guys who just sit around and expect that the car yard owners will share their revenue with them. There are also the guys who source you the buyer for the car yard owner...and get paid for it. Then there is the broker mechanic who will make a deal with the yard owner to up the cost of the car at your expense. It is completely bonkers
