Wishing Mandy a speedy and full recovery, as a retired police officer I would advise you to report the matter to your local police, you cannot see the bigger picture, it's possible that others have had similar break ins and theres even a possibility someone has already been caught, report all incidents no matter how trivial you think they are, your information just might be the missing link police are looking for. Happy New Year !!
Sandy, this culprit who had a go at your garage, is a male, young, possibly two, and hasn’t the expertise to commit a theft. Probably a teen who is unstable, but it’s not a professional thief, or an older adult….the sent to the theft, or break-in, has all the hallmarks of an amateur…but do get a crime number to this as there might be others who are going through the same thing, but your looking for youngsters for sure….it’s not the work of a adult bike thief…or burglar…….if you have a police community support worker in your area, that’ll do, report it to them, that’ll get passed on, I’m not suggesting the Central Criminal Intelligence Agency….lol, but do make a crime report…….
I hope Mandy recovers soon. I like the look of your security devices, it makes you realise how vulnerable we all are when something like this happens. Looking forward to some better weather.
No Sandy.... You're not paranoid. You're like me mate. Analytical!..... The latch thing explanation ...Makes perfect sense to me. Wishing Mandy all the best mate. Rob.
Hi there Sandy and thanks for sharing your story. Please give our regards to Mandy wishing her a speedy recovery. Good to hear you have made it more difficult for them undesirables and new security helping to give you some peace of mind. With regards to protecting your bikes from corrosion , there is no quick fix. You are doing the right thing in investing the time to liberally coat your bikes in A.C.F . 50 . Any form of heating or dehumidifier WILL be costly to run. Accurately worked out ventilation will make a BIG difference in helping reduce the amount of condensation in the building.
I’m sorry to hear Mandy is in hospital. I’m in hospital too as I watch this. My youngest daughter has been unwell & has trouble with her kidneys. It’s horrible when someone has invaded your castle. Puts you on edge. I remember when I lived at home, early hours of the morning I awoke to someone jumping over our garden wall & I watched a man trying to break in to my dad’s garage. He soon legged it when shouted at him. That’s all it took lucky for me. Just take it easy
Wishing Mandy well, hope she improves and is back home very quickly. Stay positive Sandy, things (and the weather) can only get better and you'll be back out adventuring before you know it.
Sorry to hear about your wife mate, wishing her a quick recovery 🙏 Thanks for the mention buddy, come down to Suffolk and I'll buy you lunch in my local 12th century pub! 🍻
I'll let you know in advance of my planned visit to Suffolk Willie, I'll probably leave it til the warmer weather and try and book a campsite for a few days so I can tour around. Hope to see you on Shaun's livestream tomorrow:)
I don’t know how people can enjoy using something or enjoy profiting from something they know belongs to someone else. Here in rural central US it’s becoming more of a problem in small towns than it was not many years ago. Hope all stays safe for you and prayers for Mandy.
I hope Mandy gets better soon. Bad weather seems to bring on the worst problems. A little time in the sunshine is always the best medicine for me. If I can, I always try and plan for the sun on my face when ever it pops out from behind the clouds of winter. Your system looks good to me Sandy, I used to find that inconvenience was the biggest deterrent to a thief. When I was in Florida, I used to make sure all the electrical connectors had plenty of dielectric grease on the inside and a moisture block on the outside. Including the battery cables. Plenty on no start conditions were do to a perfectly clean negative cable that when removed was crunchy with corrosion on the inside. I would also note that a battery tender prevents sulfating in the battery, making it last much longer than a battery left to discharge on a regular basis. Absorbed Glass Matt batteries also did well combating this issue. All that say AGM. Get well and stay well, the sun will be back out soon.
Can't wait for the sunshine and warmer weather Jim, it will be nice to get back out there again but still we are in mid winter now, things could get colder but atleast the daylight is getting longer:)
@@WiltshireMan I watched the sun rise today on the first blue sky after a week of cloud cover. It was only 10 F but a walk in the bright light and snow did wonders for my hart and soul.
Hi Sandy sorry to hear you were burgled, my shed is an old sheep shed I used for lambing, its now my shack I have radios and computers and a whole host of other gear in it, In winter I have a heat lamp running at night it does keep the condensation at bay and having a light on could deter the light fingered sods. Keep up the good work Brian Ireland
Really hope Mandy is okay. Glad the new security is working out and giving you peace of mind. That protective layer you’re applying to your bikes is very clever and seems to work perfectly, always good to hear from you, take care Sandy.
