I think far too personal, but what is not helping is he belive he can't be scare and be invinsible but when meet someone who far powerful then him, rader to learn of this and see him too can know fear and learn how to overcome his fear, he choise to become a monster, Shadow him a learn from his nightmare, this is why he strong , he know he can be scare, this is why he fight to protect all he care for not see what a made him in pain in the first place(maria death) him too a mostly become a monster but he remenber the promise of maria, this is why is know a good guy but in his way, now he got a better live, he got friends and a rival, Sonic and Shadow are friend and rival(more rival then friends but shadow will never say from other this) Maria will be happy to see him with friends, not like infinite who care only him self and power, i think shadow will far worst then infinite if he follow the same path then infinite(the dark way) Shadow follow the light and help everyone he can on his way for a better live, he dont want other live what he a live, he care a lot of his friends(mostly Rouge and Omega but he will not say it, well he stubing guy) shadow is in basic batman in sonic game!
@@koroallie5583 yeah but if infinite remained just a normal jackal squad leader none of this wouldve happend lmao, if it was sonic who fought he'd also easily beat the shit out of him and then ask him to challenge him later lmao
@@emerylsg lmao that just shows that Sonic and Shadow are Goku and Vegeta. One defeats his villains but still somewhat gives them another chance while the other beats the shit outta his villains and dismisses them as pathetic
Actually that's Rouge's kick, he just stole that move and got more popular with it :D Idk why he uses it anyway, Rouge have to do the roundhouse while flying because it gives her acceleration and makes the kick stronger. For Shadow it's inconvenient and it slows him down. Nevertheless, it's nice to see both of them doing this move in the final battle-cutscenes
Concerning he went from being a highly-confident "ultimate mercenary", or whatever he called himself, to being effortlessly wrecked in three hits and being called pathetic enough to the point of not being worth finishing off, it was probably a pretty big turning point for him in his mind. Also his encounter with Shadow explains why throughout the game he lets people live because they're too "pathetic to finish off." He loves leaving people with the feeling Shadow left him with.
Also I know this old but when he was wrecked effortlessly, then called weak and pathetic, I took his rampage as "I'll never let a single soul make me feel like that again, I'll make everyone else feel what I felt and worse, and prove to them that nothing is above me"
ToonerShy i doubt it- without Infinite, Eggman would just have the Phantom Ruby all to himself, not having to share that power with a living catalyst...
To be entirely honest, i kinda like Infinite's character. His untouchable, high-and-mighty deal is as much of an illusion as the powers the Phantom Ruby grants him are. Underneath it all, he's a damaged madman with an inferiority complex the size of the Space Colony ARK...
@@mrvoice3436 Eggman had a working copy of the Phantom Ruby that he was willing to test on the first power-hungry dipshit to volunteer. and Infinite was a power-hungry dipshit who was still on Eggman's payroll, and was open to being experimented on. End of story. It's not like it'd trouble the Doctor anyway like Chaos and other such monsters did in the past. the Ruby Eggman jammed into Infinite's chest was a phony powered by the real thing, which Eggman was still in control of. If Infinite ever pulled a "Neo Metal Sonic" and tried to overthrow Eggman, the doc could flip the real Phantom Ruby off for a minute and deal with Infinite, who would be depowered back into his old, 'weak' self.
Uhhhhhh no, at least Mephiles was a demigod Eldritch monstruosity who could take the form of anyone. Infinite is just some pretentious shitty self insert Gary Stu
Showgingah He was the ultimate mercenary that had a really big pride and ego around him, and Shadow just came of out nowhere and defeated all of his jackal squad and beat the living crap out of him like nothing, then he called him worthless and weak… i think that's enough for wanting revenge and more power
ThePerfectChaos Then why aren't we shown even a small glimpse of why did he earn that title, what other events triggered him prior to Shadow. Or who the hell is Jackal Squad ? By having Shadow the root of his angst, it's just lazy as fuck writing, and by throwing at the player all these informations without any depth, it's a cop-out. Not even the online comic solved these issues. In fact, it made it even worse.
An insult in response to him failing to avenge his squad. I think in any other situation he probably would've walked away with some hurt pride. But he first was too powerless to save his squad and when he tried to hunt down the one responsible for it he was too powerless to avenge them and he even got scarred and humiliated for it. I can totally see someone lose it and become obsessed with power after all that.
I don't know weather it's ironic or symbolic that Infinite viewed himself as weak, then he gained the power of creating illusions to become more powerful. Probably using the ruby to make an illusion on how he wanted to view himself.
Actually, that's exactly what the concept could've been, because like it or not, even 06 had metaphors. Concept doesn't equal to level designer and how a story is executed.
@@ayyylmao101 Dude has a whole comic thing on him as far as I remembered, but people shouldn't have to hunt down comics to find out more about this dude. They had a chance to give him a backstory with Shadow's Episode but THEY DIDN'T-
And also, do know rest of you but I see almost as an insult to put someone so emotional (being good at contain it is not the same as be emotionless) and who had strugledd a lot with his identity and sense of empathy like Shadow, on an illusion and not doing anything with that. I actually get bottered that a kick ass theme like support me used in such a kick ass moment for the plot of SA2. Just ofr it not having anything to do there, in green hill, when no one is not even in a similar sittuation, like... I dont know, giving Shadow and Infinite rivality a reminisence to Shadow resurging after 50 years just to destroy everything, because he hates evryone, like, Infinite taking the role Shadow had in that game with very different powers but similar motivations.
Shadow called him worthless and told him never to show his pathetic face again so Infinite basically took it seriously by changing his whole identity and I think when Shadow meant by worthless he mean not even worth fighting so he technically called Infinite weak
No Eggman says that and Sonic says "Blow Up?!?" After Shadow and Sonic fight. Plus you can hear White Jungle's theme in the map before Shadow beats up infinite real quick
Shadow's side of the story always seems to give him 1st dibs of the bad guy doesn't it? He went back in time to kick Mephiles' ass, resulting in Mephiles looking like him, then we get to see Infinite before his change, who he also beat the ass of.
It also doesn't help that every time they give shadow a connection to a villain it takes away from the fact that the villain is supposed to be focused on sonic Sonic and Infinite have no chemistry compared to Infinite and Shadow arguably this could've been Shadow the Hedgehog 2 if it was just a more contained plot of Infinite VS Shadow
Jake Tylenol well depends...you cant have shadow the hedgehog2 without Guns and ride vehicles...(you never do that, thats is the Shadow we all know and love)....plus the fact he's a solo act/and an Edge lord)..lol
@@BlackPrince24 Again, he took interest in Sonic because Sonic IS the renowned hero he is, and he sees him as the strongest. He wants the satisfaction of taking over the strongest of them all. He defeated Shadow, and lost interest in him.

