I'm a CPA, this guy sold his previous holdings to buy doge which probably had short term gains and losses and if there is a loss it would help offset some of his doge short term gains. If he sells off 180k of his doge the basis is not 180k but would be the price he bought each doge coin, 4.7 cents per coin.

Selling only what you invested is NOT a return of capital that isn’t taxed. It wound be taxed. Second, if you move to a different state, u would be taxed at the state’s rate when you sell. Doesn’t matter where you were when the investment was made. It’s were you are when you sell and realize the gain.

So, I would take profits, but keep the base initial investment in. Shaving profits under $1M would help avoid the higher tier tax bracket.

The taxable amount is the total you sold the coins for minus the amount you bought the coins you're selling for. You're both wrong :p Your cost basis is based on the price of each individual coin when it was bought on a first-in first-out basis.

My issue with dogecoin is that unlike other cryptocurrencies it has no end in sight, in other words, people can just keep mining it for life. It's like a stock that has too many stocks in float, no matter how much people buy in odds are that your money will not grow much.

I'm a CPA, this guy sold his previous holdings to buy doge which probably had short term gains and losses and if there is a loss it would help offset some of his doge short term gains. If he sells off 180k of his doge the basis is not 180k but would be the price he bought each doge coin, 4.7 cents per coin.

Selling only what you invested is NOT a return of capital that isn’t taxed. It wound be taxed. Second, if you move to a different state, u would be taxed at the state’s rate when you sell. Doesn’t matter where you were when the investment was made. It’s were you are when you sell and realize the gain.

You are definitely wrong about the tax. His cost basis would be (tokens sold)/(total tokens brought) multiplied by $180,000.

Being “Paper Rich” is different from actually being “Rich”. That guy is paper rich, until he liquidates. With that said, the tax-man can’t tax you on Paper Richness, until you sell-off. So, I would take profits, but keep the base initial investment in. Shaving profits under $1M would help avoid the higher tier tax bracket.

Andrei, the tax one would pay would depend on whether the investment is considered LIFO (last in first out) or FIFO (first in first out) by the IRS. For crypto, I am leaning towards LIFO, so gains would be taxed first. Please consult with a tax advisor.

I say that staking crypto is miles ahead of dividends. You can stake and get daily payouts and there may be a lockup period but some places allow you to do soft staking (where there is no lockup period).... Check it out.... The taxable amount is the total you sold the coins for minus the amount you bought the coins you're selling for. You're both wrong :p Your cost basis is based on the price of each individual coin when it was bought on a first-in first-out basis.
Or selling all doge for usdc, busd, or usdt. Stick it in BlockFi. And earn an 8.5% apr. 1mil would bring you $85k a year while you’re doing nothing.

My issue with dogecoin is that unlike other cryptocurrencies it has no end in sight, in other words, people can just keep mining it for life. It's like a stock that has too many stocks in float, no matter how much people buy in odds are that your money will not grow much.