I hope your Mrs is feeling better quickly. I think you've done sensible measures against the thieves. Give them multiple obstacles to take away opportunistic thievery and if they are more persistent make it difficult and alert you. Thats about all we can do short of a bank vault for our bikes and tools. I've had tools, trailers, and firearms stolen in the past. Happily the firearms were recovered about 3 hours away from me at that time and they caught the guy, who was a relative of a neighbor. My garage isn't insulated and I'm in a coastal area that is cold/humid/wet. I do the coatings but the dehumidifier was the best thing. I dump almost 2 gallons every day and a half to two days in a car and a half size garage. When I was away on vacation for a month in November I hung up four of the huge DriRid bags. They were full and the concrete floor was damp when I got back. Luckily the bikes and my tools looked good. I was impressed by the DriRid so I put a couple in our old 1976 Airstream to help it out. They aren't cheap either, about $13usd per bag.
I wonder how much it costs to run a dehumidifier? I've heard they aren't cheap to run? Hopefully with the mods I have planned for my garage in the new year things will be better:)
Hi, Sandy. Sorry to hear about Mandy. Life is full of ups and downs and hopefully things will improve for you and yours. Thanks to your inspirational videos, I camped out twice in these cold conditions and enjoyed it. All the best, Dave.
Sending best wishes to Mandy for a speedy recovery. Maybe see you before the winter's out for a hot-tent camp. I've very nearly completed the lavvu mods.
Hi Sandy. Sorry to hear about your wife and i hope she gets well soon. Here in S. Africa, violent crime is ever present and all home owners have 24x7 security with online links to private Security Companies. I would set up the animal camera which you use for your forest trips. That may get photos to show the police. Stay safe Sandy. Don't advertise your security arrangements with anyone. All the Best from South Africa
I had a similar condensation problem, my solutions are to add a couple of solar powered extractor fans with battery to keep them going when little sun. I also run a mains powered 12” oscillating fan to keep air moving around. For some bikes I put them in large motorcycle size sealed poly bags with silica gel packs and humidity indicators and these have been a great help for classic bikes. Moisture seemed to get into the paintwork and start micro bubbling the surface. None of my actions cost much and the bikes all look immaculate when I take them out of the bags in the spring. Also the bikes are less visible and more work to get away with quickly.
Sending prayers to Mandy! You take good care of your bikes including security. My dad always said that if you take care of things, it will last a long time. Cheers!
An excellent video Sandy. Good update and thinking about it I live close to Suffolk so do let me know if you are heading this way, the roads are indeed lovely. Cheers.
Condensation is only usually an issue for me when there’s moisture getting in to the garage somewhere ie the roof ? Other little things that are forgotten about like a damp cloth or tiny amount of water in a bucket after cleaning or even a damp bike but slight ventilation is always an advantage rather than disadvantage. Airflow is imperative. I core drilled a hole in the brick low down and since then Ive had zero issues.
Glad to hear your feeling better with your security set up. Hope your wife is back home soon and feeling better. I agree with the issue about ringing plod. I'd prefer to ring the other emergency service and I don't mean the fire brigade. Roll on spring.
Hope Mandy gets well soon. Blood clots are definitely a concern. Good you beefed up your security Sandy. You could just report your concerns to the police, just so it’s noted, incase something else occurs. Oh, you just mentioned the insurance issue. I’d never have thought of that.
Ventilation is the first thing to do and see if it works for you, before any expense of heating. I keep bikes in a shed in Yorkshire and ventilation DOES work really well and it costs nothing to keep going.
Thanks John I hope your well, Mandy is back home now, still not quite right though. I've almost finished reading Ferulas and Thuribles now, what a Great read, quite funny, and also sad with those lads that died. Seems you was a Great mountaineer in your younger days and very skilled at leaving Umbrella's on high roofs, abseiling in tropical rainforests and even getting a snake named after you :) Hopefully I will be working on the 3mm thick knives this coming week.
my thoughts are with your wife and your self sandy. it's a crazy and sad world where we have to do this security to keep our home and belongings safe. but chin up sandy as always ❤
Hi Sandy, sorry to hear about the Mrs, hope all goes well. Its a sad world when you need to go to such lengths to protect your own property. Im going back 60 years and there a series of garage break ins, people had a good idea who it was but Dad had two railway spanners around 3 foot long, he tied them together and put up a trip rope when the door was opened. Next day claret everywhere, then we saw the suspect with broken teeth, split lip and flat nose. Dad said hi Cyril been in a fight, yes was the reply. Take care.