Execution could've been better, but I like how the Phantom Ruby reflects Infinites psyche. His inferiority complex and his dwindling mind shows what the ruby is doing to him.
What if Infinite was already under the Phantom Ruby's influence before he met Shadow. Maybe after Shadow beat him, the pain and humiliation Infinite was put through caused him to be completely under the Phantom Ruby's grasp. Kind of like a drug or alcohol addiction. What if to Infinite without the Phantom Ruby he's nothing, afraid, weak.
"Should've hired some defense squads for the defense squad, eh Doctor?" As cliche as that it, this just suits Shadow in my opinion. His serious and deadpan delivery of his humor is one of the things I relate to the most about him."
Chris Taka Shadow isn’t a villain... Sure he is Shadow the edgehog but he is a hero. He has always been tried to look like a villain by Sega but he never really actually was an anti hero... in the end he always did what’s best either for who he cares about or for the world. Just saying.
I thought of an interesting interpretation: Both Infinite and “Buddy” are individuals that don’t have a massive effect on the world at the start of their path, and both want means of becoming stronger for those they care about. Infinite, after losing everything he had, decides to take revenge on everyone and get as much power as he can, simply by using an item. However, Buddy did it differently; Buddy may have lost in the beginning to Infinite, but he took that chance to start anew and help people who were losing hope themselves. Instead of simply trying to acquire power, he decides to grow from his failure and become stronger. The moral of the story is; you need to work hard for what you want. That’s why Infinite failed in the end; he didn’t work hard and simply used manipulation to acquire power.
savage diamonds (Shadow kicks his ass) Shadow : How pathetic. Get out of my way, weak fool. Infinite : he called me ... weak? WEAK?! I'm... I am not weak. I am not Weeeeeeeeeeeaaaaak!!!!!!!
So Infinite became *UBER EVIL* simply because Shadow hurt his little fee-fees by calling him weak and pathetic? God, Sega, nice villain ya' got there. Don't get me wrong, I still like Infinite despite this (after all, not his fault that the writing is bad), but the fact that this is his backstory is beyond underwhelming.
It's not even that it's not complicated. Simplicity would've been fine. It's just the fact that Infinite is so pathetic that makes him lame. He's a very interesting character and that backstory just has terrible character motivations and story telling. He just got kicked in the face by Shadow and decided "I wanna destroy the world now."
I'm fine with simplicity myself, I'm just saying what I was _hoping_ for, not what should have happened. Though, better motivations could have made his character a tad better. Regardless, he still acts and looks menacing, and truly villainous. He acts legit evil. It's kinda nice.
@@StickDisfigured In Sonic 06 he isn't edgy, he goes through Character development and only insults Sonic once, and all he does is say "Same to you" when Sonic says "Don't be late", he doesn't fall for Mephiles which Edgy Shadow definitley would have, and he is legitimately sad when Sonic dies and needs to train his head away so no one sees it.
@@Breakaway-ic5gj that's the best shadow in my opinion, cares about his friends and allies, he also cared when he saw omega on standby mode in the future, and he's also edgy but not too much like the boom counterpart that thing was too much lol, helped sonic when silver was about to kill him, I don't remember much more since I haven't played that game fully yet, and I've only seen clips

