My first-ever final with Hibs - pissing down with rain which turned the ash that weegies love into a swamp but I wasn't giving one ounce of **** !. 9 yearx-old with my dad, uncles, cousins etc - it still ranks as one of the finest days in my life !
As a die hard Celtic fan that Hibs team was fantastic . Bear in mind we were one of the top 5 or so sides in Europe at that time had not long unluckily lost to Inter in EC semi and would go on to another EC semi a year later so to beat us was a great achievement. Pat Stanton was one of the best players in British football at that time, I believe Stein tried to sign him a few times before we finally got him .We had a fantastic team as well, Connelly, Dalglish,Hay, Jinky, Macari, and Hibs with O’Rourke,Blackly,Cropley, Gordon ,Stanton .Scottish football was in a great place then. If Celtic had not been so good that Hibs team would have won a couple of Titles. Great memories loved that era
Still amazes me that Hibs were never deep deep into Europe or any of the clubs in Scotland at the time didn't go on to be trophy laden on the continent with the skill they possessed, same really goes for the national side. Europe had avoided a proper chibbin by us lot, we only managed 4 European trophies. A real head scratcher, especially when you look at the likes of the Hibs playing like that against a Celtic that were pretty much a certain in European semi finals each year. Astonishing.
I was there great seeing the Battle of the Greens with both teams wearing their Proper strips. Although we lost it was a cracking game with Hibs having so many good player , Stanton outstanding. It must make any Hibs fan sad to see how far they have fallen.
Some fantastic players on both sides, but none better than Pat Stanton, had the pleasure of seeing him in the hoops in the last year of his career. Wish we'd got him ten years earlier.
Was at this and 3 other losing league cup finals in the early 70s lost to rangers thistle hibs and dundee but i also seen us beat dundee in 68 hibs 69 and st johnstone 69 70
Yeah they did that day I was there the league Cup was up and down for celtic I was at 3 in a row in the late 60s then seen us lose 4 in a row in the early 70s including the thistle demolition but celts got the famous one in my eyes 7 1 v rangers my da and uncle were there that will never. Be beat
Hibs aren't wearing hoops, not a kit clash. Haha Solid bottle green with white sleeves v blatant lighter green and white hoops. Surely on a black and white tv and from distance Arsenal would make a clash too then. 🤔
Excellent footage ! good to see Jimmy's goal again- what a player !

If a team in the world cup scored a goal like Paddy did, from that well worked free kick, we'd all be raving about it.

Both teams in green! Colour clash surely?
Back in the days when people weren't treated like muppets and could disseminate solid green from bloody blatant solid green and white hoops. 😀