Sandy, Sorry to hear Mandy isn’t well. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Thanks’ for the security advice. I like the owl recommendation. If you do reconsider heading West and cross the Irish Sea for as few day’s adventure later in the year, let me know. I’d be happy meeting up. Des
I had a similar break in in May, I have a similar garage with up and over door, they were disturbed and couldn't continue. I'm 73 and that really upset me, like you I spent a couple of days updating security, I now have dead bolts in 4 locations on the door perifery, and an alarm, so it's 4 locks now insted of one. I only have 2 bikes, and I lock them together, plus I have machinery and tools that I've built up from 50 years of working. this experience made me ill, I couldn't sleep either so I can empathize with you. This was 3 in the morning like yours, that was months ago now and they haven't been back and I feel safer now bloody low life scum, doubtless never done a days work in their lives. Ok rant over, take care my friend best regards, Dave.
Thx Sandy for update. I'm sorry about your wife yes, God bless her and I hope you both are completely well soon. You're videos are always great to view and learn from and so any video of yours is sweet. I like the owls yes and need to invest in some. I pray yall wellness always in my Lord Jesus❤Amen..
I hope your wife gets better sooner rather than later, and good to hear there is no more drama regaurding the garage. Take care of yourself and your family. ✌
Enjoyed the garage chat Sandy. Got a few ideas about storing my bikes. I dont know how many years ago it was I subbed your channel but I've loved every video hopefully making the trip from New Zealand to your neck of the woods this year id love to buy you a beer.
Wishing Mandy a speedy recovery and it looks like you’ve set up some good preventative measures. You can only do so much to protect your property. It’s all about making it look like too much hard work for them and therefore increase their chances of getting caught. Family should always be your priority,so don’t worry about having the time to make videos. They can come all in good time once you get things sorted. All the best Sandy.
Hope Mandy soon recovers I had blood clots in my lungs last year not nice was put on medication to break them down I wouldn’t be showing the sercurty I have just make it difficult for the scum if they come back call 999 then they have a better chance of catching them thanks for sharing take care stay safe sending get well wishes to Mandy👍
Sorry to hear that Mandy is unwell. Hopefully won’t be too long before you can get her home. I can fully sympathise the last year has been one we won’t be sorry to see the back of, my wife has been in and out of hospital. Great tips on the security. I’ll really have to look at shed security to protect my cycles. Cheers, Bill.
Hi Sandy, I’ve got my vstrom under a cover in my garage, I got a few of those disposable dehumidifiers from home bargains there less than a pound each and dotted them around the garage and one under the cover. This seems to be working for me. All the best Craig.
Great update, can't remember how many cameras you got🤫sauna/cold shower repeated (expand/contract) shocks the arteries/veins and helps against clots and is enjoyable. Bottle of spring water in the freezer 3hrs before and your jaw will drop when she gets back😂
Hope mandy has a speedy recovery I know how you feel, my dear wife passed away 2 weeks before Christmas with heart failure, and the added strain of having to deal with security of your property to protect it from scum, is something you don't need right now, try and stay positive I no it's hard take care 👍
Feel for you both, stay safe and take care. Has been minus 9 C here in Argyll for a few days now, the wee dehumidifier and battery tenders have been keeping the bikes in good nick.
Firstly, best wishes to your wife, I hope all works out ok. I empathise with your not having much time to travel, iv been a carer for my wife for many years so every moment I can get out is appreciated, but it’s not easy that’s for sure.
I hope your Missus is on the mend, prayers for her. Canada and Britain have similar property protection laws, and it's a bloody shame that citizens can't use more active methods to secure their property, and when we do, we're painted as the guilty party. Strange times we're living in, Sandy.