You do realize that the one black edgy boi is supposed to be the ultimate life form created by Eggman's Grandfather to be the ultimate chaos control based weapon, right?
7:57 for anyone who didn't notice, the same move set Shadow usd against Infinite pays homage to Shadow the Hedgehogs stat screen cutscenes where he is fighting the Black Arms. Look it up if you don't believe me because the move set is the exact same not even mentioning how his teleport is the same as what was shown in the cutscene.
it is said, according to the sonic Wiki, that Infinite has an inferiority complex, due to how he reacted to Shadow calling him weak. I might be wrong, but I believe that it's actually the other way around- that Infinite has a superiority complex, and it seems more reasonable that Shadow's statement and victory made Infinite so full of rage, because he was bested by someone stronger than him. the fact that Infinite used to call himself "The Ultimate mercenary", supports his superiority complex.
He's so insecure about his strength that a single loss caused him to reject his entire identity before Infinite, going as far as to cover his face. This means he feels weak in comparison to Shadow and can't handle that. He's so bad at handling that, actually, that he wanted to make Shadow think Omega was dead and generally terrorise the global population, as well as potentially ruin his body with the Ruby. ... So, yeah, that's an extreme inferiority complex.
First off, he’s a jackal not a wolf. Second, if you say they’re the same animal, they’re not, look ‘em up. And third, Infinite’s real name is actually Zero, there’s an official Sonic Forces comic that clarifies this, unfortunately it doesn't do the same for his backstory
While I love infinites design character and personality in forces and he has become one of my favorite villains in the franchise. Hi I have to admit his backstory looks like it was made by a middle schooler in 1 hour.
Okay, I like Infinite and all, but for the love of God can his character please be more fleshed out in the IDW comics? He has a serious inferiority complex that he covers up with his ego, seems to care about his squad, yet at the same time he wants the world to burn and we never really learn _why._ Couldn't they focus on _one element of his character?!_ Though I love his reality manipulation abilities and his fighting skills, plus his design is awesome.
"A Not-so-tall, dark and brooding guest" It finally happened, shadow just got insulted even deeper...at least Infinite didn't go as low and mention Maria.
This is the third time Shadow kicks someone, first there was Silver in 06, then Tails in Boom: Rise Of Lyric, and now a weak version of Infinite in Forces.
Yo Shadow killed Infinite's squad and he failed to avenge them and got humiliated by Shadow, why are people saying this backstory is underwhelming ? Shit's dark.
Good premise, but poor execution. Not to mention in the main story, he essentially talks a lot of shit and gets hit because of it. Basically, Infinite has a lot of style...but not so much substance.
Probably because they weren't mentioned to be killed just beaten badly. "Totally wrecked the defense squad." and "You destroyed my team!" could have meant Shadow broke the team and the Jackal Squad could have just been disbanded
I hope they release an episode where you play as Infinite, getting to see his face, more of his origins, and maybe his fate. And get his outfit like you do with Shadow.
Shadow was literally the reason Infinite was created and thus the catalyst for the entire plot. There should have been more interactions between them in the main story.
Edit: Just saw the newest Forces comic. Guess that explains the “unslightly” face. Does live up to his theme song “only scars remain of who I was”. I really like the fact his eyes are heterochromia. Still doesn’t justify the fact they couldn’t reveal this in the game or include his Jackal squad for more depth after they were defeated. So... a mercenary and captain of "Squad Jackal"... Yeah. they're still leaving a lot to be desired for Infinite's backstory. -And why call your own face "unsightly" unless there's a good reason to. (like a scar or missing eye, perhaps.)-
In one of the hidden. Panels of the momment of truth comic, it shows infinite without his mask, and he does have a scar on his eye, soo.... there's that.
It's like they pulled off the shittiest fanfiction written by a kid and made it canon. Who the hell is this Jackal Squad ? Since when Eggman hires mercenaries ??? And who the fuck is he..... "The Ultimate Mercenary" ???? Bitch, we never saw you before, never heard you before, and the only mercenary Sonic has ever had was Nack The Weasel. Plus, his motivations are just ungodly pathetic.....
THIS IS HAPPENING Infinite is still a shitty character in his own right. But goddamn, post Sonic Colors writing is fucking awful...... They had ONE good writer, Shiro Maekawa, and they fired him.....
THIS IS HAPPENING You mean from the concept art? It’s possible. But I like to keep in mind that concept art is usually to convey ideas and not necessarily the final product. I won’t be truly convinced until we see 3D rendered face reveal. Or rather... “if” we ever see one.
I think Infinite is a brilliant villain and breath of fresh air. He is somewhat relatable being mentally damaged instead of just being all evil and all powerful. The noises his powers make are so badass. I do agree about things being executed poorly though, I mean Sonic Forces would have benefitted greatly if we could have wiped the Jackal Squad out as Shadow and if they had focused more on exploring the dark elements of the story that were hinted at in the game, it was poor character development not having Sonic emotionally affected from his imprisonment and the mass destruction of the Eggman Empire. I also feel it was a wasted opportunity to not have villains like Mephiles and Black Doom as replicas.
@@bakedbeans5494 Don't be a pice of shit because if this was a comment about how he hated infinite you would not type this. Just because he understands people views on infinite does not mean he need to agree
Is no one going to talk about why Eggman thought it was a good idea to send regular jackals after a hedgehog he knows dang well is a man made weapon? And then has the audacity to get mad when they're defeated by Shadow with ease. 🤦♂
BCkhaos For Level 1 I thought that music sounded familiar. I thought it was Cosmic Fall at first, but it's actually Westopolis remix. Thanks for pointing that out. P.S. - It's nice that two songs from Shadow the Hedgehog were remixed. Let alone paying a homage/tribute to Shadow the Hedgehog game.
Im actually pretty satisfied with Infinite's backstory. Something might've happened to him before Shadow kicked his ass. 'Ultimate mercenary'? Eh, he must have a reason to be so sure of himself.
Ealena IrTube As am I because they didn't take a predictable route and did something that they did before. My only complaint about Infinite's story is that they could elaborate on it more. Maybe we'll get a sequel or an episode Infinite dlc for that, I don't know.
Infinite:I’ll show you why they call me the ultimate mercenary Shadow: I beat you up in 1 piece that’s why they call me the ultimate life form you weak pathetic person don’t show your face around me ever again
The reason why Shadow doesn't know Infinite (former Jackal Squad leader; the Ultimate Mercenary) anymore, because he still put his past behind him forever similar to Shadow the Hedgehog (2005 video game). He doesn't care.
