I love finding new bands. I'm surprised at how heavy they sound without being in a lowered tuning.

Definitely. It's interesting to note both bands formed around the same time in NYC. Helmet were probably a little more commercially accessible. Unsane had a more bluesy feel and were scarier to audiences. Both great bands all the same.

A.J. Meyer Betty was super bluesy for a Helmet record, also my personal favorite of theirs. Unsane is like the purest form of musical nihilism though.

Don't get me wrong I love Unsane. But Helmet... commercially accessible ??? They struggled for recognition for such a long time ! And they are worlds ahead of Unsane in terms of creativity. You can't even compare...

@muthahoho Yeah I didn't think they were hardcore. Maybe you should give Mastodon another listen. They're a great band of extremely talented musicians. Unsane's just a little too simple and angry for me. I do like Unsane though.

Well, first of all, Mastodon isn't "hardcore," so what's your point?
Second of all, I happen not to like Mastodon, so in my opinion Unsane crushes them as well...
Not to bash you, but getting hung up on technique is a waste of time. There are plenty of technically great musicians that couldn't write a sold riff to save their lives. Mastodon was pretty coo at one point, back when they were raw, but now they're lame and commercial. That doesn't happen to bands like Unsane.