Nice to see you again to see you sandy sorry to hear about Mandy talking pooly and in hospital yeah you right not to go out in this sort of weather to frosty to go out on all time of bikes unless you really have to stay safe and I hope your Mandy gets back on her feet stay warm one life enjoy blessed be
Sorry to hear about Mandy l do hope she gets well soon. Thanks for sharing the security measures, it has helped me being alone. All the best Sandy. Jan
Thanks Jan, I hope your doing well. Maybe get some of the Owls to put around your property and also a Ring doorbell that way you can see who comes to the front door, all these devices have given me some peace of mind :)
Hi Sandy,I totally get your concern & frustration with the break in,in an ideal world we dream up all kinds of deterents to ward off intruders,I could sit here all day discussing this subject but by the end we would both lose the will to live,I take my hat off to you for your tolerant approach, but I reckon an 80mm cannon wired to the garage door would sort the individual out in this world & certainly the next,if only, all the best to you & Mandy,Colin P
I wish your wife a speedy recovery. On bike storage/security - I like your idea of removing the motorcycles’ seats. Simple addition to making machines a little less attractive to any potential opportunistic lowlifes loitering about. I’ll be using that one myself. 👍
cheers Sandy , just what i need. had someone try my gate 3am in night a short time ago so those owls link just the job along with some other bits and bobs i added .
Been snowing here, about four inches on the ground. I got the push bike out in the cold for a couple hours. It was quite cold and a dry snow so going wasn’t too bad with the wide tires on the bike. Traction was pretty good but any more snow and it would have been too hard to keep moving. I was pretty happy to be able to climb all the hills even with the slick conditions, but was even happier to get back and have a warm cuppa!
Hello Sandy, first of all best wishes to your XYL for a speedy recovery and a safe return home, sorry to hear your story about the uninvited getting into your garage and the worry that it is giving you, the only thing that I would say is to be a bit `discreet` about the measures that you have taken but I can and do understand how you feel about this, many years ago I went through a similar situation and wired in an alarm system but mine used a very high voltage, thinking back now what I did was a bit on the dangerous side but thankfully for them (and me) the uninvited did not return, take care Sandy and once again best wishes to the XYL for a speedy recovery so she can make you your milky coffee on a Sunday morning! hi hi, best 73 de Geoff. G4AQZ.
Wishing Mandy a speedy recovery. Some wise words Sandy, always better to call the police than to tackle them yourself, especially as he say, they may be armed. Some good security improvements. Take care, buddy.
Sorry to hear Mrs. W.M. is unwell again. Condensation on the bikes is a bggr. I wonder, have you ever looked into those inflated ‘tents’ for storage. I have no idea if they solve the condensation problems.
All the very best Sandy, get as best you can your World in order then your youtube will followers will only wish you the best, super upate from your home, all the best to you and Mandy.
Hi Sandy, sorry to hear about your XYL. Hope she recovers soon and gets back on her feet keeping you on your toes. To be honest I’m not sure how wise it is talking about security even though I know you have more besides. All you can do is place as many obstacles in their way as you can to make their lives harder. A pity we are not allowed to connect things to the mains but that’s a completely different discussion. I’m a great believer in thick chains and big padlocks too, at my previous property I made a concrete base for a shed and buried a thick length of chain in the concrete and brought it up through the floor of the shed. I connected the same shed up to the burglar alarm of the house and fitted a extra loud siren in there with a cage around it. I have since moved QTH and had to start all over again. Sometimes new visible deterrents do the trick in your situation. Even something as simple as parking a vehicle up against the garage door so that is doesn’t open is a simple cost effective option too. I agree about not involving the police until you really have to and to be honest I think you already know this but other than a sympathetic ear they won’t be able to do a great deal. All you can do is protect your bikes against the condensation, it’s going to happen and without great expense you can’t fight nature. I use a substance called Lanoguard which seems very effective, it’s made from Lanolin from sheep’s fleeces. Don’t get too hung up on making RUclips content, sounds like you have enough on your plate. Best 73’s
Best wishes to Mandy, hope she is on the mend and home soon, yes that’s certainly a different video from you but priorities take over sometimes don’t they. Keep plodding on as they say and the chance for rides out and camps will return, and we are all looking forward to you filming them and sharing them with us. All the best from a very chilly Cheshire 👍🏻
Sandy I've recently had my garage in an attempt to steal my bikes. New door fitted courtesy of my insurers. Security now updated with both a Wi-Fi camera and the wise owl. I don't advertise my upgrades, hopefully won't happen again. Up and over doors are very secure, the best thing I use are chains and disc locks.