Do not forget Infinite was an captain of the jackal squad and perhaps very strong if you compare to Antoine, Infinite would perhaps demolish him, but someone against Shadow, Shadow has the advantage because he's the ultimate life form and clearly he had more power than Infinite while using his chaos control to teleport each times of his strike
I kinda expected Infinite to be like...our custom character but evil? Or at least artificially made from the ruby. But its kind of understandable from where Infinite is coming from. He was the BEST mercenary in his squad, which causes a superiority complex to form. Seeing your while team get....Shadow'd (I'm not sure what Shadow did with them) and get your butt handed to you after being called the best is really pride damaging. Still, he could've been more. But this is kinda fine.
Don't think you get it though, Infinite became much more powerful by means of Eggman and the Phantom Ruby. How do you know if Shadow is powerful than Infinite after that? Like Infinite said, he was reborn into a more powerful foe.
I'm not sure if anyone would read. But I have a personal head canon that might make some sense to infinite's story. (Note: This is my take and theory on infinite's full backstory and its going to be long.) PRE-INFINITE PERSONA (ZERO): Before becoming infinite his real name might have been zero. Because in his earlier concepts sonic team originally called infinite that name. So I will assume that zero is infinites true name. Zero was a jackal who must have grew up in a deserted area. Zero was an ordinary anthropomorphic jackal individual who wanted to make a name for himself by becoming stronger. And make a name for himself from his goal and efforts. Zero had joined a mercenary unit were he was trained to fight and be a swordsman. Then he later formed a band of mercenary team called "Squad jackal" or "The jackal squad". Throughout the years zero and his squad has raided many bases then has taken lots of bounties from his efforts, he has fought many battles earning him a scar on his face, and normally succeeding in his long term history of fighting. In his entire squad zero was very well respected that they have given him a name that he had earned. "The ultimate mercenary" for his boldness, fearlessness, his leadership skills, and in terms of combat he was strongest jackal out of the entire squad. And they all looked up to zero. As they think as long as they have him they can survive and achieve anything. However zero took all of the respect he was given by his squad for granted. Zero becomes arrogant, overconfident, full of pride, and he started to have a superiority complex. Zero is so proud of himself that he never thinks of himself ever being considered weak. He also had a hidden goal other than just stealing, fighting, and collecting bounty like an ordinary outlaw. Deep down he wants to take control and gain superiority over the entire world. Zero also found the world he lives in as dull due to the things he had seen and encountered over the years of being a mercenary. Taking the term "Some men just want to see the world burn" into zero's perspective. How he knew about eggman: One of zero's spies spotted a strange facility and he or she decides to investigate without being seen by eggman. During the time eggman, orbot, and cubot was too busy studying the phantom ruby to check on their security. Which is how the spy was unable to get spotted. After learning about eggman and his base, the spy returns to zero and gives him intel about dr. eggman's base. Zero took interest in eggman's technology and he is sure that it will all be worth a fortune. The rest of the story is in the comic. Next thing i'm going to theorize other reasons why zero became infinite other than just getting defeated by shadow. Plus how things went down When shadow had raided eggman's facility. The jackal squad tried there best to stop him but shadow's strength was enough to put them down for good in just one blow. Shadow was utterly disappointed in how weak the squad was compared to him. But he continued his mission by destroying eggman's facility. Afterwards shadow contacted rouge and omega telling them that the mission was completed. But zero confronted shadow to not only follow eggman's orders but to avenge his teamates by taking out shadow himself. But was beaten easily. After losing to shadow zero's pride had been completely broken. It was his first time being afraid of something, He was known to always coming out on top no matter how many battles he has been in the past. And he was known by his people to be STRONG. But now at that moment zero lost all of his squad leaving him the last one standing. He lost all his respect for himself as the ultimate mercenary when shadow made him look weak. After throwing his tantrum, zero had no choice but to report back to eggman that shadow had got away. Eggman was furious at zero for being to weak to stop shadow and he makes fun of his name. By saying "I guess you were given that name for a reason after all". Than eggman also insults his deceased squad. Zero was even more disgusted in himself now that eggman given him that insult. And for eggman insulting his friends zero wanted to lunge and punch eggman in the face. But he calms himself down a little as he thinks that it will only make matters worse for himself. However, compared to his squad eggman still had some interest in zero. Due to his persona for power. And anxious to see the world to change. Eggman makes an offer to zero. The offer was for eggman to infuse the finalized phantom ruby prototype in his body. That way zero would become stronger even more stronger than shadow could ever be. But there is a catch, after all the time eggman had studied the phantom ruby eggman figured it out that it can corrupt a person turning them into a different version of themselves. Once zero takes the power of the phantom ruby he will no longer be the person he is now. (In sonic mania the phantom ruby changed the hard boiled heavies from being ordinary eggman robo's into a gang of powerful and rebellious robots.) Zero at first was hesitant in accepting the offer because he thinks that using an item to become stronger is another sign of weakness. BUT then he thought to himself that if he turns down the offer eggman will no longer find any use for him anymore. Leading eggman to kick him out of the deal for wanting to change the world as how zero wanted it. Once eggman does it zero would have nothing to gain from his actions. All of his squad is dead so he would become a lonely individual. He could train hard to get revenge on shadow but he has no idea how to counter shadow's chaos control. So no matter how hard zero trains, shadow will still defeat him again and this time shadow will not spare him. So this was an offer that zero could not refuse so he accepts. But in exchange, zero asks eggman to create him a mask so he can be able to change his identity. Which eggman has done so. (This situation is somewhat similar to Griffith from berserk franchise becoming femto. Because like Griffith, zero views himself as weak and no longer can achieve his personal goal. Although Griffith was tortured. The jackal squad is zero's own band of the hawks. As he uses them to help achieve his goal to steal every loot he can find. In order to gain money for a future that he desires to have. However zero soon started to care about his squad due to having a bond with them from his missions.) Eggman created zero the mask of infinite. Which zero puts it on and against his own judgement he puts the phantom ruby on his chest. Then once the phantom ruby had activated due to zero's desire to get stronger and achieve his goal to take superiority to the entire planet. Zero became a changed person from a man who wasn't always evil into a true embodiment of pure evil. Changing his name from zero to infinite. (Zero: A name of person who once was strong and respected mercenary out of his pack. Is now the name of a weak and worthless individual who can amount to absolutely nothing. A name of a being who was born weak in infinite's perspective. Infinite: A name of a monster who was born strong. Limitless power and superior to every living being on the planet. A name given to a being that is full of pride in himself for his own power. And a name given to a being that is calculated to be highest level of energy over all power levels known to man. That is how infinite views only in himself.) In correction to the statement iizuka said about the character. Infinite wasn't always evil BUT he wasn't entirely innocent either. POST-INFINITE PERSONA: After infusing with the power of the phantom ruby. Zero is dead and infinite was born. Unlike zero who did have some care for his own people. Infinite doesn't care about anyone but himself. Infinite is much more cruel, dangerous, arrogant, intelligent, ruthless, and he now develops a personality to become sadistic as he loves to spread fear upon others. Turning one of zero's biggest downfall into one of infinite's most villainous goals. Besides his much cruel nature, infinite still wants to share his partnership with eggman to conquer the world. When infinite could betray eggman if he really wanted to. Well that's how I see infinite. He does have a ton of potential to be one of the best characters in the sonic franchise. And I really want to see him again in the future games. Plus I hope IDW gets the chance to go into more detail on infinite's character. There is a lot of things sonic team could do with infinite in the future.
Mysterious Diety Jackal, his name was Jackal. Still glad this wasn’t buried in the comments section but thank you for probably stating the obvious in what everyone thinks happened to Infinite after the whole “I AM NOT WEAK” crap
I'm impressed! I love the subtle references to all of shadows past inclusions in sonic games. Down to the main menu theme of shadow the hedgehog in the dialogue between missions, and even the combo he does in the intro. I even heard the radical highway theme in their somewhere! For 40 bucks this game is great. My only complaint is how short the levels are and that they removed the drift. Linearity isn't a problem, 3D sonic games have been linear since adventure 2 anyways. I also love how the story is a throwback to the old adventure narrative. Game is an 8.5 for me! Had a blast being 12 years old again lol
You know what I find a bit strange? Some people criticized the ranking score for completing the stage faster, than exploring it. Isn't that specifically what supposed to the trademark of the games? To finish the stages fast?
Date Masamune it's odd, but trademark of old sonic games was exploration and different paths. Rewarding speed for the players who knew their stuff. Modern sonic has been in a confusing place and we aren't sure what direction they are heading.
The issue is that a lot of those alternate paths are punishments, not explorative. Your reward for being skilled is going fast via the topmost path. Your punishment for messing up a jump is going to a slower paths down below. The exploration reward is the special stages, and this game doesn't have those mid-stage
Spiny Justspiny can't tell if your post is directed at me or OP. I don't play alot of modern sonic games, but the bottom path is the most dangerous one in all sonic games as you've said. if you are talking to me then..... manias praise was also based on the numerous paths. For survival top path is typically the best, but that's only really huge for speed running honestly. Going the top path doesn't always lead to fastest things for speed running. Lot of the paths have their own different quirks and are unique enough on their own. You can still die on any path because of its own quirks. Just the bottom has the pitfalls.
Date Masamune yes...and no, Sonic games were designed for high speed yeah but it wasn't like it was condemning you for exploring at the same time, so long as you weren't standing still for too long. In fact speed use to be a reward for sonic games kinda like an in game difficulty slider that only adjusted to your gameplay. For being good at a level you went faster, And it was up to YOU to have the skill to keep up that momentum or you'd start back from square one whenever you got hit or failed to clear an obstacle that's how I took it anyway. Speed is Sonic's staple but it was more so because that's what the games rewarded you for BUT THAT SAID, in sonic forces what people are complaining about is, It doesn't take much to go fast in this game, nor even S-Rank it I've seen most youtubers get S-Ranks on their first try, And that's not rewarding at all, Sa2 introduced this well actually because you had to earn speed in these medium sized stages that relied on quick reflexes but also high speed exploration. Which is why people complain this game is too linear actually. There's nothing rewarding when the game is only giving you one path to go on at top speed with so little time In fact the length of the levels contradicts the point of going fast in sonic games Expansive level design is how I personally feel you counter Sonic's speed in modern gameplay because it's worked before. If sonic can only go so fast going the main path at top speed, and your still getting B-Ranks, C-Ranks, then it encourages you to make your own shortcut use the expansive level design to your advantage it makes you want to explore by default this game isn't designed like that the only thing that makes you wanna explore is the red rings But the entire incentive is based around if you actually care about your OC and nothing else Cus that's all they unlock other than extra and special stages that are even shorter. It's not a real reward for anyone who couldn't give less of a shit and limits replay-ability for the audience that doesn't.
I think it wouldn't been better to somehow show a bit of his past. Maybe the Jackals push each-other extremely hard to be the best they can be, so Shadow beating him and calling him weak would've cut really deep. Maybe he also chose to wear a mask because subconsciously he didn't want to show his face again after he was beaten, or some shit like that. Without a backstory like this it kinda just feels like he's a total edgelord. Which he is.
This isn't a bad backstory, it's actually very well done. The whole "I'm not weak" thing is because Infinite had such a high ego and to see it just completely obliterated into non-existence (Via Shadow) and getting called patehtic and worthless, I'll bet that would make you scared and hurt as well.Infinite has an inferioirty complex and he hide sbehind greeat power (The Phantom Ruby)when in reality he is weak. This is what makes him such a great villain.
And how do you explain him wanting to destroy the entire fucking world? And Eggman even caring enough to help him, after the rest of squad was so pathetic and Infinite gloriously whooped by Shadow?
@@cleversmart0303 him destroying the world I say is his way of proving that nobody is above him because, you know, nobody can call or prove you weak if you killed everybody who even stood a chance against you, and I took Eggman helping him as he saw a potential way to use Infinite's desire for power as a way to manipulate him into a weapon to defeat Sonic
Infinite: You took everything from me.
Shadow: I don't even know who you are.