Best wishes to your wife, hope she makes a swift recovery., Bang on about condensation, the fix really is to stop the bikes/metal getting cold in the first place, tricky!

Good advice thank you. Mine are not that easy to get to but it hadnt occurred to me.

Wishing your wife a speedy recovery
Hi Sandy, sorry to hear about the Mrs, hope all goes well. Its a sad world when you need to go to such lengths to protect your own property. Im going back 60 years and there a series of garage break ins, people had a good idea who it was but Dad had two railway spanners around 3 foot long, he tied them together and put up a trip rope when the door was opened. Next day claret everywhere, then we saw the suspect with broken teeth, split lip and flat nose. Dad said hi Cyril been in a fight, yes was the reply. Take care.
Hahaaa I like that idea but could be frowned upon in this day n age:)
Best of luck with the thieves & Mandy!! Look after yourself Sandy as no one else will. 😊
Well done Sandy. Hope Mandy gets better soon.
Des
I'd love to get over there Des, Just have to see what the new year brings, dogs and family have to come first....in that order :)
This was 3 in the morning like yours, that was months ago now and they haven't been back and I feel safer now
bloody low life scum, doubtless never done a days work in their lives.
Nice one Sandy. All the best to you and Mandy .
hope Mandys ok and on mend too
air tags for tracking if you have a iphone.. also ip cameras will give you instant phone update with live pictures
Wishing you and Mandy well mate. Some good security tips there sandy.
Thanks for sharing
Enjoyed the garage chat Sandy. Got a few ideas about storing my bikes. I dont know how many years ago it was I subbed your channel but I've loved every video hopefully making the trip from New Zealand to your neck of the woods this year id love to buy you a beer.
If you get over here it would be great to meet you:)
Hope Mandy soon recovers I had blood clots in my lungs last year not nice was put on medication to break them down
I wouldn’t be showing the sercurty I have just make it difficult for the scum if they come back call 999 then they have a better chance of catching them thanks for sharing take care stay safe sending get well wishes to Mandy👍
Thank you Sandy, wishing Mandy well.
I hope everything works out for you Sandy , fingers crossed your wife improves and life treats you with respect which you deserve
Regards Mark Yates
Hi sandy hope your keeping well and your wife get better soon. All the best
Definitely worth beefing up any security in this day and age Bill, sorry to hear your wife has been unwell too
Hi Sandy, I’ve got my vstrom under a cover in my garage, I got a few of those disposable dehumidifiers from home bargains there less than a pound each and dotted them around the garage and one under the cover.
Phil I'm sorry to hear than news about your wife!!!
Feel for you both, stay safe and take care. Has been minus 9 C here in Argyll for a few days now, the wee dehumidifier and battery tenders have been keeping the bikes in good nick.
Minus 7 has been the coldest down here
Firstly, best wishes to your wife, I hope all works out ok. I empathise with your not having much time to travel, iv been a carer for my wife for many years so every moment I can get out is appreciated, but it’s not easy that’s for sure.
Yes I'm understanding that more and more
I hope your Missus is on the mend, prayers for her.
I think you'll find the owl sensors money well spent
Thanks Mark, Yes the police are our best option really
Sorry to hear about your wife sandy well done on beefing up your security hopefully it will help
Lets hope so Anthony, sofar so good:)
Thanks for your update Sandy I hope Mandy recovers soon🙏. It would be great to have another chat if your free during the week...Cheers K
I'd hold off coming here next week Keri we all have a nasty bug, maybe see you the week after perhaps?
@@WiltshireMan Ok thanks I'll send you a message
I hope your wife gets well. Don’t like burglars😮. Take care😊
I hope a quick recovery for Mandy and that she's gonna be home soon. You did a good job preventing people to break in, I guess. Atb Sandy
Hope Mandy gets well soon Sandy. All the best to both of you.
I hope Mandy gets better soon
Wishing Mandy a speedy recovery! Wow, that is pretty cold for England.
Best wishes to your wife, hope she makes a swift recovery., Bang on about condensation, the fix really is to stop the bikes/metal getting cold in the first place, tricky!
Get well soon Mandy