Makes sense
So Shadow basically causes sonic forces by being so strong he literally made infinite piss his pants. Reason number 4,578 why Shadow is a badass.
ToonerShy i doubt it- without Infinite, Eggman would just have the Phantom Ruby all to himself, not having to share that power with a living catalyst...
He'll piss the floor XDD
ToonerShy that and Shadow wipes out, all of Infinite’s squad.
Zero not Infinite. He wasn't Infinte when Shadow fought him. His name was Zero.
Exactly
To be entirely honest, i kinda like Infinite's character. His untouchable, high-and-mighty deal is as much of an illusion as the powers the Phantom Ruby grants him are. Underneath it all, he's a damaged madman with an inferiority complex the size of the Space Colony ARK...

Eggman had a working copy of the Phantom Ruby that he was willing to test on the first power-hungry dipshit to volunteer. and Infinite was a power-hungry dipshit who was still on Eggman's payroll, and was open to being experimented on.
Also, anybody else get freaked out when Omega repeats “I AM NOT WEAK?”

Mischievous Yroo
Check Sonic Forces comic 4
"All it takes is one really bad day to drive the sanest man alive to lunacy."
--The Joker, The Killing Joke
Jamarcus Davis "All it takes is just one bad day and you'll be just like me" -- Scourge the Hedgehog
Jamarcus Davis in my opinion, it was only one insult, and it sounded like it drove Infinite insane in the dialogue
SFMDude56 an insult combined with his entire team being killed by shadow
An insult in response to him failing to avenge his squad. I think in any other situation he probably would've walked away with some hurt pride. But he first was too powerless to save his squad and when he tried to hunt down the one responsible for it he was too powerless to avenge them and he even got scarred and humiliated for it. I can totally see someone lose it and become obsessed with power after all that.
If you see the comic, you will see that Infinite was already a little looney.
I don't know weather it's ironic or symbolic that Infinite viewed himself as weak, then he gained the power of creating illusions to become more powerful. Probably using the ruby to make an illusion on how he wanted to view himself.
yeah that's more than sonic team thought, but at least it's poetic in the fan's minds.

I thought of an interesting interpretation:
Both Infinite and “Buddy” are individuals that don’t have a massive effect on the world at the start of their path, and both want means of becoming stronger for those they care about.
That’s why Infinite failed in the end; he didn’t work hard and simply used manipulation to acquire power.

it is said, according to the sonic Wiki, that Infinite has an inferiority complex, due to how he reacted to Shadow calling him weak.
Oh that actually make ton of more sense.
The two often go hand in hand. He has a superiority complex, and through that Superiority complex he develops an inferiority complex after he loses.

If you notice, the first stage of shadows story has a remix to the westopolis theme from Shadow the hedgehog video game.
And, Radical Highway.
Is it just me or does Infinite sound EXACTLY like Gaara from Naruto
Edit: Oh shit it's the same voice actor XD
Yes they sound alike
Same voice actor
Bryce Hudgins he also sounds like Gaius from FF 13-2.
Bryce Hudgins He also voices Yasuo from League of Legends
He also does Asura from Asuras Wrath... but no one remembers such a badass game
"Do it to it."
Hey, I get that reference.
Is no one going to talk about why Eggman thought it was a good idea to send regular jackals after a hedgehog he knows dang well is a man made weapon? And then has the audacity to get mad when they're defeated by Shadow with ease. 🤦♂
sonic forces au: everything’s the same expect eggman is voice by alfred coleman

Infinite: Why am I wearing this mask?! Is this some cosplay or something?

Is that the "Shadow the Hedgehog - Options Menu" remix I hear?!
Every song here is a remix!
Level 1 is Westopolis
Level 2 is White Jungle
Level 3 is Biolizard
BCkhaos For Level 1 I thought that music sounded familiar. I thought it was Cosmic Fall at first, but it's actually Westopolis remix. Thanks for pointing that out.
P.S. - It's nice that two songs from Shadow the Hedgehog were remixed. Let alone paying a homage/tribute to Shadow the Hedgehog game.
The world map is the theme from Shadow the hedgehog PS2 main theme
I love what SEGA did for Episode Shadow, brings back memories.

Damn, props to Infinite’s voice actor
Liam o brien.
He’s also the voice of Gaara from Naruto
I KNEW HE SOUNDED EXTREMELY FAMILIAR!!!
The Biolizard......and various Themes of Shadow's solo game......THE CALLBACKS ARE SO GOOD!
Is it just me or every time shadow delivers his iconic roundhouse kick it’s in the most epic way possible?? This is why he’s my favourite
The Shadow spisode was one of the best parts of the game. Sega should use Shadow in the games more often
That combination he did on Infinite was in the intro to Shadow!
Ismael Hernandez I noticed that to
Nice easter egg good job Sega for that!
When i was playing last night I freaked out
"Chuck Norris roundhouse kick: everybody dies!" ...I hope that joke isn't going to be the end of me
I noticed that just earlier today.
If Infinite, was leader of a squad called jackal squad, would that make infinite a jackal
yeah
he looks like a wolf
Yeah, jackal.
Didn't somebody guess that correctly?
Precisely
Im actually pretty satisfied with Infinite's backstory. Something might've happened to him before Shadow kicked his ass. 'Ultimate mercenary'? Eh, he must have a reason to be so sure of himself.
Ealena IrTube As am I because they didn't take a predictable route and did something that they did before. My only complaint about Infinite's story is that they could elaborate on it more. Maybe we'll get a sequel or an episode Infinite dlc for that, I don't know.
Shadow murdered the jackal squad only a few survivors where left after his attack.

Jeez, Infinite not only has Garra's voice actor, be also has Garra's Character.
Because that is what I want for a Shadow level. A fucking waterslide for 75% of the stage.
Joel Walker well you play as shadow on all other modern sonic level after you finsh them
Its basically just Aqua Road with more obstacles and Gold Motobugs.
Mike Anthony And the white jungle theme is playing.
The reason why Shadow doesn't know Infinite (former Jackal Squad leader; the Ultimate Mercenary) anymore, because he still put his past behind him forever similar to Shadow the Hedgehog (2005 video game). He doesn't care.
Yeah infinite is over hated, he just needed a proper backstory and mabe this scene could have been more effective

Wow, before the Phantom Ruby, Infinite was a little b*tch! HE’S AFRAID OF SHADOW! Well, it’s normal to be afraid of Shadow but...
ishbot yeah. It made me disappointed. I thought Infinite was cool and BETTER than Shadow!
SeansDerpyStuff O.O ikr such a dissapointment
Damn, Infinite, hamming it up to the highest degree.
Infinite is so terrifying. I love it.
I'm not sure if anyone would read. But I have a personal head canon that might make some sense to infinite's story. (Note: This is my take and theory on infinite's full backstory and its going to be long.)
PRE-INFINITE PERSONA (ZERO):
Before becoming infinite his real name might have been zero.
How he knew about eggman:
One of zero's spies spotted a strange facility and he or she decides to investigate without being seen by eggman.
Plus how things went down
When shadow had raided eggman's facility.
(In sonic mania the phantom ruby changed the hard boiled heavies from being ordinary eggman robo's into a gang of powerful and rebellious robots.)
Zero at first was hesitant in accepting the offer because he thinks that using an item to become stronger is another sign of weakness.
However zero soon started to care about his squad due to having a bond with them from his missions.)
Eggman created zero the mask of infinite.
That is how infinite views only in himself.)
In correction to the statement iizuka said about the character. Infinite wasn't always evil BUT he wasn't entirely innocent either.
POST-INFINITE PERSONA:
After infusing with the power of the phantom ruby.

Infinite is probably set up for a sequel. Or this will be sonic rift, the new sonic game
Shadow was the worst opponent Infinite could've deal with...
Infinite is so sad and lonely

I feel bad for Infinite and he needs a friend also feel bad that his squad got destroyed.
Papa Seck,

I gotta say, Kirk Thornton does a much better job of voicing Shadow here. He sounds a lot less like Kisame from Naruto.
Austin Hicks I’m pretty sure he does Gaara
As well
I agree on this
Dhruv Man that’s infinite lol
I agree...It's been forever since we had a fitting voice for shadow...but he's at least doing better this time.
Nice. Kirk’s toning down on the grime I’m his Shadow voice. Sounds a lot better.
Roundhouse kick to the head is pretty much one of Shadow's superpowers at this point.
You know what I find a bit strange? Some people criticized the ranking score for completing the stage faster, than exploring it. Isn't that specifically what supposed to the trademark of the games? To finish the stages fast?
Date Masamune same reason they criticized the timer in mania Some people want to see the levels and explore the secrets
Date Masamune yes...and no,
Sonic games were designed for high speed yeah but it wasn't like it was condemning you for exploring at the same time, so long as you weren't standing still for too long.
In fact speed use to be a reward for sonic games kinda like an in game difficulty slider that only adjusted to your gameplay.
For being good at a level you went faster,
And it was up to YOU to have the skill to keep up that momentum or you'd start back from square one whenever you got hit or failed to clear an obstacle that's how I took it anyway.
Speed is Sonic's staple but it was more so because that's what the games rewarded you for
BUT THAT SAID, in sonic forces what people are complaining about is,
It doesn't take much to go fast in this game, nor even S-Rank it I've seen most youtubers get S-Ranks on their first try,
And that's not rewarding at all,
Sa2 introduced this well actually because you had to earn speed in these medium sized stages that relied on quick reflexes but also high speed exploration. Which is why people complain this game is too linear actually.
There's nothing rewarding when the game is only giving you one path to go on at top speed with so little time
In fact the length of the levels contradicts the point of going fast in sonic games
Expansive level design is how I personally feel you counter Sonic's speed in modern gameplay because it's worked before.
If sonic can only go so fast going the main path at top speed, and your still getting B-Ranks, C-Ranks, then it encourages you to make your own shortcut use the expansive level design to your advantage it makes you want to explore by default this game isn't designed like that the only thing that makes you wanna explore is the red rings
But the entire incentive is based around if you actually care about your OC and nothing else Cus that's all they unlock other than extra and special stages that are even shorter.
It's not a real reward for anyone who couldn't give less of a shit and limits replay-ability for the audience that doesn't.
He was tired of being a weakling...so he got stronger.
I'm not seeing the issue here other than the origin being way too short.
David : Soul Food Gaming it petty. That’s why
Cause it's not explored so it comes off as winni
So Eggman and Shadow are the only ones who know how "Unmasked Infinite" looks😗...huh😐...
Light Winds Animation Productions Z They show his face in the Sonic Forces comic: Rise of Infinite, if you consider the comics canon, that is.
Lovely Lugia Leader of my own Cuphead Amino I do😀
I think it wouldn't been better to somehow show a bit of his past.
I never mentioned the points that you mentioned
I'm glad I mentioned those points, because those are some very important things.
The best part of Sonic Forces for me
